It contains detailed maps and photographs of the Alaska Yukon mining gold fields, making it very collectable for those ... moreinterested in historic mining. Although it focuses mainly on Alaska and the Yukon, it also includes sections on the Pacific Northwest including Idaho and Montana. The book is in decent condition for it's age with some fraying around the binding and a few pages pulled from the stitching. One of the maps has a slight tear outside the actual image (see Pic). The spine is still tight. This is an ORIGINAL with the maps (including the 6 foldouts) and book plate are all tipped in, making them easily removable. The reproductions have all the fold out maps placed in a pocket inside the back cover. Thanks for looking!

This auction is for a vintage US Geological Survey Atlas that covers the Indiana Folio. Located in SW Pennsylvania. This area is rich with numerous coal deposits as well as the newly exploited Marcellus Shale Gas boom. The movie"Promised Land" filmed with Matt Damon, was filmed in this area of Pa. The atlas contains several maps of the covered area(with Indiana, Pa being at it's approximate center) and all of the maps being in good condition. Each map is colorized to highlight certain items of note and each map has an annotation regarding the date of the survey, which is 1900 or 1901.the surveyor's name is also included. There are three maps in the set, one for topography, one for economic potential and commerce, and one for areal geology(areal is NOT a misprint.this is how it is listed on the map) The maps are in good condition ... morewith the exception of the areal map, which has a approx 1" tear along the right border(as well as a crease that is part of the torn section) that doesn't extend into the map's details but is limited to the border. There is also a smaller survey of a parcel of land included in this auction, which would have been a private affair and not affiliated with this atlas.it is added as a bonus and to keep them together. The atlas's cover is in poor condition with a few torn or missing areas, as well as beginning to become loose. The interior pages are in good condition for the most part, but there are varying amounts of evident wear along the edges. The original pages came with an off white color and the pages appear to have yellowed over the century. The atlas is in readable condition but has become a bit fragile, causing the binding to become a bit loose and while the pages aren't yet brittle, they are over 100 years old and show signs of their age appropriate to publications along this line.
