VINTAGE BRITISH ADMIRALTY NAUTICAL CHART MAP IRELAND WEST COAST circa 1862/1946
This unusually large and beautiful vintage British Admiralty nautical chart is titled. WEST COAST OF IRELAND. Publication information: London. Published at the Admiralty, 1862. Small corrections to 1946. Chart# 1824B Dimensions: 28" X 53" 71cm X 135cm) Chart shows the entire West coast of Ireland from County Waterford northward to County Donegal. This chart is in pristine condition. It has never been used. It is spotless. Smooth, and crisp. Highly detailed engraving. A rare specimen. Please look at all 12 photos carefully, as most details, information, and flaws are visible in them. I am happy to answer any questions. International buyers, please read shipping information on the eBay invoice carefully before you select shipping method. NOTE: British Admiralty charts of this vintage are not only rare but extremely difficult to find ... morein such excellent condition as this one. Many of the charts in my collection have never actually been used and so are very clean. They were printed on heavy. Good quality cream-colored paper, folded neatly in half, and stored on board ships in heavy canvas folios. These are not copies or scans or reproductions. They are original charts created by the British Admiralty. The craft of the19th century British Admiralty charts was particularly beautiful and well-detailed. They are. In every sense, works of art. Compare them to modern nautical charts. Which give very little land detail, and you'll see the difference. Vintage 1977 UK Nautical Chart - Belfast, N. Ireland & Mull of Kintyre, Scotland
Measuring about 31" x 45" This is US Defense Mapping Agency Hydrographic Center Nautical Chart No. 35299, titled"Scotland- West Coast- Approaches to the Firth of Clyde. Sure enough, the coastline of Northern Ireland is at the lower left, from Belfast all the way around to the Giants' Causeway, with several Scottish islands- including Islay, Jura and part of Mull- at the upper left. in the center are the Island of Arran and the Kintyre Peninsula, with the Mull of Kintyre- subject of a song by Paul McCartney of the Beatles- just a few miles from the tip of Northern Ireland. And the Firth of Clyde and Scottish mainland run down the right side, including Loch Lomond, Dumbarton, Greenock, Troon, Ayr and Stranraer. It is dated 1977 and stated to be the Third Edition. The scale is 1:200,000. It is in generally very good and usable ... morecondition. With some light surface and edge wear and creasing, and maybe a mis-fold or two, and it may also have some ink and/or crayon inscriptions on the back, some of which may have bled through, and perhaps also some notations or corrections on the map itself. This came from the collection of an Esso tanker captain, who had the habit of writing at least the chart title and/or number in bold lettering on the back, sometimes also with other notes or reference numbers. It has been stored folded, but will probably be shipped rolled in a tube. International Buyers– Please Note: Import duties. Taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost.
