Two Laminated Religious cards to this lot. Roman Catholic St. Joseph of Cupertino is the patron Saint of Aviation. Astronauts, and mental handicaps. Information ... moreon Relics: Relic card reads"Ex Induments" which is Latin for"from the clothing" This phrase was originally designated for 2nd Class Relics ONLY as they were from the clothing of the Saints or Blessed individuals; however. Contemporary relic manufacturers have been using the phrase as a way to identify 3rd Class Relics as well. Making it difficult to identify the correct class of Relics. 3rd Class Relics are pieces of cloth. Canvas, or any item that has touched the to a First or Second Class Relic of the Saint the intent that it be a Third Class Relic. In the case of a 3rd Class Relic. The Catholic Church states may be given to individuals and may be sold; unlike the 1st Class Relic which the Catholic Church does not allow the sale of. In the case of the 4th Class Relic, they are are virtually the same as Third Class Relics. The Third Class Relics on the Medals: These are typically what you purchase on a Pilgrimage to a Shrine of a Saint. When you look at the back of a medal and see a small piece of cloth set in red that small piece of cloth is the relic. The outer edge will either have raised lettering or engraving that reads“EX INDUMENTIS” Latin for"touched cloth" You will notice that all of these medals are made in Italy as they are sanctioned by the Vatican. When properly reverenced. Relics are considered to be powerful Sacramentals, in order for this to occur, the Church recommends ALL Relics to be blessed by a Deacon or Priest of the Roman Catholic Church. Relics are NOT to be taken lightly! These are considered precious gifts from our Holy Saints and to be treated with reverence and respect. Dimensions: approximately 3 7/8 inches high by approximately 2 5/16 inches wide Condition: New. Mint to near mint. Angel prayer card holder is for illustrative purposes only; it is NOT included. Relic Reliquary STAFF SAINT JOSEPH Sp. Virgin Mary ~ Foster Father Jesus Christ
This is another relic from the estate of a French Archbishop's extensive relic collection. This is a relic of Saint Joseph's staff or walking stick. The relic is labeled: S. Joseph Sp BM. Saint Joseph, spouse of the Virgin Mary There are no first class relics of Saint Joseph. Ancient church tradition says he was assumed into heaven. Like the Blessed Mother, but this is not church dogma. There are 3 different relics associated with and venerated for Saint Joseph; his cloak. His staff and his belt. This relic is from his staff. The main relic of his staff is encased in silver and kept in the Hermitage of Camaldoli in Central Italy. The staff St. Joseph holds comes from an apocryphal tale. According to The Golden Legend. Several men besides Joseph wanted Mary's hand in marriage. Each suitor, the story goes, was instructed by the ... morehigh priest to place a staff on an altar. The staff that Joseph brought miraculously burst into leaf, a sign that he was God's choice to be Mary's husband{compare this story with the account of Aaron's rod blossoming in Numbers 17:16-23} In artistic representations of the scene, the unsuccessful suitors are usually portrayed breaking their staffs across their knees, while Joseph holds his leafy staff. These other suitors from the legend are not seen in this window(again, probably due to size constraints) but the foster-father of our Lord is shown holding his staff, the leaves and flowers of which can be clearly seen. This is why Saint Joseph is usually represented holding a staff with lilies blooming from the tip. This relic measures 1 1/2" x 1" Threads and seal are perfect. Ensuring the integrity of the relic. This dates from circa 1800. The name of the Archbishop will be given to the relic's new custodian. As per the request of the family. Please see my other auctions. I am listing many French and Italian antiques and relics, most of them very rare, including instruments of Christ's Passion, The True Cross and the Stone of Anointing. THE STAFF OF S
