ANTIQUE GLASS DOOR KNOB ASSEMBLY W/ BRASS KEY PLATES, SARGENT LOCK AND ONE KEY
We found this item on a very old door stored in the barn. This estate has yielded many locks and hardware pieces. This is the first one we have found all intact, it was on an old warped solid wooden door that belonged to one of the houses that was at one time on this estate. Here I have a Sargent lock mechanism with two solid glass door knobs. The glass door knobs are free of chips or cracks or any damage. The door this was on has been in the barn for at least 70 years, the house it came from was built around the turn of the century. There are bubbles trapped in the glass door knobs. I had found a can of antique BRASSO brass cleaner. Which I used on all the metal pieces of this assembly, and the brass came out really nice. Being an amateur clock restorer. I took the Sargent lock apart and put oil inside, the ONE key we found with this now ... moreworks great at moving the" deadbolt" back and forth. Nice intact find for a special door in an Antique/ Vintage house. The door knobs measure 2' wide X 1 1/8 deep. Other measurements are in the pictures. Check out my! Antique Eastlake "Arabic" Bronze Interior Door Lockset Set Knob Plates Lock Key
Penn Antique Restoration. 1889 Arabic Bronze Interior Door Set w/Knobs. Plates, Lock, Key. Spectacular set made by“Mallory& Wheeler Company” circa 1889. The set consists of 2 knobs. 2 escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze face plate and 1 working key, and 1 spindle with 2 set screws. All parts except for the key, spindle, screws, and lock body are solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze—not flimsy, stamped/pressed bronze or plated iron. We didn't include a strike plate for the door jamb because we didn't have any ornate strikers that matches up with the lock. However. If you don't mind a plain, bronze/brass strike plate, you could buy one from us for an extra $10- email us after the auction if you are interested. The base of one of the knobs is slightly pushed into the back of the knob. As a result. The knob is 1/8" shorter than the other, and there is a shallow, circular depression(see close up photo of knobs) Once installed, the only way you could see the depression is by pressing your head against the door and looking behind the knob, so it will be pretty hard to notice unless you're looking for it. The lock faceplate has a small dent along its upper. Right edge. All parts have small nicks and scratches here and there, but no breaks, cracks, chips, or gouges. Beautiful vintage piece! Knobs are in excellent vintage condition with only one very tiny(maybe 1mm) chip on one of the points. It has 12 points and has yellowed over the years. But still perfectly clear with hardly any scratches. Comes with locking mechanism and skeleton key that does work, although it could, for sure, use a little oil.
