She was born on the eastern side of Italy to a farming family. But increased poverty forced the family to move to the western side of the country when she was only six. Her father died when she was nine, and the family had to share a house with another family, the Serenellis. Maria took over household duties from her mother, while her mother and the rest of her family worked in the fields. The crucifix itself is silver plated on brass with applied black wooden panels to the front cross arms and the body of Christ in brass. Swivels open sideways to reveal the relics and names of seven saints. Stamped GERMANY to back of crucifix. Obviously a piece of great age; silver plating has mostly worn away and there is a vacant hole to the top where I believe a screw fitting was once applied. Stays closed fine but easily replaced if desired. Measurements: 2.5" by 1.5" Weight: 26.08gms. Crucifix measures not including the screw 4 1/4" L x 2 1/8" W and is inlaid with Ebony wood and metal and is marked Germany. Inside there are 13 saints with relics and I can see cloth behind the center"Agnus Dei" but the piece was constructed through strict religious laws and I didn't want to start pulling it apart and ruining it. I'm not an expert and I have seen these with a 4 or 5 Saints so I'm going to describe what I see. You unscrew the bottom and it opens to reveal the relics inside and there are 13 Saints each with I believe their names written but some I can't make out the whole name so I will write down as much as I can see. An unbelievably beautiful relic crucifix with old ebony wood inlay and pewter corpus. The cross is possibly pewter or nickel. Under the head of Jesus is a decorative halo. The top of the crucifix swivels to reveal the precious relics of Saint Gerard. Saint Therese and St Anne. Perfectly placed and clean inside this detailed crucifix. On the back of the crucifix is a small cut out circle and is stamped Germany. There once was a screw that kept the crucifix locked, but is missing. It has no bearing on the actual piece. The swivel is not a loose swivel. It releases with light pressure to reveal the relics. This is a small to medium piece. Measures approx 3" long x 1-3/4" wide. There are slight cracks in the wood due to the age. It makes for a beautiful piece of art in our opinion. It is simply stunning and ever so sacred. Nickel plated brass with ebony inlay. Trinity motif, approx. 2 3/8 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches tall with the locking screw and bale.A screw at top unlocks the compartment holding relics of The Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ. In a beautiful and detailed sterling silver reliquary with a depiction of the Crucifiction on the back cover. The relic itself is on a gold flower or star. Backed with red silk. Under it are the words in French"Vraie Croix N.S.J.C.Notre Seigneur Jesus Christ. for TRUE CROSS of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The N.S,J.C. seems cut off in my photos, but they are clearly visible when looking at it in person. Turning the relic over. One sees the beautiful red wax seal of a Bishop or Cardinal, and the intact red silk threads ensuing the integrity and authenticity of this blessed relic. Antique Reliquary Relic Crucifix Cross Rosary Lot of 3 St. Elizabeth St. Dominic
This listing is for a lot of 3 antique wood rosaries. All in tact, containing three different reliquary crucifixes with relics from Saints Elizabeth, Dominic and a third that I am unable to decipher the writing. The Saint Elizabeth rosary also has a St. Benedict medal attached to it. The inscription inside reads"Agnus Dei Vincentia S. Elisabeth" I am not 100% sure which Saint Elizabeth this is a relic for. My research tells me the word"vincentia" in Latin means triumphant but I am not sure if that is its intended use here. The crucifix measures approximately 2 inches long and is also engraved on the back"Alba Roma P.L.L. Paolo" which may have been the name of its owner, a nun perhaps. The Saint Dominic rosary's internal inscription reads"Agnus Dei, bois de l arbre de St. Dominique" This crucifix ... morealso measures approximately 2 inches in length. The third and largest rosary has the inscription that I cannot decipher, other than"Agnus Dei" This rosary also has a Pope Pius and Saints Peter and Paul medal attached to it. The crucifix measures 2 1/2 inches tall. All three rosaries close with a tiny screw in the bottom. These rosaries came from a large lot of rosaries acquired in Europe. I am not an expert in religious relics so am only conveying what I see on these items.

This antique rosary is made up of"spina cristi" the seeds from a thorny plant said to be what Christ's crown of thorns was made of. Comes from the Zizyphus Spina-Christi plant. Native to the Middle East. The reliquary crucifix opens with a screw which is in working order. Inside are 3 relics: St Dominic, Lamb of God(Agnus Dei) and the Earth from the Catacombs. The main strip reads"Lignum arboris S. P. Dominici" which translates from Latin to"The wood from the tree of Holy Father Dominic" Portions of the word Agnus can be seen and I believe would probably read"Agnus Dei" and refer to piece of wax in the center, which is the Lamb of God. Also there is a small bit of dirt on the right side which is dirt from the Roman catacombs.
