It's made of pine staves and has three iron bands ... morethat keep it tight and secure. We found it in an old barn where it had been forgotten for generations and it's untouched and just as it was when we discovered it. It shows lots of age and wear and has a fabulous, weathered look. Best of all, this churn has original, old blue paint, making it a very desirable piece for those who furnish their homes with as-found, country antiques. Once a common household fixture, it's now a primitive relic that has tremendous decorative appeal. The dasher stick appears to have been made from a tree branch while the churn itself is constructed much like a barrel. Even the splash cover looks to have been made by hand. As for size. This butter churn stands about 34 1/2 inches tall including the stick and about 19 3/4 inches tall without it. Not including the cover, the top of the churn has a 6 3/4 inch diameter while the bottom has a diameter of 8 1/4 inches. Solid, rugged, and sound, it weighs nearly 10 pounds. The wood is in very good shape and is free of woodworms, termites and dry rot. Still dusty from the barn, it just needs to be wiped down with a wet cloth. It's one of our nicest"barn finds" in quite some time! Country antiques in old blue paint are scarce and are good investments! Wouldn't this churn look wonderful in your home? Here's a great-looking. All original antique butter churn up for bids without reserve! Right out of an old barn, it's absolutely untouched and just as we found it. The surface is dry and worn with fabulously weathered green paint. This churn is beautifully aged and nothing has been applied to enhance its appearance. It's made of pine staves and has two iron bands that keep it tight and secure. It has a folksy-looking, fitted cover that kept the cream from splashing out during the churning process. Including the dasher, this churn stands about 41 3/4 inches high, but without the dasher it measures about 21 3/4 inches tall. The top, not including the cover, measures 7 1/2 inches in diameter and widening out to 8 1/2 inches at the bottom. Found in an estate outside of Tulsa. Oklahoma, is this handsome, antique, one pound, rectangular, butter mold. Measuring 5 1/2" long X 3 1/2" tall X 3" wide. Nice dovetail joints with tiny finishing nails joining the top and bottom. The plunger handle appears to be original(4" but I think the plunger has been replaced and it has glue and a staple through both plunger and handle. Antique Country Primitive Wooden Butter Churn; 19th Century Staved Pine Churner
Wouldn't this 19th Century wooden butter churn make a great Valentines Day gift for the antique lover in your life? It's made of pine staves and has three iron bands that keep it tight and secure. Recently found hidden away in an attic. It has a beautiful, old patina with a rich coloring and nice graining. It hasn't been sanded or refinished, the aged surface and signs of wear are what make this piece look as nice as it does. Complete with splash cover and dasher. This old butter churn was once an essential part of a household, nearly everybody had one back in 1800s and early 1900s. Once fresh butter could be purchased reasonably at shops, butter churns went by the wayside much like typewriters have since computers took over. This churn is in very good shape and is still strong. Tight, and rugged. There are no problems with woodworms, ... moretermites, or dry rot. It measures 38 3/4 inches including the dasher stick and about 22 inches tall without it. The diameter at the top is about 7 inches and it widens out to 9 1/2 inches at the bottom. It spent decades stored away and is ready to begin a new life as a decorative piece your home! It would look super on display in a kitchen, on a fireplace hearth, in a cottage or cabin, or just placed in a corner in any room in need of a little country charm! Rare Antique 1840 Primitive Wooden Butter Churn BOSTON & WORCESTER MASS
The manufacturer of this churn from the Boston area was Ruggles. Nourse, Mason& Company. They were based in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts. This company started out as J. Nourse& Company in 1835. Sometime in the 1840's the partners changed and it became Ruggles, Nourse, Mason& Company. They were best known for manufacturing plows. In 1860 the company was purchased by the Ames Plow Company, dating this to between 1840 and 1860. The actual churning vessel is made of tin. The wood frame supports the tin and is held together by square cut nails. One of the first things you notice on this churn is the real mercury thermometer mounted on the front of the churn and that there is a drain hole on each end. However only one of the drains is open to the cream tub. On closer inspection one realizes that there is a double tin wall ... moreto form a jacket around the cream tub so that warm or cold water could be added to raise or lower the temperature of the cream. The second drain hole drained this water jacket. One of the biggest variables in butter making is the temperature that the cream is churned at. The maker of this butter churn obviously understood that and accounted for it in his design. For this churn the ideal temperature was marked at 62 degrees. In the early to mid 1800's there was a lot of superstition about churning. Many times the cream would not form butter no matter how long one churned it. Many people felt that this was because the cream was haunted by a witch. Many people that churned butter believed in the"cream witch" and many churn advertisements referred to it. A couple of the remedies for a cream witch was to put a red hot horse shoe or a red hot poker into the cream. The cream would boil as the hot metal was put in the churn and people said this was the noise of the witch thrashing about as she was killed. Up for bids we offer this very nice. 19th Century, wooden butter churn in very good condition. It's a primitive, one-piece churn, made from a log and reenforced with three iron bands. It has a great, old patina with rich color, nice graining, and generations of ground-in grunge! Complete with dasher and cover, it stands about 37 3/4 inches high; without the dasher the churn stands about 23 inches tall. At the top it has a 6 1/2 inch diameter while the bottom measures about 7 inches across. Well-preserved, this old churn is solid, sound, and, tight. There are no problems from dry rot or active woodworm or termite infestation. The splash cover looks to have had a repair but it's rugged and fits well. It's an early piece that will add loads of country charm and character to whatever setting it's placed in. Antique Country Primitive Staved Wooden Butter Churn, 39 1/2" Old Barn Find!
Up for bids is a recently found. Antique wooden butter churn in very good antique condition! It has 4 bands and 1 wire band that keep it tight and secure. Showing age and wear, the patina is beautiful with rich coloring and nice graining. The dasher stick was made from a tree branch and isn't perfectly straight which add some charm. Also included is the fitted cover which kept the cream from splashing out during the churning process. This old churn is rather tall and sturdy. With the dasher it stands 39 1/2 inches tall, but without it, the barrel portion is only 19 inches high. Excluding the cover, the top of the churn has a 7 1/2 inch diameter and then it widens out to 10 1/2 inches at the bottom. It's very well-preserved still very sound and rugged too. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE WOODEN WOOD STAVED BUTTER CHURN WITH LID. PLUNGER AND METAL BANDS! Up for sale is this wonderful. Old, skinny or tall antique primitive hand-made wooden butter churn. It has it's original metal bands, lid and plunger. It is on the medium to large size measuring in at 19.5" tall(without plunger) 28.5" with the stick x 4.75" in diameter. It weighs 2.5 lbs. It is a medium brown color throughout. The metal bands are tight but look like they have moved from their original places. A small round nail now holds the metal bands tight and there is no movement of the staves. This butter churn is pretty unusual- rarely do you see them this small in diameter or skinny! There are some rough spots or spots where the stain or wood has come off, a few old worm holes, edge wear, nicks, scrapes, chips, discoloration. All ... morewhat you would see from a true antique! This butter churn has nice hand forged metal bands and they are tight! Please note that photos are a part of our description. Please ask lots of questions if needed. This butter churn was imported from Eastern Europe. There are very few worm holes in this churn as you can see in the pictures. This is normal and there isn't evidence that they are active. From one side to the other it measures 9 1/4" and the other side to side measurement is 8 1/2" It is 2" high/deep. Lots and lots of chopping/cut marks in the center and they give it a wonderful look. You can tell that this bowl was well used and loved. It has a gorgeous patina and is marked on the bottom MUNISING. Antique Primitive Staved Wooden Butter Churn, As Found 1800s Barn Find old paint
If you like untouched county antiques with rich. Original surfaces, check out this very nice old butter churn we found in an old barn! It had been stashed away for decades and is still dusty but it's very well-preserved. It has very worn old paint with a patina that's 100 percent original, nothing has been applied anything to enhance its appearance. As the photos show, it has lots of age and wear, giving it an awesome, early appearance. Included is its original, carved splash cover with a folksy looking handle, as well as the dasher stick. This butter churn is 36 1/2 inches tall including the dasher and 21 1/2 inches without it. At the top. It has a 7 3/4 inch diameter and then it widens out to 9 inches at the bottom. Up for sale is a Wonderful Primitive Butter Churn from the late 1700's or early 1800's. Looks like one of the bands might have been replaced at one time. Everything else is original to the piece. Looks like it has been well taken care of. Measures approx. 24 1/2 inches high including the handle. The dasher measures approx. 28 1/4 inches high. Nice old piece
