Mostly clean condition, paper gently wrinkled and toned, sizeable tear along left margin of Maine map extending to center- can be repaired as there is no loss of printed surface, right ... moreedge wrinkled and folded under, several other short splits along fold-lines or edges[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting and quite uncommon early 20th century antique pocket map. Any minor defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. Antique 1907 STANDARD ROAD BOOK GOOD ROADS NEW ENGLAND AUTO MAP MA CT NEW YORK
Up for auction is an original antique Standard Road Book"Good Roads" New England map by W.L. Chase and is dated 1907. Might actually date a little earlier. But has that date written on the inside cover. The auto map has detailed maps throughout the New England area. From New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, Cape Cod, Vermont and more. Features details of the larger cities, travel interest points, hotels, where to stay, where to eat, ads for mechanic shops, hotels, restaurants, info about the routes and miles between attractions. Leather bound and measures approx. 9 1/2" by 5" Has about 50 pages and some great early photo advertisements. Overall condition of the map book is nice for its age. As you can see in the photos, the majority of the pages have separated from the binding. No loose pages and ... morethis can easily be repaired. No tears, no water damage, no folds and the cover is nice with some normal wear from age. Rare map and are is a must for any collector. Found safely stored away at a recent 85 year estate of local car collector/Hot Rodder and was safely stored away. Front and back covers of the map have advertising for the Shaffer Oil and Refining Company as well as the Deep Rock Oil Company. This map would make a nice addition to any map or travel memorabilia collection! There is some light to minor creasing and wear throughout from age and use. Some browning is also present from age and a small black stain is in the upper right corner of the back cover. No rips or tears.
