Given that it originally appeared in the huge format and quite expensive shipping atlas which had a far smaller distribuition, not in one of the much more common smaller quarto-sized Family home atlases this company produced. Walker's International Atlas" The base map was from Cram's Railway Atlas. But the plates were used to create this outstanding work of art by hand coloring. Nice Hand colored map of Canada from 1848
Up for sale is a nice hand colored(outlined) map of Canada published circa 1848 and engraved by F.P. Becker and C. Pantentees. It was published as part of the Barclay's Universal Dictionary by in London by Virtue and Company. While the map does say it is of Canada it really only shows the Eastern part that boarders the U.S. Map and book was from the 1848 version although that edition may have been published in 1849. There is no copyright information identifying the year in the book. Map measures approximately 10.75 inches by 8.25 inches. It has some general light browning and wear. A couple small folds. Bends or rips along the edge not impacting the map. The edge where it was removed from the book has not been clipped and hence is a bit ragged. Not perfect but. Authentic 135 year old map of Etobicoke 14"x 18" Carefully removed from the Illustrated Historical Atlas, The County of York, by Miles& Co. Toronto, 1878. On the reverse a print of The Earl and Countess of Dufferin. Any person bidding on this and similar maps that I have on ebay should remember that they are 135 years old and therefore do bear some imperfections through having been'thumbed' over during the years. Some have spotting and are soiled with minor tears around the edges but none of them have been trimmed so some of these faults can be removed if the buyer wishes to trim them. To avoid folding, the map would be mailed in a tube. Postage $12.00.

These maps are from a very rare 1921 atlas entitled"The New World Atlas and Gazetteer" and was edited and revised by Francis J. Reynolds, Formerly Reference Librarian, Library of Congress. Description on inside cover front page says, 1920 Federal Census Edition, New Population Statistics of Federal Census of 1920 of All States and Territories, of All Cities and Towns of The United States, Profusely Illustrated. Atlas was published by P. F. Collier& Son Company, New York. These are full and accurate maps. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This page has Manitoba on one side and Saskatchewan on the flip side. Scale on ... moreManitoba map is 1 inch equals about 33 miles. Scale on flip side Saskatchewan map is 1 inch equals about 45 miles. Maps are large, pages being 15" x 10 3/4" with viewing area being approximately 10 1/2” x 8 ½” or larger. Each map has eight tiny pinholes where it was bound with cord and mounted in the atlas. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Both maps have indexes that show their individual counties, and principal cities and towns. Both these maps show railways. A few of the map pages have very small rust spots; most do not. See pictures of individual maps) This map page is in excellent shape! What appears to be a lighter area on the map is from camera flash. This map deserves to be framed and would look great hanging in your office! Would make a wonderful gift! Comes from a smoke-free. Pet-free home.
