Someone visitied the United Kingdom, England and Scotland and these are the maps and tour guides and handbooks for various attractions they used. They all show use and a couple of the maps and guides are falling apart. They are mostly mounted on cloth and I found a couple dates on a few of the things indicating this is a mostly 20's 30's lot but some look older. A couple of the maps are made by MacPherson and others by Bartholomew. I should have took pictures of some of them opened up. They are pretty cool old maps. These maps come from a PEOPLE'S ENCYLOPEDIA OF UNIVERSAL KNOWLEDGE AND DATED 1882. This book has a loose board. Detached and some missing pages at the beginning. One map is loose from the book already. The loose map is the World. I took photos of all the other maps so this auction is sold for the book and pictured maps. The maps included are The World, France, German Empire, Aboriginal America(The Indian Nations) Ireland, The last one is Territorial Map showing the growth of The United States 1780 to 1882. 5 maps total. Double page. The maps were engraved by Phillips and Hunt New York. Some of the maps have light wear and small closed tears. None of the tears affect the ... moremaps themselves. The maps are bound so that they fold out nice for full view and not hindered by the binding. See the photo that shows how the maps are bound in. They will remove very easily and make a great presentation when framed. They are done so that the maps fold out fully away from the crease of the binding.

This SCARCE map is evidently an unrecorded late derivative of the famous Jeffery's map of the same title, which was published somewhere between[1783] j) and[1786] k) The map was of particular importance for its definition of the boundary line between Nova Scotia and New England, which seemed to be redefined with every new issue according to land surveys. It therefore became a reference work for defining this part of the frontier between the United States and Canada. Whether this map sheds new light on the way the frontier was finally defined may be known only by comparing it to its immediate predecessor and ancestor. 1561 Genuine OLD Antique map of Southern Russia, Caucasus. Ruscelli
Genuine Antique map"Tabula Asiae III" by Ruscelli. Venice, c. 1561. This 450 year old Ptolemaic map of southern Russia on a trapezoidal projection shows the Causasus between the Black and Caspian Seas including Armenia, Assyriae and Albania. Seas are stippled and mountains and lakes are imaginatively drawn. Ruscelli's maps were some of the first to use the then new copperplate engraving method, rather than historic wood blocks. Ptolemaic maps, representing the early understanding of world geography as mapped by Claudius Ptoloemy in the second century, were the standard for well over 1000 years until exploration expanded understanding in the late 15th century. Good strong impression, margins and center fold as issued. Binding holes present resulting in minor image loss. Faint age toning. Latin text on verso.
