Antique 1889 Telegraphic Train Order Framed w/ 1889 Pennsylvania Lines Map I buy large quantities of books at estate sales to sale on Amazon. Occasionally I find something cool like an envelope full of Telegraphic Train Order carbons from 1899. There were several carbons I found but only two or three were intact. They are very brittle and fall apart easy being that they are only carbon paper and at least 116 years old. I contacted Penn State University and to my surprise they had a train map from the same train line from the same year! Of course they are not coming off of that but they were willing to make me a very nice copy on some very nice paper. I took the carbon and the map to the local frame shop and got the very best linen mat they had as well as the very best glass. The glass is anti-glare and anti-UV and all that good stuff. It ... morewas considerably more expensive than regular glass but I suppose that doesn't necessarily make it better. No expense was spared in the framing of this piece and all the framing is brand new. This piece has never graced a wall. You will find nothing else like this on eBay or anywhere else! This is an original Mitchell's engraved map of the United States There is no year on the map itself. But through research it dates to between June 1863- May 1864, right toward the end of the Civil War, when Montana and Wyoming weren't yet territories. You can clearly see Idaho as a large territory, and Oklahoma is still Indian Territory Looks to have been taken from an old Mitchell's School Atlas book and is pasted onto light pink cardboard backing. Vintage Antique Framed Map 20x25" Serving Tray CAPE BRETON HIGHLANDS NAT'L PARK
Up for auction is a framed map with glass and wood backing that has been made into a serving tray. This was recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. The map is of Cape Breton National Park. Nova Scotia, and is a little less than 20 x 25" It has some staining to the edges as these home made trays are not"water tight" so there most likely was a spill at some point that seeped into the paper underneath and that always turns to a stain over time. But lovely none the less and should this be turned into a wall hanging then easy to put a mat around to cover the stains. Maps are wonderful, and this is a great one in a nice oak frame with handles. Would be great hanging on the wall in between uses. The glass is quite dirty but in fine working order. The frame is in good shape, sturdy, no seeming glue losses however ... morescratches and dings as if well used in its day. A wonderful display piece worthy of hanging. Just to be clear. I do not know if this is an original or a reprint. Given the indicated year I would have guessed it to be a reproduction, but there is no indication anywhere on the map to show it to be such. If it is a reproduction, I obviously do not know its date. Shown here are the whole map, the back to show the hanging apparatus, and close-ups of the legend, one of the human figures along the side and one of the towns along the top- there are six such towns represented- Copenhagen, Elsenor, Landskroon, Ripen, Sleswyck, and Hamburgh. The pictures along the two sides are generic Danish folks. At the top left is a picture of Christian IV, King of Denmark at the time, and at the top right is a picture of the son of Christian III. The map is framed in glass and appears to be in excellent condition. Just for the record.
