The somewhat more scarce Bakewell edition was published in a larger book than the usual Taylor Blomes and hence has only a single fold as opposed to the three usually found. Some light patchy browning as seen and three tears have been repaired verso. Which are barely discernable on the face of the map. Some placenames and an extra road have been added by an early hand in faded ink. Centre fold as issued. There are good margins all round, always a bonus on Blome maps. The son of French Huguenot's who came to England in 1709. In addition to his work as surveyor and mapmaker. Rocque was an engraver and map-seller. Rocque is now mainly remembered for his map of London. He began work on this in 1737 and it was published in 24 printed sheets in 1747. It was by far the most detailed map of London published up to that time, and remains an important historical resource. The map of London and his other maps brought him an appointment as cartographer to the Prince of Wales in 1751. A fire in 1750 destroyed his premises and stock. All this detail is enhanced by local heraldry and intricately engraved scrolls, borders and a fine title cartouche. He then became an inspector of letters in the General Post Office, where his responsibilities included trying to'read' illegible hand writing! His highly decorative series of county maps were first published in separate issues for each county between 1830 and 1832. In 1836 these were brought together in one work. By George Virtue& Co. An attractive and large steel-engraved. Hand-coloured county map of Middlesex, published by Greenwood and Co in London in 1829. The map depicts the county of Middlesex in some detail and also includes a decorative title cartouche, compass rose, Explanation' and'Reference to the Hundreds' as well as two very fine engravings of St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. The printed area measures approx 650mm x 540mm with margins beyond and the sheet is blank verso. Overall the map is in quite good condition with a clean and clear impression. However. Buyers should note that there are large closed tears at the top and bottom of the centrefold, the top one in particular extends 20cm into the printed area, fortunately without any loss. Pieter Van Der(Petrus Kaerius) Lincolneshire(Miniature Speed' Map) London: William Humble:1627] A fine original minature map of Lincolnshire with fine later hand-colouring. The map engraved by Pieter van der Keere in c1627. Image size approx. 84mm x 122mm. With better than normal margins for this type of map, with text to verso. An usually VG++ bright clean impression of this rare'Miniature Speed' map. KEERE. Pieter van der(Petrus Kaerius) Pieter van den Keere was one of a number of refugees who fled from religious persecution in the Low Countries between the years 1570 and 1590. He moved to London in 1584 with his sister who married Jodocus Hondius. Also a refugee there, and through Hondius he undoubtedly learned his skills as an engraver ... moreand cartographer. In the course of a long working life he engraved a large number of individual maps for prominent cartographers of the day but he also produced an Atlas of the Netherlands(1617-22) and county maps of the British Isles which have become known as Miniature Speeds, a misnomer which calls for some explanation. In about 1599 he engraved plates for 44 maps of the English and Welsh counties. The regions of Scotland and the Irish provinces. The English maps were based on Saxton, the Scottish on Ortelius and the Irish on the famous map by Boazio. These maps were not published at once in book form but there is evidence which suggests a date of issue(in Amsterdam) between 1605 and 1610 although at least one authority believes they existed only in proof form until 1617 when Willem Blaeu issued them with a Latin edition of Camden's Britannia. At this stage two maps were added. One of the British Isles and the other of Yorkshire, the latter derived from Saxton. To confuse things further the title page of this edition is signed'Guilielmus noster Janssonius' which is the Latinized form of Blaeu's name commonly used up to 1619. At some time after this the p

Moule paid as much attention to aesthetic appeal as he did to cartographic detail. Monmouthshire is embellished with heraldic devices.
