This large detailed map of Western Germany. Map itself is copyrighted 1901. But came from a 1904 edition of the Rand McNally Indexed Atlas of the Dominion of Canada from 1904. It measures 28 X 20 inches. Would look fantastic framed under glass. Shadows seen are my scanner. Not the map. According to worldcat.org. None of these atlases are in the major reference collections, but this map can be seen in other enlarged indexed Atlases that McNally published during this time frame. What makes this map unique, is that these maps were printed on a high grade of slicker looking paper, with a shine, rather than the cheaper dull paper of a regular Indexed atlas. This in turn changes the hand colored lithographic colors, darker, brighter and outstanding to look upon. The maps we have for sale are quite dear. Bartholomews Quarter Inch Map Number 5- Killarney& Cork. This historic map is one of a set of 7"Maps of Ireland" The scale is a Quarter Inch to 1 mile and is mounted on cloth. It includes a neat inset map of Killarney at Half a mile to 1 Inch. The map is in good condition with the exception of a 6cm tear on one fold(see top left corner of photo) and very minor holes at some fold joints. The cover is clean. Except for a previous owners name"B Myers" The rear cover shows the map was originally sold by"Underhill(Plymouth) Ltd. Booksellers and Stationers, Plymouth" This shop was destroyed by bombing in 1941 and, although the map is undated and only shows the number"1531" in the lower left hand corner, it is estimated that the map was published circa 1930/1940.

The margins are clean and range form 0.5" to 0.8" 1-2 cm) on all sides. These maps were all'tipped in' to the atlas. Which means they can easily be removed as a single sheet with a fold in the centre. Condition Very good. The colors are bright and fresh. The maps themselves. And the margins, are very clean. There are no tears, stains, discolorations or soiling whatsoever. The atlas from which these maps were removed did NOT spend its life at a public library. It was part of ... morea private collection and was treated very well. Remarks The publication of the Times Survey Atlas in 1922 was the culmination of six years of painstaking work and. With the combination of political and the physical colour range from dark green to dark brown to indicate elevation, it marked the beginning of the age of'modern cartography. It surpassed any atlas before it in terms of scope(112 double-page folio map) and accuracy. Many of the maps published in this atlas were used in other atlases in many countries as recently as the 1970s. These maps will look great framed and hung individually or, on a large wall, in groups. Vintage map of Ireland. Original cost 1 shilling. Issued by Bord Failte Eireann. Revised 1957. Shows all the counties and provinces of Ireland(north and south) and air and sea routes in those days. Scale 12 miles to an inch. Also shows the'approved' roads for travel between north and south with warnings of severe penalties should you try to cross the border on an unapproved road. With index. In pretty good condition for its age- a couple of small splits but nothing missing. 55 years old. I'm happy to post worldwide. I only charge postage at actual cost.
