Large map of Alaska. Two folds as issued. It was taken from a salvaged antique atlas. It measures 21 1/2 X 13 1/2 inches. Copyright by the Matthew-Northrup Co. Map has copyright of 1898. But has population figures for 1900, so we must assume it was printed after 1900. It shows the gold mining from Canada and Alaska. Paper shows normal aging and is still supple. Not stiff where it would crack at slightest bump. This map would look fantastic framed under glass. A true historical item. Investment quality. This offering features a large George Cram. Double-page, multi-color map of Alaska. The map was extracted from the George Cram Modern Atlas-the World, published in 1911. The last two photos validate the origin of the map and its publishing date. The back of this map includes all the towns and cities in Alaska in 1911. Plus their population and location on the map. The back also includes a partial map of the Hawaiian islands(see photo) plus the towns in Hawaii. This map has a total page size of 15-1/8" wide x 22-1/2" long. And an image size of 13" wide x 20" long. The map's condition is excellent, with only a little yellowing of the white margins, a few small tears in the margins, and a crease mark in the center of the map. When framed, the crease can be smoothed out and the small margin tears will not show. antique vintage Alaska map 1939 Kroll Map Seattle WA AK unique sled road rare ?
I should have done a bit more research. But kind of doubt that there are a bunch of these out there. Please read above and see pictures for more information about condition, there is some wear and discoloring. However, this is really interesting. This is Map of Alaska, Published by Kroll Map Company of Seattle, WA. This was compiled by or maybe from information from US Geological Surveys. This is pretty amazing under the Legend area talks about paths or roads for Wagon or Motor Road, then Sled Road, Horse or Tractor then Trail Pack Horse or Sled Dog, pretty rugged stuff it sounds like. I think this is pre-Alaska statehood show different red lines along with Judicial Divisions. I have trouble finding dates on these, but I did find a spot that said population of 72,524 in 1939 so I think it should be close to that or maybe into the 1940s- I ... morethink. This has some wear, but I think someone will really appreciate and get a kick out of this map. Thanks for looking.
