Exquisite& Elegant Handmade Antique Victorian Irish Wedding Skirt c. mid 1800's Swags 3D Flowers Crochet Chain Stitch*One of A Kind* An absolute exquisitely elegant handmade Antique Victorian Irish Wedding Skirt c. mid 1800's. The swag style. The altered height front to back, the various examples of Irish lace were all created on this wedding skirt; 3 D petal flowers, rose buds that are layered and open up, swags of crochet vignette, chainstitched scroll vines& leaves, and bottom hem all finished with 3 D flowers to make this over the top sensational. The waist line measures 42" round with opening in back free of hooks or snaps. It has a very narrow strip of silk/satin that may have been originally gathered to the bodice. Length at mid front to hem is 3l" to 37" depending on how the waist line is laid, it then ... moretapers to back length of 48" 52" depending on one's height to that of waist line. Overall condition is very good. The net mesh is very soft, there are 4 orangy spots on the inside back of flowers which is hidden by layers of petals turned right side out. There are breaks in the net scattered, the largest 1/2" when hung are unnoticable. Picture 9 shows light stitch at left so to keep in tact while photographing. The remaining breaks in the net could easily be covered with similar work or just left be. As it dates back to Victorian Era, the front is meant to hang off the floor, which an under skirt to the floor exentuates this period style at its finest. Early VEGA Tenor Banjo Style N 17 Fret Irish Tenor w Skin Head Antique NICE...!!
Vintage VEGA 17 Fret Tenor Banjo Manufactured Approx 1925-1930 Up for offer is a very nice Vintage VEGA 17 Fret Style N Tenor Banjo. Matching numbers on rim and dowell stick. Serial number on inside of rim and on dowel stick is 71540 which according to a quick internet search would date it from approx. 1925-1930. Condition is very nice overall as shown in photos. It seems to play well and sounds great. The Vega Style N banjos have a great sound and are perfect for jamming and performing. The 17 fret neck commonly called"Irish Tenor" makes it easy to handle and play. It is curently tuned to CGDA with new strings. But could be tuned many different ways, depending on the player and type of music. Auction is for banjo only. No case. It looks to be in very nice conditon and is described to the best of my ability below: RIM/ HEAD: Rim ... moreand head assembly including hardware is very nice overall as shown with what looks to be original finish. As it is old. This banjo and components will show wear from use and storage including scratches, scuffs, marring, etc from use and storage over the years. There are no breaks or cracks or damage to rim that I can see. Metal hardware including tension rim tone ring, shoes, hooks and nuts are nice overall and have good overall shine and show normal wear and patina as seen including minor scratches, scuffs, marring and minor corrosion. One hook is missing a nut so I put on a grooved style hook and nut to take it's place. The original hook is included(not pictured) and will need a nut and should be an easy fix. Tailpiece is a reproduction NO KNOT part and has been"antiqued" somewhat so it is not too noticable. An orginal tailpiece could easily be obtained by new owner. No armrest. An original or reproduction could be obtained later if dedired. I believe although cannot guarantee the head size for this banjo is 10 15/16" Head is a older skin head on a flesh ring. Old Irish Glass. The Walter Harding Collection. Including old English& other pieces" By Walter Harding. Printed in Liverpool in 1925. DISCUSSION: An infamous collection within the world of Irish glass collectors–though more through guilt by association than actual defect. Harding had been one of the best customers of Elizabeth Graydon Stannus. Collector, glass dealer, glass factory owner, and author of a well-known book on antique Irish glass. Unfortunately, Stannus has also been called“ the greatest villain in the manipulation of the history of Irish Glass” McConnell. Magazine Antiques, Sept.2004) I suppose we all want to be"the greatest" something. But villain probably isn't at the top of most people's lists. In a talk in 1924 Stannus seems to have obliquely admitted that she had produced some fake Irish glass ... moreusing genuine old molds. And she was also thought to have“improved” some of her genuine old pieces with extra engraving and cutting. As if that was not enough to endear her to the hearts of collectors, she also admitted to melting down pieces of antique Irish colored glass and using the metal to produce new pieces that would have the"correct" antique color. Such stories inevitably have endings. And this one came in 1936 when the Harding Collection was auctioned by Sotheby’s for about 1/12th of what he had paid for it. The irony of that is that the Harding collection is not known to have had a many fakes, although in the auction, and in this earlier, private catalog, some of the date attributions are improbably early. Still, the collection was large and varied, and is presented elegantly, with most of the glass photographed against a black background. And if you are looking for a famous collection of Irish glass(for better or worse) this is certainly it. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 6.5”x10” 108 pages, many black& white plates. This is for 8 antique Celtic Renaissance white Irish linen double damask dinner napkins with a triple Trinity monogram. The Celtic circle pattern is wonderful on these naps& hard to capture. There is a corner motif as well. The hand embroidered Trinity triple monogram may be I F G, I'm not positive but have a look yourself to see. The F or center letter is filled with embroidered dots. These are well used& actually worn but wow they have a fantastic silky hand still& a good weight, they're just beautiful old napkins despite the wear. Recently washed& pressed but you may want to fre shen them-or not. Several of the embroidered monograms have wear-pulls at the corners from decades of ironing I imagine. 1 ... morenapkin has a small hole, there are some thinning spots in a few, short lengths of the hand hemmed edges are loose here& there& there are a couple naps with some very faint but present old stains. I have shown some of these issues in the pics, have a look. Not perfect by any means but actually these are such fine quality they just have a look& feel of"shabby" elegance now. Twelve magnificent HUGE vintage IRISH LINEN damask napkins with a hand embroidered central double monogram and a millmark in each corner. The millmark is a circle with a"B" inside. The monogram is nicely done. The main letter is a"S" But I'm not sure about the second one.possibly a"W" M" or letter"E" I thought it might be an ART DECO style. Perhaps some kind ebayer will know. The napkins are a luscious pale butter yellow color. These are really incredible napkins. The pictures just don't do justice to them. You really have to feel them to experience the fine quality. The fabric is silky and lustrous and features a beautiful damask design of acanthus and scrolls and are hand hemmed with tiny stitches. All a sign of the finest quality linen. Antique irish crochet lace knit from pillow cases 5 pc lot dolls crafting trim
Nice collection of lace edging from early 1900's. The beige(last on 1st picture) was a top trim only and measures 16 x 4.5 inches. The 3rd picture is a knit that is very deminsional-looks like two layers. But only one measures 16 x 4 inches. The other 3 are full pillowcase trims. Two are 34 x 5 inches. One still attached by hand to pillowcase. These are each joined in a circle with a hand seam. Pillow case has lots of freckles. But lace is beautiful. The nest(1st in 2nd picture) is a smaller version of the two larger pieces- measures 39 x 3 inches. All of these pieces are in great condition and would be nice for crafts. Dolls or trim. This gorgeous white-ivory linen tablecloth is unused and still in its original fold with its original tags still attached. This cloth dates to the early 1900s. The first large tag is embossed in gold. Green and silver and has a symbol of a lion rampart at the top and the words‘registered trade mark. Below the lion is a Latin saying I can’t make out. The tag is marked‘Gold Medal Brand. Colorful and lovely! This vinage 1930's Irish chain quil is made with hundreds of tiny 3/4" postage stamp sized squares. Lots of vintage feedsack, dress prints and solid cottons. Hand pieced in an Irish chain pattern, some of the edges of the chain have been machine reinforced. The quilt is in very good condition. I found one frayed square at an edge and 3 others with just the start of a tiny seam seperation. All four sides have an 8" border of postage stamp pieces so its in great condition with just those few need a tiny repair. The front of the quilt is a wonderful robins egg blue but along the one side it looks like the maker ran short(remember its post depression era) and a slightly darker steele blue is use, I have taken several pictures so you can see the color difference.
