Counties are individually HAND WATERCOLORED. HUNDREDS of roads and railroads are shown throughout the region. Most maps of the time period showed railroads but what sets Johnson's maps apart is the detail and the number of stagecoach and wagon roads he shows on his maps. 1922 Times Atlas, IRELAND, Large Map on 2 Sheets
Two high quality large maps taken from a dilapidated 1922 Times Atlas. Each measures 55cm x 41cm approx. Excluding margins. Vertical centrefolds as published. Condition is good. The printed areas very are fresh and clean; the odd small mark but very minmor. The only real condition problem is with the centrefolds. And the areas close-in on either side where the binding tape is on the versos; here there is some mild waviness; the paper has been gently rubbed but with no surface loss. The margins are clean but lightly tanned on the edges. Versos blank except for titles, orientation maps and plate numbers; both very clean. The maps will be posed rolled in a posting tube. Because the tube will be longer than 45cm. First class postage in the UK is £5.65 plus £1.10 for the tube plus 75p for the ebay‘commission’ on postage charges; this ... moregives a P&P total of £7.50. It comes from a copy of"The Times" Atlas dated 1897 and published at the office of'The Times. Condition/ Defects: The map is in very good clean condition with bright printed image. This is a single page map(no fold) the back is blank except for the title and page number/s. The back shows signs of where it was removed from the gauze binding strip- but any minor paper damage is not visible on the front of the map. This is an original antique map and has probably been handled many times. As such it has an individual character from normal aging and use and may have minor flaws such as fading. Foxing, minor creasing, or corner wear- but is perfectly suitable for framing. Any significant flaws will be mentioned above. Please supersize the photos to see better. 1846 Lewis Atlas Ireland Maps Antique Old Book Topographical Dictionary Dublin
3 large volumes. All published in London by Samuel Lewis, and dated 1846. The Dictionaries state that this is a 2nd Edition, and it does appear that they were first issued in1838(including the Atlas) The Dictionaries are very large books. Vol 1 696 pages, and vol 2 684, with much detail of each place listed. The Atlas is a much slimmer volume, consisting of an attractive Title Page, Contents and Explanations, a large(55cms x 42.5cms) folding map of the entire Country, and 31 County maps, each on a single page, and all beautifully handcoloured in outline. It is the Atlas that is the jewel in this set, a very attractive early Victorian publication. The 2 Dictionaries measure 33.5cms x 26.5cms. The Atlas is much the same size. Condition: There are 3 volumes. The covers and spines of all of them are poor. Vol 2 of the Dictionaries lacking a spine ... morealmost completely. The boards are attached, but not firmly at the back. Please see details visible in my photos. However, inside the books things improve a good deal. They are all clean, and holding together well. All have an old bookplate on the front endpaper"W Sprent" There is a little foxing in the Atlas, but mainly visible on the backs, and it really is very little. The original outline handcolouring is lovely and bright, and the large folding map is in good condition. So once opened, an excellent set! As mentioned these are big and heavy volumes. Within most of the UK it will be free. Using a courier service(for which I will need a phone number of the buyer) To send the entire set to N Ireland will be £12.00, and to the Republic of Ireland, £20.00. I can send the Atlas on its own should the Dictionaries not be required for £8.00 to N Ireland, and £14.00 to the Republic. To send the entire set further afield will be even more(some £50.00) I have other such antique maps and atlases in my shop. 1908, The North Of Ireland, Antique Atlas Map
A map that was removed from a dilapidated copy of the Harmsworth Atlas. Published in 1908. Measures 48cm x 35cm approx. Excluding borders. Very good clean crisp condition. Vertical centrefold as published. Some minor parallel creasing along the centrefold. Some toning and the odd faint mark in the borders. I’ll post the map rolled in a wide-diameter posting tube.
