1978 ART GLASS TANKARD - LINDEAN MILL SCOTLAND
This is a studio glass tankard. Dated 1978 and made at the Lindean Mill studio in Galashiels, Scotland. This Scottish glass studio only came into being in 1978 so this is one of the first pieces to be produced. The glass is clear with a green lustre and has a beautiful curved form with an overly pronounced handle. A really superb Art Nouveau style ORTAK designer pendant and chain- and in perfect condition. This superb piece of Ortak is an early vintage 1960's piece made at the outset of the company. The pendant displays a beautiful flowing buds design with an added bud drop. The pendant is crafted from sterling silver but there is no hallmark. The pendant measures a large 3 and 1/8" long- weighs 16.9 gms- is marked ORTAK SCOTLAND on the back- the chain is a strong snake link chain marked 925 ITALY at both ends- weighs a heavy 17.5 gms with a secure trigger catch[ combined weight 34.4 gms] very collectable. Early Ortak at it's very best.

1986 The First Issue GB Two Pounds Coin Commemorating 13th Commonwealth Games In Scotland I'm offering this uncirculated Elizabeth II two pound coin in shiny nickel-brass at a low start with no reserve. It is 28.4mm in diameter and weighs just under 16g. It was a very memorable design for the first decimal £2 denomination coins struck in the UK. Initially intended purely as a commemorative issue for the 13th Commonwealth Games held in Scotland that year. The whole of the reverse was taken up with a large thistle on the St Andrew cross, the embodiment of Scotland. They were also declared legal tender and the British public, myself included, weren't sure whether to present them in payment for goods or not. On the whole we thought not, I seem to remember, with the result that larger numbers were hoarded rather than circulated. There ... morewere only about 8 million struck in total which meant that a shortage was instantly created which persists to this day. The obverse was the third portrait of Elizabeth II used on British coins and was by Ian Rank-Broadley. The edge was inscribed with the legend XIII COMMONWEALTH GAMES SCOTLAND 1986. Thus creating a British double-dated coin, as far as I know for the first and only time. Contrary to popular belief, the inscription appears both ways up in equal numbers. This is because the edge inscription was stamped before the coin's faces were struck. The edge is also milled. There are some bag marks on this uncirculated example. Pretty much par for the course on these unless you have a boxed one. Still this means if you need one for your collection. This one won't be to everyone's taste and it should sell for less. To be honest, in the right light you hardly notice the marks, because the unworn surfaces are particularly shiny, and the design details of the coin are so good. Rare! c.1712 Homann Map of Scotland!
Up for auction is a rare map of Scotland c.1712 made by Johann Baptist Homann(1664-1724) This map predates the transfer of his firm to his sons in 1731(at which point the maps were printed with Homann Heirs or Latin equivalents of that instead of just his name) Map is in good condition for its age. As you can see. The peripheral has seen better days, but the map itself is unaffected by this. There are some folds and creases here and there, but it remains flat. There are also some small stains present, but nothing too detracting. There is a stain across the center from the strip on the back where it was originally adhered to an atlas, but this is common. The colors didn't show up very well in my photos, and it is bolder and brighter than what you see! Overall a great piece of cartographic history!
