New Granada, Equador, and The Guayanas" published circa 1851 by the noted English cartographer John Tallis(1815-1876) Though not specifically dated. It is easy to date the print- John Tallis& Company" was in business by that name only from 1851-1854. And, New Granada ceased to exist after 1858- the region being renamed in that year after a series of political squabbles, eventually becoming the present day nations of Columbia and Panama, among others. The print itself is beautifully detailed with small vignettes of landscapes found in the region depicted. Including the Port of Paramaribo(at the time in Dutch Guayana) the"Fall ... moreof the Bagota" and"Chimborazo" The map is signed"John Tallis& Company. London& New York" The Illustrations by H. But given its 160+ age, there is some very minor foxing and from the slight unevenness of the right edge, it may have once been trimmed. There is also a crease in the center of the map. But I think this was once part of a larger atlas. The coloring is a bit faded. But that also befits its age. The map remains sealed in its frame under cardboard. While I have not removed this map from the frame. My feeling is that it is an original antique hand-coloured map dating to the latter part of the 18th century. It is entitled"A Map Of Dumbrittonshire Drawn From The Beft Authorities By T Kitchin" Not only is the spelling of the Scottish county of Dunbartonshire interesting, but I also noted that the town of Helensburgh did not exist then with its forbear"Caple" taking its place. It was also interesting to note the marking of"Severen's Wall" There is a faint, old crease down the centre of the map, but otherwise, it is in very good condition. The hand colored map is in good condition for its age with some edge loss at the botttom left edge and some overall light age yellowing. It has been backed with acid free black matte board and measures about 14 by 22 inches, overall. The frame includes its glass and MDF backing. It measures 19 1/4 by 27 1/4 inches, overall and will accomodate a 16 by 24 inch picture. The new frame is in good solid condition. The map retains its vibrant colors. FRAMED PRINT ANTIQUE MAP COUNTY OF LANCASHIRE FROM 1800s LIVERPOOL MANCHESTER
Up for auction here we have an old map of Lancashire. It is a print of how the County looked in the 1800s. Circa 1860. It therefore shows Manchester, Liverpool and parts which are now classed as Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. The boarder of the map illustrates the coats of arms of some notable Towns and Cities of the time e.g. Liverpool. Manchester and Preston. There is also an illustration of the Nelson monument in Liverpool and references to the Hundreds of Armounderness, Blackburn, Leyland, Lonsdale, Salford and West Derby. This is a wonderful old map. It is framed behind glass in a frame which measures 21 inches by 17 inches in size. The frame shows some minor scuffs and scratches which could be covered up with some wood dye or coloured wax but I think it adds to the period charm of the piece. ANTIQUE c. 18th c. HAND COLORED MAP SOUTH WALES WALLIE PARS AUSTRALIS FRAMED
This framed and glassed very early map of South Wales looks like something from the 17th or 18th Century but I could not find a date. The frame is 25 1/4" X 21 1/4" but the map itself is approx. 18 1/2" X 22 1/2" There are some moisture stains in the margins and some foxing on the map. But overall it is in quite nice condition. Map is nicely hand colored with many children, mermaid, old bearded man, fish, as well mountains, forests, and some red dots on various castles, as well as some nice depictions of sailing vessels. I do not know how accurate the map is, but artistically it is very nice. The framing job is more recent then the map, but it is intact and certainly helps preserver the map. We are a smoke free home.
