Antique Primitive Farm Splint Wood Basket-2 Layers Old Green Paint
Up for auction is an antique. Primitive, wood splint farm basket. Excluding the handle, the basket measures 6 inches high, 13 1/2 inches wide, and 9 inches long. It has two old layers of green paint. You can see this best in photo#5. All of the photo's show some paint loss. If you look closely at photo's#6-10, you'll see that there's wire that's wrapped around the handle and through the center of the basket. I'm guessing that this was done for reinforcement. Old Early Primitive Miniature 3 1/4" Splint Oak Buttock Basket Blue Stripes
This is a recent purchase from a local estate. A wonderful miniature split oak buttock basket 3 1/4" This is an early 20th century piece. This piece was purchased over 80 years ago from a woman's estate in Manitou Springs. Colorado. This sweet little basket is 3 1/4" in width, 3" in height and 3 1/4" across. The center opening is approx. 2 3/4" It has 14 ribs, 1/16" split wood and 5/16" wide handle. It has 2 blue 1/2" stripes one on each side. It is in great structural condition with a beautiful patina. There are a couple broken splits, see all photos. It's a wonderful example and would make a great addition to any collection. Over all in very good condition for it's age. Large 20" Primitive Southern Round Oak Splint Basket, Wood Handle
This is a beautiful old basket. It's hickory or oak. The overall basket is round or oval with a diameter that goes from about 20 inches to 19 inches. Big. The height to the top of the handle is 20 inches. It's slightly out of round which is normal for handwoven baskets. The amazing thing to me is to have a basket this large with no breaks or holes poked through the edges. It did survive a fire in its' Madison Georgia home sometime in the last 10 or 12 years. The inside bottom has some dust and soot but I don't see any charring. You can see clear areas where something laying in the bottom protected a couple of places from the soot. Good News! I gave it a warm soapy shower this morning with a hard spray rinse. So you don't have to. It's much cleaner and it looks like at least half of the soot washed away. Still no charring. ... moreThe 5th. 6th and last pictures are after the warm shower and the basket has had time to mostly dry. All the other pix are before washing. You can see that the first interior basket shot looks cleaner than the next interior shot. That's becasue it is cleaner. Pixs 1 thru 4 show four sides, so you don't miss anything. The next to last picture is the outside bottom. Madison is one of the few towns in General Sherman's march through Georgia that he decided not to burn near the end of the Civil War. It's a beautiful town loaded with history. This basket doesn't look that old to me. But it doesn't lack in southern charm. For the non-basket person. An occasional shower does more than clean. It helps to replace natural moisture that heating systems and time pulls out. Getting too dry can make baskets brittle earlier. The auctioneer said the town of Madison would not approve the home owners' preferred plan for rebuilding. So they chose to not do anything and sell off all the contents. Old 1/2 bushel harvesting basket- it looks the same as a bushel basket used for picking cotton in the South. In a 1/2 bushel version. It seems this style of basket is becoming more rare- especially in good condition. It is in great condition considering its age- there are no holes, nothing broken, and is not brittle. It is out of round a bit and doesn't sit quite flat. That can be corrected though by washing it in warm soapy water and weighting the bottom down flat while it dries. I have not washed it. In the photos there was something white on the handle- I did wipe that off. Primitive antique country farm splint wood flower? picking hand basket
This is a basket that came from my mother's barn. I think it would be considered a flower picking basket. I really don't know how old it is. It measures about 11" x 7" x 10 1/2" The splints appear to be in pretty good condition. Please see the pictures. Thanks for looking and please let me know if you need more pictures or have questions.

Primitive Vintage Deco Wood Square Splint American Made Match Store Display Box A 26 years long time antique dealer in this area is closing her doors for good. And I actually spent two days picking this weekend through her stuff. She specialized in very old primitives, but I was able to grab a little bit for everyone– I have some fabulous advertising, industrial, retro, deco, lots of store displays and apothecary too– you don’t want to miss this week! Here's a neat old deco era country store countertop display piece. It's a qood box that once held boxes of"Square Spling American Made Safety Matches. as what it says on the front and both sides. The box is in excellent solid and sturdy condition- with dovetailed joints, it is totally sound. You can see that it used to have a partition wall on the inside of the box that is now missing- ... morethere's a divot in the wood where it used to be and you can see it in a close up in photo 12- it runs the length of the inside of the box. The patina is rustic and primitive- with looooots of wear to the black paint in spots down to the wood(more on the edges and corners than anywhere) and you can see that the original blue and red colored print is very worn. See the front where it's scratched there and down to the wood. I would have had a hard time making it out except for the fact that the lettering on the sides(not the front) is in relief. On the sides, the paint that once was on the letters is mostly gone, but you can read what it said because the letter still remain- in black, which was under the blue and red paint. Also, in photo 4 you can see what looks like a very dark worn gold floral decal at the top of the box. I don't believe that is original, just because I can see peeks of red underneath it, so I'm guessing that was put on top of the original advertising- it's hard to tell for sure- see what you think. Even if not original, the decal is old, and it's so worn, you have to look close to make out that it's flowers and leaves. The ins

The Antique Wall Hanging Basket is heavily painted with mustard yellow paint that has crackled with age. Handle is 3/4" wide and is meant for hanging upon the wall. I believe this basket is circa 1800s. This Hanging Basket has a Bulbous Half Shaped Body. The Antique Woven Wall Hanging Basket has a Flat Woven Back for resting flat to the wall surface. This is a hard to find shape. There is a break on a cane on the corner that I have taken a closeup of. I am not an expert on this type of item so the information is based on what I have been advised.
