It is from Colton's Atlas of the World. Published in New York by the Colton Company. 1856. There is a copyright date of 1855 printed on the map states as"Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year 1855 by J.H. Colton in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the United States. Colton's name also appears under the title block. Colton would sell his business to Johnson around 1860 and many of these plates would be modified and reprinted in the Johnson Atlas. There are also inset of Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco or Recife. A Beautiful Map that will frame up nicely. Size: The map image measures approximately 12 1/2 by 15 1/2 inches on a 14 1/4 by 17" page with a margin all around for framing as seen in the pic. Condition: The map is in Fair condition with overall tonal aging and original hand coloring. There is darkening from ageing with a mottled appearance and some damp staining as seen in the pics.
