There is some slight discoloration and foxing spots in the lower three inches of the paper. This ship is probably the most famous of all Coast and Geodetic Survey ships as it was said that“The road to Tokyo was paved with PATHFINDER charts. The PATHFINDER was the first survey ship to have a chart printing press installed and turned out thousands of charts for fleet units during the war. Captain Junius Jarman of the Coast and Geodetic Survey was instrumental in developing techniques for chart printing in a shipboard environment. Admirals Nimitz and Halsey commended the PATHFINDER for work in the Solomon Islands, Green Islands, Marianas Islands, Philippine Islands, and Okinawa during the war. The ship was a lucky ship and survived over 50 bombing raids although working well in advance of the fleet on many occasions. It is nearly 70 years old and does not appear to ever have been used for navigation. It is clean and smooth. There are a few very tiny tears in the extreme bottom edge of the paper. Some wrinkling in the extreme upper right edge, and the extreme corners of the paper are a bit dog eared. None of this interferes with the intergity of the image. Chart shows coast of Pembrokeshire, Cadiganshire, Montgomeryshire, Wales, north to Morecambe Bay. Also East Coast of Ireland from Carlingford south to Tramore, Waterford, including Dublin, Drogheda, and Wexford. The chart has been engraved with great detail and has several beautiful landfall diagrams. This is an outstanding map. A rare find.
