A nice impression of an interesting antique map. Any minor defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. Sheet measures c. 9" W x 11 1/2" H. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. This is a hand-colored. High quality reproduction of an original Hawaiian map. A label on the backside of the map, plus correspondence from Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd. gives the following information. Map is 9 by 14 inches, and in a 3 inch wide mat in dark green, with some gold accents around the border of the mat. There is a 6 by 6 1/2 inset on bottom left corner labeled"Sketch of Karakakooa Bay" Subject: Chart of the Sandwich Islands Publisher: Alex Hogg Original date of publication; Circa 1786 This desirable map is a recreation of one of the earliest chartings of the Sandwich Islands(Hawaii) as perforned by Captain James Cook RN, and assisted by young William Bligh(later HMS Bounty fame) This fine offset map, with the original hand-cooloring is a special publication recreated by Lahaina Printsellers. Hawaii Map and Idaho Map1960s Cram Atlas
A double-sided page with boldly colored maps of Hawaii on one side and Idaho on the other side. This map was published just a few years after Hawaii became a state and includes special text about the country's 50th state. From an atlas by the renowned George F. Cram Company. Most antique and vintage maps have subdued shades. But these maps have rich colors that will really stand out framed. Because the maps are printed back to back. Only one can be displayed at a time. An original page from a 1960s atlas. Not a reprint or copy. Condition: Very good. The pages was just a bit big for the scanner. So part of the margin does not show in the image. The actual page is complete. Approximate dimensions: Page: 8.75 x 12 inches* Map: 8 x 11 inches. Most items are scanned with a black background. The image shows the actual item and is not a stock ... morephoto. Colors can vary a bit depending on your monitor and settings. PAPER CONDITION. Because most of the prints and advertisements were once in books or magazines. They all have at least a small bit of wear. Please be aware that these National Geographic Maps are anyware from 30 to 80 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. 1986 Rand McNally Map of Honolul& Hawaii(i) Here is a detailed street map that provides a look at Honolul& Hawaii as they were in 1986. It provides a real time capsule showing how much a region can grow and change over the years. Please be aware that the Road Maps I sell are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is mostly not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders and fold lines of the maps may also have tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been ... morestored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Vintage 1936 Pictorial Advertising Poster Map Alaska Steamship Co Art Deco Totem
Here is a beautiful vintage Advertising and Pictorial Map of Alaska and its vast Surrounding Territory- a promotional poster map put-out by the shipping company The Alaska Steamship Company showing the" Alaska Line" This map is dated 1936. It is designed and executed in the distinctive Art Deco style and format that was prevalent in that era. The Great Depression, which was also the Goden Age of the Pictorial Map. Actually, the poster has 3 maps on it: the main map at center showning all of Alaska(no easy feat) The Yukon, the surrounding oceans. And the extreme eastern tip of Russia(the Soviet Union then) a"perimeter" map showing travel distances- the perimeter being North America; and. A 9" x 7" insert map showing Southern Alaska. The entire map is 29 3/4" x 20 1/2" The map was published and printed ... moreby Frank McCaffrey. Seattle. No illustrator is named. The map is very colorful in greens. Reds, blues, black, yellow, tan, and shades of these colors. On the left and right the map is framed by totem pole symbology. I like the way the cartographer lays out the totem poles in the Art Deco style; I believe it's very unique to this map. Within the top and bottom borders wording and lettering predominate. And these are also clearly Art Deco. This map is in excellent well preserved condition. It is printed on very thin paper. Which makes its top shelf condition all the more remarkable. The map is folded. As originally. In half; each have having 8 equal sized panels. Please see the Description Section where I go into a lot of detail about the map's condition. There are several inserts of art work within the map. Such as the Key which is"supported" by a Kodiak Bear and a seal. The cartography on this map/poster/advertisement is excellent. The Dole Company commisioned this beautiful painting so that it could be reproduced and sold as a collectible map, with all kinds of interesting details about each of the islands and their recent history. This one is a little different than the maps that were sold as posters, however, because those came with numbers painted on various parts of the islands corresponding to a key on the right side of the print. This highlighted special areas and activities taking part on the islands(see Wikimedia Commons for copy of this print) This print is of the original map with none of those notations, just the pictures. This was a map that I could stare at for hours as a child and never ... moreget tired of it. From the Whaling Ships and Sperm Whales to the Moray Eels. Flying Fish, Outriggers and Surfers, it's a wonder to behold. I imagine that it has faded somewhat since it's over 60 years old, but the colors are still vibrant. The interior measures 27" x 18" with the original 1-3/4" frame. It was framed at the local Picture Frame place in our town back in 1950, and their sticker is still partially on the back with the alphanumeric Phone Number(HA 9- XXXX) showing. The paper backing has long since dried up and blew away, but the frame and print are in excellent condition. This is a great piece of history which still is something special to look at. This offering features a large George Cram. Double-page, multi-color map of Alaska. The map was extracted from the George Cram Modern Atlas-the World, published in 1911. The last two photos validate the origin of the map and its publishing date. The back of this map includes all the towns and cities in Alaska in 1911. Plus their population and location on the map. The back also includes a partial map of the Hawaiian islands(see photo) plus the towns in Hawaii. This map has a total page size of 15-1/8" wide x 22-1/2" long. And an image size of 13" wide x 20" long. The map's condition is excellent, with only a little yellowing of the white margins, a few small tears in the margins, and a crease mark in the center of the map. When framed, the crease can be smoothed out and the small margin tears will not show. Vintage 1956 Hawaiian Map with Postage w/ Hula Girls Cover 1950's Hawaii
The piece is Copyright 1956(printed on the item) sold as is. its in bad condition. But i figured i'd give ebay a shot. i thought the 1950's Hula Girls were kinda cool if nothing else. its a fold out map and there's really only one of the 3 sections holding it together down the middle when opened up. there is one additional rip. there is ink writing on the back(when folded up w/ the Hula Girls on the cover) with a TO and FROM addresses along with postage stamps. post office stamp dates 1963. there is also ink writing on the map itself seen in the 5th picture(5th when including main photo) where someone had likely circled exactly where they were staying. please dont hesitate to ask any questions!
