This is an exceptional heart I just bought in the south of France. It is a traditional silver(not marked but believe its sterling) engraved ex Voto with a green jewel affixed on the front and the inside has a mirror and a powder sleeve and was used as a compact. Offering for your consideration a lovely 19th century French reliquary/ ex voto of Notre Dame des Victoires(Our Lady of Victories) This antique devotional item dates from the Louis Phillipe(Napoleon III) period of the last quarter of the 19th century. It is composed of an old lithograph of the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus. They are each wearing crowns and the Christ Child stands on the globe of the world. The words"Notre Dame des Victoires" are cut out of paper and rest beneath them. The background is black velvet. The figures are surrounded by a golden braid cloth chain of leaves and flowers. Offering for your consideration a sweet reliquary/ ex voto devotional of Our Lady which is set in a vibrantly colorful frame. This antique devotional item dates from the last quarter of the 19th century and is of German origin. It is composed of a miniature gold plaster statue of Our Lady with a crown and red veil. Which is framed under glass. The outer frame is made of wood. The interior of the frame is covered with beautifully colored, patterned paper. There are three small paper flowers and two tiny blown glass red buds with gold paper surrounding her. The original back has German writing. Please see photos. I believe that it is from a religious pilgrimage site dedicated to the Blessed Mother. A red satin Sacred Heart is shown crowned with a cross and surrounded by a crown of thorns with gold radiances emanating from behind it. The Heart is encircled with a gold braid crown of thorns. It is displayed against a black velvet background and is encased by a gold metal frame behind a domed glass pane. The words"Souvenir de Ste. Anne de Beaupre" are displayed beneath the Sacred Heart. Offering for your consideration an unusual reliquary/ ex voto devotional of Ste. Odile. The patron saint of good eyesight, the blind and the partially sighted. This antique devotional item dates from the first quarter of the 20th century and is of French origin. Here Ste. Odile is shown in her monastic habit as the abbotess of her monastery. Hohenburg Abbey, which is in the background. She is holding an open book with a pair of eyes. There is a natural spring located within her abbey, which is known to cure failing eyesight. She is posed in this devotional setting with silver-grey glitter surrounding her. The frame is brass and has a brass hanger by which it can be hung. The figure is behind a blown convex glass dome. This Ex-Voto Reliquary Souvenir was probably designed and distributed by the cloisterd Benedictine Nuns of Montmartre in the early 1900s. This is a wonderful example of the intricately designed handicraft work accomplished in French Monasteries by cloistered nuns at the turn-of-the-century. Mounted on a black background. Two padded inflamed silk hearts(one is pink; the other is white) are surmounted by a gold cross. Gold chain roping is wrapped around the Pink Heart while the White Heart is impaled by a sword.
