Scarce ANTIQUE MULTI RELICS RELIQUARY WOOD& GESSO FRAME From the late 1800’s early 1900’s. Offered is this scarce authentic multi-relics reliquary. The frame is made of wood with gilded gesso and measures approx. 9 1/2" x 8 ½" It contains eight different paperoles identifying the relics which are: one relic from the St. Sepulchre, one relic from St. Candide, martyr, one relic from the habit of St. Elizabeth, one relic from St. Vincent, martyr, one relic made of soil where St. Peter was crucified, one relic made of stone of the Calvary, and two relics from the Catacombs of St-Zenon. Wax seal is intact but two of the threads detached. There are three small cracks on the front rim gesso and chip on the right side of the gesso and light wear to gold gilding consistent with age but otherwise it is in very good used condition. ... moreAs per ebay’s policy. Antique Saint Mary Draycott Relic? Wood Inlaid MOP A Pledge of Gratitude
I have here. What I believe to be, a wooden relic of St. Mary Draycott. The front has a small inlaid placard that states A Pledge of Gratitude. Inlaid in the diamond shape on the front is a purple colored material that appears to be foil. The back has the carved name Mary Draycott. There are 7 carved notches along both the superior and inferior edges of the piece. On the bottom edge is one large drilled hole. The front handle has inlaid mother of pearl and another inlaid dark wood. It is missing the small piece of lighter colored wood along the bottom, top edge. Due to the patina of the wood and shape of the carved letters on the back I believe it has some significant age to it. It measures 6 1/4 inches x 1 inch x 3/8 inch. RARE Antique 1917 Saint Magnus of Orkney Wood Theta & Sealed Relic under Glass
On auction is the reliquary; the relic. Is a gift that will accompany the reliquary. This reliquary was part of the estate of Bishop Paul Leonard Hagarty. It is 1 inches in diameter and the relic is sealed under glass. This is all the provenance we have; if bidders do not see it in the posted pictures. We do not have it. You will receive what you see in the pictures. Saint Magnus. Earl Magnus Erlendsson of Orkney, sometimes known as Magnus the Martyr, was Earl of Orkney from 1106 to about 1115. He was buried on the spot where he was Matyrd. According to his legend, the rocky area around his grave miraculously became a green field. Later Thora, Magnus' mother asked Haakon allow her to bury him in a Church. Haakon gave his permission and Magnus was then buried at Christchurch at Birsay. There were numerous reports of miraculous happenings ... moreand healings. William the Old. Bishop of Orkney, warned that it was"heresy to go about with such tales" and was then struck blind at his church but subsequently had his sight restored after praying at the grave of Magnus, not long after visiting Norway(and perhaps meeting Earl Rognvald Kolsson) Magnus's nephew. The 59 glossy blrown beads are made of either a wood lookalike material or carved from wood such as coco. They're in very nice condition. Vintage wood and brass crucifix cross reliquary measuring 3" tall without the hanging ring or screw closure at the base and 1 1/2" wide. A few small gouges to the brass. Two 1/8" cracks in the wood on the back at the hand nails but the wood is in no danger of falling off. Inside the cross are labels. Not all of the letters can be seen as they are quite tiny spaces. Under each label are thirteen little chunks I cannot decipher and I will not disturb the labels to inspect under those further. Whatever they may be, they are being gifted with the cross. Between each label there are and were in the past stones. There are three faceted red stones that appear to be rubies. There are six pearl beads with hollowed ... moreout holes. There are seven empty spaces where it appears there once were glued or secured stones. I am just speculating but I believe the pearl beads were added later and at one time all the labels had faceted rubies in between and most of the rubies either fell out or were taken out on purpose. The base is silk ribbon with a silk roping trim. The case is locked closed with the screw in knob. Other than the INRI plaque(Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews) there is no writing or other markings. In researching, it appears this may have been a pectoral cross worn by Catholic Nuns. I cannot be sure of this as I had purchased it at an estate auction. It appears to have some good age as the brass is somewhat tarnished and having nice worn edges. Christian Art Relic Wood Panel Framed Antique Painting Mary
I do not have much info on this piece. Its age and origin are unknown. I submitted photos of it to a local antique enthusiast who writes a column in the Gainesville Sun(John Sakorski) who said that it was likely produced somewhere in Europe in the late 19th or early 20th century. Of course I am unable to confirm this. It appears to be an original painting on a wood panel. The artist's signature is pictured. But I am unable to read it. The frame is secured around the painting so I am unable to get to it to confirm if it is a hand-made original. It looks to be. I am not sure who the woman is featured in the painting but assume it to be Mary. It is in good condition but needs a bit of a cleaning. the wood frame is intact with some visible blemishes on the back. Nice and sturdy and ready to hang.
