This magnificent reliquary with the hand painted portrait on porcelain of St. Vincent de Paul with a piece of his black habit cloth enclosed under glass ... morein the special relic compartment. With beautifully detailed brass holding it all, was obtained at the estate sale of a very wealthy French lady in NYC. Her family said she brought it over from France years ago as she had a great devotion to the Saint of Charity. The believe it was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's by his order the Vincentians. It is 6 inches tall from base to top of cross and 3 inches wide, in excellent condition for age, a truly rare piece of devotional art with a cloth worn by the Saint. The wax seal and threads are intact and to show the age of this relic a close-up picture of the wax seal shows some deterioration with age. Another very unique feature of this Vincentians relic is that a very small medal of Our Lady has been added to the seal and threads, the family told me the lady spoke to a Vincentian father who told her it was the custom of their order in the late 1800's to add a medal of Our Lady to all relics out of respect for Our Lady and to further insure the seal was not broken. It can be free standing as the pictures show or it has a metal loop so it could be hung on the wall.

RARE OLD RELIQUARY CRUCIFIX RELIC Saint Maria Goretti
Religious relic intact wax seal string Catholic. This crucifix measures 5x4 Saint Maria Goretti Virgin Martyr It has the wax seal and threads This THECA and relic are in very good condition You are buying the THECA The relic is a gift Please respect what it stands for. Maria Goretti(October 16. 1890– July 6, 1902) is an Italian virgin-martyr of the Roman Catholic Church, and she is one of the youngest canonized saints. She was born on the eastern side of Italy to a farming family. But increased poverty forced the family to move to the western side of the country when she was only six. Her father died when she was nine, and the family had to share a house with another family, the Serenellis. Maria took over household duties from her mother, while her mother and the rest of her family worked in the fields. One afternoon, Alessandro, the son ... moreof the Serenelli family, made sexual advances to her, but when she refused to submit to him because that would be a mortal sin, he stabbed her multiple times. She was taken to hospital, but died after forgiving him. He was promptly arrested, convicted and jailed. After three years he repented, and when eventually released from prison, he visited her mother begging forgiveness, which she readily granted. He later became a lay brother in a monastery, eventually dying peacefully in 1970. Maria was beatified in 1947, and canonized in 1950. Her mother attended both ceremonies.

Multi Relic Reliquary VEIL OF MARY, Blessed Mother ~ Saint Anthony of Padua
Hi. Here is another beautiful multi reliquary from the estate of a French Archbishop who had a huge relic collection. This relic contains 2 importand relics: EX VELO BVM- The Veil of Blessed Virgin Mary-OSS S. ANT PAT- Oss relic of Saint Anthony Padua also called Patova The reliquary itself is fire gilded with 24K gold. This was a process done mainly in France where the base metal was heated up then gilded with a mixture of pure gold and mercury. The mercury would evaporate. Leaving a rich gold gilding. This was a dangerous process for the guilders, as they usually ended up with mercury poisoning. Don't worry, the mercury is all gone, and this is safe to wear. From the style of this reliquary. I would date it to around the 1870's. It measures 2 1/2" x 1 1/8" and about 3/4" thick. Relic Reliquary STAFF SAINT JOSEPH Sp. Virgin Mary ~ Foster Father Jesus Christ
This is another relic from the estate of a French Archbishop's extensive relic collection. This is a relic of Saint Joseph's staff or walking stick. The relic is labeled: S. Joseph Sp BM. Saint Joseph, spouse of the Virgin Mary There are no first class relics of Saint Joseph. Ancient church tradition says he was assumed into heaven. Like the Blessed Mother, but this is not church dogma. There are 3 different relics associated with and venerated for Saint Joseph; his cloak. His staff and his belt. This relic is from his staff. The main relic of his staff is encased in silver and kept in the Hermitage of Camaldoli in Central Italy. The staff St. Joseph holds comes from an apocryphal tale. According to The Golden Legend. Several men besides Joseph wanted Mary's hand in marriage. Each suitor, the story goes, was instructed by the ... morehigh priest to place a staff on an altar. The staff that Joseph brought miraculously burst into leaf, a sign that he was God's choice to be Mary's husband{compare this story with the account of Aaron's rod blossoming in Numbers 17:16-23} In artistic representations of the scene, the unsuccessful suitors are usually portrayed breaking their staffs across their knees, while Joseph holds his leafy staff. These other suitors from the legend are not seen in this window(again, probably due to size constraints) but the foster-father of our Lord is shown holding his staff, the leaves and flowers of which can be clearly seen. This is why Saint Joseph is usually represented holding a staff with lilies blooming from the tip. This relic measures 1 1/2" x 1" Threads and seal are perfect. Ensuring the integrity of the relic. This dates from circa 1800. The name of the Archbishop will be given to the relic's new custodian. As per the request of the family. Please see my other auctions. I am listing many French and Italian antiques and relics, most of them very rare, including instruments of Christ's Passion, The True Cross and the Stone of Anointing. THE STAFF OF S
