Both maps are dated 1916 and titled Reconnaissance Map Of Yukon Koyukuk Region Alaska. These maps were produced by the United States Geological Survey. These maps are both marked Bulletin 631 with one being Plate 1 and the other being Plate II. One map shows the geological deposits. These maps are both fully complete but they are rather fragile and have separation on the fold lines in places. Both maps have some damp staining. Fortymile region Alaska 1898 color map Timber This is an original color map. Not a reproduction, of the Fortymile region in Alaska showing 1898 data and printed around 1900. The map is titled: Land Classification and Density of Standing Timber. Fortymile Quadrangle, Alaska. The map says in the bottom margin: Surveyed in 1898. and was published in 1900 by the U. S. Geological Survey. The scale of the map is 1:250.000, and the contour interval is 200 feet. The map image is about 7 ¾ by 17 ½ inches on a sheet about 15 by 20 ¼ inches. Folded to about 7 by 11 inches. It is a nice looking map of the Fortymile region and covers an area about 16 by 35 miles in size. The Yukon River runs through the north-east corner of the map. Eagle City is on the river. About eight miles from the northern edge of the map. The Fortymile Creek runs ... morethrough the southern third of the map. Bonanza Bar and Deadman Riffle are about nine miles from the southern edge. Some of the place names on the map are: Seventymile. Star City, Eagle City, Bonanza Bar, and Glacier Mountain. It is a topographic map with roads and towns which is overprinted with patterns that show timber resources and land classifications. There are three land classes in the legend: 1. Timbered; 2. Barren; 3. Burned areas restocking. This folded map would flatten easily to make a really great display item. Its reference value is enormous. And shows the conditions as of 100 years ago. It is a rare map, only found now in research libraries. My scanner bed is too small to show the entire map but see the posted images of about 85% of the map. To see the detail level of the map and its condition. The first image shows the top half of the map and the second image shows the bottom half. Also a third image shows the folded map to also show condition. The map is in good condition. Especially for a 100-year-old map. The paper has yellowed and is starting to age and turn brittle. There is some browning in the margins and discolor along some fold lines. There is a small
