They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Offered for sale in GVF condition and previously sold in this authenticated condition by auction house DNW in 1999 is this historically significant and highly collectable 2 clasp General Service Medal to 24080664 Pte P Wakefield. Queens Own Buffs. The clasps are Borneo and Northern Ireland. The Queens Own Buffs was formed on 1st March 1961 from the amalgamation of The Buffs and The Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment and existed for a little under 6 years before becoming 2nd Battalion. The Queens Regiment on 31st December 1966. Pte Wakefield has an enlistment number circa to early 1966 and joined his Battalion shortly before they deployed to Borneo from Hong Kong between May and September 1966. Becoming one of the very last Infantry Battalions to deploy during the Borneo campaign. For operations in Borneo, Pte Wakefield and the rest of the ... moreBattalion was subsequently awarded the GSM 1962 with Borneo clasp. This was the only GSM clasp awarded to this Regiment before becoming 2 Queens. In June of 1968. 2 Queens relocated to Palace Barracks, Holywood on a residential(garrison) tour and it was from here that the Battalion, in conjunction with 1 RRW, became the first Infantry Battalion to deploy onto the streets of Belfast(Falls Road and Shankill Road interface) on 15th August 1969 at the very start of the Northern Ireland troubles, a campaign that was to run for the next 38 years before finally ending in July 2007. Offered for sale in good/very fine condition and with no obvious signs of wear to the rim or dinks and dents is this historically significant 2 clasp South Arabia and Northern Ireland General Service Medal 1962- 2007 to 23967598 Pte S N Heath PWO(Prince of Wales Own) With an enlistment date in 1964. Pte Heath was serving with his Regiment as it undertook two tours of duty in Aden from August 1965 until September 1966 and again from June to October 1967, being one of the last army Battalions to serve in the troubled Protectorate. For these tours he was awarded the GSM1962 with South Arabia clasp. Following the gradual breakdown of law and order in Northern Ireland. The Battalion were deployed on 26th April 1969 in advance of the official army deployment, where it undertook key point guard duties until the summer of 1969, when following the ... moreso called Battle of the Bogside, the Northern Ireland government called for Army support. On 14th August 1969. 1st Battalion, The Prince of Wales Own became the very first troops to deploy onto the streets of Northern Ireland. Being marched into Derry/Londonderry at the start of The Troubles in a campaign that ran from 1969 to 2007. The Battalion withdrew on 19th August 1969 before returning for their second tour between May 1972 and November 1973, based at Palace Barracks, Holywood on the outskirts of Belfast, during which time the men qualified for the issue for the Northern Ireland clasp during this tour as Province Reserve) The GSM 1962-2007 to the Prince of Wales Own are not particularly common and two clasp medals.
