Antique map of Connecticut CT 1932 professionally framed
This listing is for a 1932 Map of the State of Connecticut. It says"Prepared By The State Highway Department" It was made/printed by" Lutz& Sheinkman LITH NY" It shows all the old highways and roads in red. The map was crinkled up in a ball when found in an old basement. A professional framer placed it flat and smoothed it the best way possible. The dimensions are 61"w x 47" A picture of this size was best suited to have plexi-glass or some type of clear plastic to prevent cracking instead of using glass. It looks great though as you can see from the picture. The map is in good condition. It was framed over 5 years ago and has not curled or cracked etc. One water mark is shown in the left corner from neglect in the basement. The watermark is very small and appears in the last picture. It looks like Portuguese. Italian, but could be Spanish. This was framed at the Ferguson Art Gallery, 1262 Prospect Street, La Jolla, California. There is no information on the Internet about the place, so this had to have been done some long time ago. This is an original map from 1875 with hand drawn borders. This map has some damage but looks absolutely stunning in the frame. It sits on an acid free backing and has archival mattes. Plus its behind museum glass! A glass that not only blocks 99.99% of damaging UV light but it also has a coating that brings out colors and even has a non glare property to it. What I am trying to say is that this is a MUSEUM quality piece. It is completely 100% original and would look wonderful in your home office or study! The map itself measures about 6.5" by 8" while the frame which almost looks like a shadow box. Measures about 14" by 16" and is a little more than 2" thick. ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is a famous 1850s Antique John Tallis& Company/ Designed by Rapkin Framed Map of the Old United States before we had the western states. Like California, Washington, Arizona, etc! This is a wonderful Collector's Piece! It's in pretty good condition in my opinion but it has slightly faded& there is some water like staining but I think it gives the map character(this is shown in photos) Also. I have taken a couple photos of the bottom left& right corners of the map to show that it was done by Tallis& Company& Rapkin, however it is faded& will be better seen in person but it is there. The camera had a hard time capturing this lettering. There is also 2 slight tiny half inch white paint drips on the back side on the frame.I'm sure this can be sanded off if you want but it is on the back. ... moreOther then that it's in good shape& the frame is sturdy also. From looking at the back where the back lining paper has been ripped a bit. It shows the wood backing& it looks like the map may have been put on the wood using an adhesive to make it stay perfectly on the wood.I took a photo of this& I believe it is the 11th photo of the group. Here you can see the inner workings.the plank of wood& the paper that the map is printed on. The map sticks out a little bit behind the wood. This is an antique framed 1747 Emanuel Bowen World Map. An accurate map of the world laid down from the most approved maps and charts. The map itself measures about 11 1/2" x 7 1/2" The frame is about 24" x 20" There are water marks on the back of the frame and some dark marks on the map. The map has been folded and crease marks are apparent. There are also creases where the map does not appear to be flat against the backing. Please see pics. Don’t be out bid at the last second! An attractive copper engraved chart of the islands with a large inset‘Plan de la Baye de Karakakooa’ by Rigobert Bonne. Map traces Cook's tracks through the island chain in 1778 and again in 1779. The chart incorporates a nice compass rose. Very minor foxing on upper left side. 1780. Matted. Framed. Overall size framed 21.5" wide and 17" long. I can provide better pictures if requested. Rigobert Bonne(1727–1795) was one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century. An original handcoloured John Cary map of Berkshire dated 1787. The year this map was published. It measures c12 inches x 10 inches, and is under glass in a 20th century black wooden frame with gilt edge decoration. Apart from light age toning to much of the image area, and a crease to the upper right hand corner, it is in good, sound and clean condition. Previous printsellers labels on rear as shown.
