The map is in a lovely condition. A little browned and creased but only what one would expect from so old an item. The handcolouring is most attractive, certainly old and possibly original and the whole makes a splendid decorative item with its florid calligraphy, and ornamental touches like the Strapwork Cartouche, the Galleons in the sea, and the Compass Rose. York is situated at the bottom. The map measures approx. 39cms x 29cms. With reasonable margins. The plate mark is clearly visible, and there is a centrefold as issued. It has been photographed in a mount. But to send it I shall remove it and put it in a tube. There may be small tape residue on the back where it was fixed to the mount. Priced to sell starting at 0.99p. But I trust the value of this very early county map will be realised. I will post worldwide.

This is a very scarce antique map that folds out lengthwise only and the cardboard pages fold down in different sections. Depending on a person's destination. The cover is a leather binding. I could not find a date anywhere, nor could I find any additional information about this map when I tried to research it. DESCRIPTION Acquired at an auction/Estate Sale along with lots more fabulous items is this vintage 1629 Map of England and Wales. I am not an expert on old maps. So I can't tell you when this map was printed. I can tell you that it is and has been sealed in this wood frame under glass for a long time. So I can't take it out for a closer look. I have looked at it thru the glass with a loop, it looks like it could be an engaving? No dot patterns like newer prints. It also looks to be hand colored, but again I'm not sure. As for the map it has great illustrations and colors. It shows some yellow aged areas mostly around the edges. It lists major port cities of England and Wales with pictures. Vintage Set of Alexander Gross Geographia Large Canvas England & Wales Maps
From an Estate. As shown in photos- a vintage Alexander Gross Geographia lot of 18- 40" wide x 30" high canvas maps of England and Wales. Originally the set was 19 maps- number 18 is missing. Number 13 is split in half, number 1 is missing the 1/4" top margin and number 4 has some stains, otherwise the other 14 look good to me. The original top of the box is also included with a sample of a map and the following description"Geographia Two Miles to One Inch Map of England and Wales Published in 19 Sheets, Each Sheet 30 1/2" x 40" Size by Alexander Gross, F.R.G.S. I do not see a date of publication on the box lid or on the maps. I guessing maybe the 1930's or 1940's- but again, its just a guess. JOHN SPEED HAND COLORED 17" X 22" MAP OF KENT 1612 VINTAGE HARDSTOCK
Wonderful vintage John Speed 17" X 22" hand-colored Map of Kent 1612 entitled: KENT WITH HER CITIES AND EARLES DEFCRIBED AND OBFERUED" This title is not misspelled. As it is done in the original Old English text. John Speed(1552–1629) was the most famous of all English map-makers specifically known as England's most famous"Stuart Period" mapmaker. The detail on this map is magnificent. On the map's bottom right corners are insets of the plans of Canterbury, with it's cathedral, left bottom) and Rochester(right bottom) The armorial devices of the Earls of Kent are depicted along the top, with the Royal coat of arms on their right. The map is on heavy stock and does show some signs of aging as it is definitely vintage. There is a stain on the top right corner of the plain border which would not be seen when ... moreframed. It has been housed in a cylindrical cardboard container and will be shipped that way. Reading this map is absolutely fascinating!

Inside are a list of additional available maps. This map inlcudes railways. Tramways, omnibus and tramway routes, buildings, landmarks etc. It was published in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
