Tenor (Irish) banjo vintage c1906 Dulcetta London
This banjo is at least 100 years old or more. It is very loud. The vellum has been replaced by a modern remo head. This instrument lived for many years at a village pub called The Plough at Allerthorpe near York and during World War 2 was played by many RAF Halifax bomber crews from local airfields including Pocklington, Melbourne, Elvington, Full Sutton among others, bet it could tell some stories. It is open backed, you can Google details of the model. The drum part is wood covered by nickel coated brass which is very worn, the tailpiece, although ill contrived, is well suited to its purpose. Most of the parts are original apart from the vellum(skin) bridge, and tailpiece. The strings are also new. It is structurally 100% sound. The neck is adjustable and the action is good. I have tuned it to the top end of guitar G D B E, can't face ... morelearning all those mad chords. So I would like it to go to a caring musician who can play it properly. There is a period case with it also, in fair condition. The drum diameter is 11" the total length is 29" It is indeed very loud. The finger board is rosewood with pearloid dot inlays, the headstock is either rosewood or ebony. There is a small motif on the headstock and also on the wooden strut in the drum which is a triangle with a striker and the initials BS. Barnett and Samuel were taken over by John Gray in 1911. There also is a serial number on the lower part of the headstock, 17113. There are some spare strings and a plectorium with it. If the buyer requests, I will remove the neck which would be prudent for safer transportation, but let me know. Lovely old instrument.

1769 Non Regal Irish Halfpenny. Mule. George II Obverse with a George III Reverse. High Rarity-6 or so. 89.8 grains. Very Fine, some reverse details just a bit weaker than that grade, though most are sharp. The obverse legend is full, the individual letters strong, the left-facing bust fully outlined, with some finer detail showing; the ribbon ends are long, the upper one pointing just after the dot following REX(there are two, possibly three, very similar obverses, the position of the ribbon ends being the obvious difference between them) The reverse legend is full, the date strong, the 6 and the 9 made from the same punch, just inverted. The harp is fully outlined around the frame, the center weak, not showing much of the harpstrings within. Cleaned in the past, now a pinkish hue, though this should tone down over time and look far more ... morenatural when it does. No major marks or damage, the surfaces with a little light roughness, but still with decent enough eye appeal. While 1769 is the most available date of mules for the counterfeit Irish halfpenny series, they are still not encountered with frequency, and individual varieties are often quite rare. This particular example is from the collection of Byron Weston, who wrote one of the first serious articles on the series(in The Colonial Newsletter) on the“Link Fingerprint” concept which allowed researchers to start making sense of what had previously been a series that few dared venture in(indeed, until very recently several British dealers referred to counterfeit halfpence and evasion coppers as“album weeds” things of no value that seemed to spread and multiply whenever one turned away. That, of course, changed when American collectors started paying serious money for them– with numerous four-figure, and even a few five-figure prices, those same British dealers are now overjoyed to find counterfeits instead of regal coins! Irish sterling silver serving or stuffing spoon made by Richard Sawyer of Dublin around the turn of the 19th century. This piece was made between 1794-1809. The handle is in a traditional Fiddle pattern form and the top has an old, original monogram of the initials ET or EJ. The Dublin sterling silver Hibernia. Crowned harp and date letter hallmarks were all used in a square punch, as seen on the back of this handle, between 1794 and 1809. So even though we cannot make out the date letter, because all three hallmarks are in a square punch together, the piece is certainly from this time period. You may want to add sashing and borders to make it bigger. All hand-pieced. Many tiny squares were neatly sewn together in a 9-patch design to make an Irish Chain pattern. A colorful variety of delicate pastel prints and solids coordinate beautifully against an off-white background. Check out the pictures to see for yourself! Each 9-patch block measures 3" And the tiny squares are 7/8" VERY SMALL! There are some issues. It has been packed away. And there are a few storage stains and small flecks. Description. This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver beer jug has a circular baluster shaped form onto a domed circular foot. The body of this piece of silverware is embellished with impressive chased floral. Foliage, scroll and stylised shell decoration accented with a fruiting vine and incorporating a bordered vacant oval cartouche to either side. The jug is further embellished with a fine and impressive chased mask to the underside of the pouring lip. This Irish piece retains the original hinged hallmarked domed cover retaining the original hallmarked floral and foliage finial. The cover is encircled with chased scroll. This jug is fitted with a C scroll handle ornamented with scrolling leaf decoration incorporating an impressive figurehead to the upper portion. Irish Citizens Army Recruitment Poster - 1913 ( IRA )
This is such a great and rare print. It is a recruitment poster for‘The Irish Citizen Army’ ICA) from 1913. The ICA was a group of trained trade union volunteers in Dublin for the defence of workers demonstrations from the British police. It was formed by James Larkin and Jack White. Other famous members later joined including James Connolly. Sean Casey, Constance Markiewicz and Francis Sheehy-Skeffington. In 1916. They took part in the Easter Rising with the Irish Volunteers(check out our Irish Volunteer recruitment poster too from 1913! against British Occupation in Ireland. They helped occupy the General Post Office on Sackville Street(now O’Connell Street) during the Rising. James Connolly was made commander of the rebel forces in Dublin during the Rising and issued orders to surrender after a week. He was executed by British firing squad ... moresome weeks after for his part in the Rising. The surviving ICA members were interned in Frognach in Wales until 1919. Many of the ICA later joined the Irish Republican Army(IRA) so in a sense this poster helped start the IRA. An organisation which still exists today! Up for bidding is a pair of rish Horn Rosary that appear to be hand carved as the beads are irruglar in size. There is no rust on the chain. There are a couple of chipped beads but they all look durable. The rosary measures 18" in length. The corpus is in very good shape but the cross is thin and weathered perhaps from heat.
