Bacon. F.R.G.S. Publisher London: G.W. Bacon& Co. Limited, 127 Strand. 1893. The maps for sale here are all at least 115 years old. I removed them from the damaged atlas myself. Size/ Format In millimeters(and inches) Sheet: 540 x 345(21 x 13½) Map: 480 X 300(18¾ x 11¾) These maps were all'tipped in' to the atlas. Meaning that they could be removed as a single intact sheet. There is a fold in the centre of each map. The maps are lithographs on heavy paper. The colors and still bright and fresh. The margins are generous. Condition The overall condition of the maps is very good/ excellent. There is the occasional spot in the margins of a few of the maps. And the occasional minor tear(always completely confined to the margins) has been professionally repaired. The photos included in the listings are of the actual maps you will receive, Remarks This atlas is relatively scarce. I was only able to find three rather pricey examples available online. A fourth is in the custody of the UK National Archives. Many of the maps that appeared in this atlas were originally published by Bacon in the 1860s as the highly sought after Weekly Dispatch series of maps. These maps are unusually rectangular with a length to width ratio of 1: 1.56. Which was, and is, unusual. The double maps are somewhat longer or'taller' than usual when vertical, and somewhat longer'wider' than usual when horizontal. This Commercial and Library Atlas offers a refreshing change from Bartholomew's widely adopted treatment of the world's geography with pleasant surprises like Tasmania occupying a full double page ma

An attractive map on heavy paper. Published in the International Atlas and Geography. A nice feature of this atlas is that the maps were individually bound along their long edge. Resulting in large maps without a centrefold. This map measures approx 30cm x 40cm excluding margins. Condition is very good. A strong impression that remains clean and bright with attractive printed colour. One or two specks and marks but very minor. The margins are lightly toned and the left margin is creased and a bit raggedy where originally bound. Verso completely blank and clean; a few foxing spots. This graphic illustration is one of an entire collection of 100 Antique Maps- German and American- that I am listing for auction. Each of these maps are original and in excellent condition; very suitable for framing. The island of Ireland is located in the north-west of Europe. Between latitudes 51° and 56° N. And longitudes 11° and 5° W. It is separated from the neighbouring island of Great Britain by the Irish Sea and the North Channel. Which has a width of 23 kilometres(14 mi) 87] at ... moreits narrowest point. To the west is the northern Atlantic Ocean and to the south is the Celtic Sea. Which lies between Ireland and Brittany. The title is displayed in a decorative cartouche(see close up scan below)and a scale of miles is also featured in a separate cartouche supported by a pair of putti. A royal crest adds to the visual appeal. Enhanced with attractive later hand colour. Professionally applied to the original pattern. Scarce blank verso edition therefore devoid of the bleedthrough of text which is often seen. A handsome map and about as good as they come. A crisp. Dark impression in fine condition, other than a couple of tiny spots, free of repairs or restoration. The original centre fold is light and unobtrusive. Atlas Novus" which eventually ran to 12 volumes and was published in several languages from 1635- 1662. Meaning that they could be removed as a single intact sheet. The maps have a single fold in the center. This is the first Stieler Atlas to have been printed using the lithographic method. The colors are strong and vibrant. These maps are printed on ONE SIDE ONLY. Note: These maps are from a German Atlas. Geographical names and any text are. Naturally, in German. Condition Very Good. Large Antique 1893 Bacon's Folio Map of IRELAND Central
A fine original 19th century antique map from G.W. Bacon. This listing: Ireland(Central) Provenance Commercial and Library Atlas of the World. Containing one hundred inset maps. Including all the latest discoveries, Extensive letterpress descriptions, Alphabetical index, Populations from the latest censuses, Gazetteer of 2,000 principal towns, Statistical diagrams and tables, etc. Edited by G.W. Bacon. F.R.G.S. Publisher London: G.W. Bacon& Co. Limited, 127 Strand. 1893. The maps for sale here are all at least 115 years old. I removed them from the damaged atlas myself. Size/ Format In millimeters(and inches) Sheet: 540 x 345(21 x 13½) Map: 480 X 300(18¾ x 11¾) These maps were all'tipped in' to the atlas. Meaning that they could be removed as a single intact sheet. There is a fold in the centre of each map. The ... moremaps are lithographs on heavy paper. The colors and still bright and fresh. The margins are generous. Condition The overall condition of the maps is very good/ excellent. There is the occasional spot in the margins of a few of the maps. And the occasional minor tear(always completely confined to the margins) has been professionally repaired. The photos included in the listings are of the actual maps you will receive, Remarks This atlas is relatively scarce. I was only able to find three rather pricey examples available online. A fourth is in the custody of the UK National Archives. Many of the maps that appeared in this atlas were originally published by Bacon in the 1860s as the highly sought after Weekly Dispatch series of maps. These maps are unusually rectangular with a length to width ratio of 1: 1.56. Which was, and is, unusual. The double maps are somewhat longer or'taller' than usual when vertical, and somewhat longer'wider' than usual when horizontal. This Commercial and Library Atlas offers a refreshing change from Bartholomew's widely adopted treatment of the world's geography with pleasant surprises like Tasmania occupying a full double page ma
