ANTIQUE RELIQUARY RELIC S.GERVASIO MARTYR 1ST CLASS Please. See the photos, they will say you much more than any description. GERVASIO and PROTASIO. Saints, martyrs in MILAN The oldest news about Sts date back to 386. The year of invention of their bodies in Milan by s. Ambrose. On June 7. 386, in the cemetery of Port Vercellina(the area between the Basilica of St. Ambrose, the Catholic University and the barracks Garibaldi) in the ground in front of the cemetery basilica of SS. Nabor and Felix. S. Ambrose did operate an excavation: there they found the bodies of two martyrs whose memory had gone virtually lost in the Church of Milan. However, the old coinage took place, claimed to have heard, at one time, the names and having read the' epitaph. S. Augustine. Who was in Milan during those years and Paulinus of Milan, secretary and biographer, ... mores. Ambrose said that the saint had a revelation(the two writings are. Respectively, 397-401 and 422) s. Ambrose. However, writing to his sister Marcellina, the chronicle of those events, speaks only of a premonition. On the evening of June 18 the sacred remains were transported to the nearby Basilica Fausta for a night vigil of prayer: the next day. Friday June 19, they were solemnly transferred, with a large, enthusiastic crowd of people, currently known as the Basilica of St. Ambrose. Who had just finished building, to consecrate it with this deposition of relics. S. Ambrose says he has prepared a place under the altar of the new basilica as his tomb discovered the bodies of the two martyrs gave their dexteram portionem. From our knowledge of the sources mentioned above. Seems to be excluded absolutely that the invention of the bodies of the martyrs Gervasio and Protasio was a gimmick to better resist Ambrose, through the enthusiasm of the crowds, the court in general and in particular Giustina, who demanded delivery to the Aryans of a basilica in Milan, also free of charge at all is the view that the two Christian martyrs are a transposition of the Dioscuri. TOP-ANTIQUE-ARTS Item description RARE CATHOLIC RELIC RELIQUARY OF ST. CORNELIUS. POPE, MARTYR Saint Cornelius was elected Pope in 251 during the persecutions of the Emperor Decius. His first challenge. Besides the ever present threat of the Roman authorities, was to bring an end to the schism brought on by his rival, the first anti-pope Novatian. He convened a synod of bishops to confirm him as the rightful successor of Peter. The great controversy that arose as a result of the Decian persecution was whether or not the Church could pardon and receive back into the Church those who had apostacized in the face of martyrdom. Against both the bishops who argued that the Church could not welcome back apostates. And those who argued that they should be welcomed back but did not demand a heavy penance of the penitent, Cornelius decreed that they ... moremust be welcomed back and insisted that they perform an adequate penance. In 253 Cornelius was exiled by the emperor Gallus and died of the hardships he endured in exile. He is venerated as a martyr. This is an extremely rare type of reliquary with a substantial relic of Saint Auralia. Martyr. Saint Quintin Saint quentin martyr relic ST. QUINTIN was a Roman. Descended of a senatorial family. Full of zeal for the kingdom of Jesus Christ, he left his country, and, attended by St. Lucian of Beauvais, made his way to Gaul. Lucian went to Beauvais, and having sown the seeds of divine faith in the hearts of many, received the crown of martyrdom in that city. St. Quintin stayed at Amiens, endeavoring by his prayers and labors to make that country a portion of our Lord's inheritance. He was seized, thrown into prison, and loaded with chains. Finding the holy preacher proof against promises and threats, the magistrate condemned him to the most barbarous tor- ture. The relics of saints from the early centuries of the church are no longer available from Rome. As a result, relics of the early saints and martyrs are difficult to obtain. This relic is a treasure to be honored, and a rare one to find. Given the abuses that occurred with relics during the Middle Ages, the Council of Trent(in the 1500s) decreed that all relics must be accompanied by a document. Only with the document can a relic be used for public veneration. For private veneration, document is not necessary. However. If you are planning on gifting your relic at some time to your church or priest for public veneration, document is necessary. Note that the relic is the small dark area in the round or oval theca. The name of the saint is written above or below this area. Most relic particles are pinhead in size and covered with a resin or glue of some sort. Because the particle is so small. And that particle is covered with glue or resin, it is nearly impossible to see with the naked eye what the relic is without looking under a magnifying glass. Furthermore, you are looking

George. This truly great and glorious Martyr of Christ, was born of a father from Cappadocia and a mother from Palestine. Being a military tribune, or chiliarch(that is, a commander of a thousand troops) he was illustrious in battle and highly honoured for his courage. When he learned that the Emperor Diocletian was preparing a persecution of the Christians, Saint George presented himself publicly before the Emperor and denounced him. When threats and promises could not move him from his steadfast confession, he was put to unheard-of tortures, which he endured with great bravery, overcoming them by his faith and love towards Christ. Beautiful Old Large Relic of Roman Boy Martyr St Crescent age 10 I visited Costa Catholic School. The area grade school which is named after Fr. Joseph Costa, the founder of Corpus Christi Church where I am giving a parish mission. I met with all the students, divided into three groups: First through Third Grades, Fourth and Fifth, and Sixth through Eighth. As I came to the end of my last presentation the local tornado siren went off for a test. I mentioned to the group that the town probably didn't need the siren and then asked them if they knew why. One sixth grade boy answered: Because of St. Crescent. He was right. So what's the story of St. Crescent? Around 1838 the body of a nine or ten year old boy was discovered during excavations of the catacombs of St. Cyriacus in Rome. He suffered martyrdom at that young age around the ... moreend of the third century in the persecution of the emperor Diocletian. One of the fiercest persecutions of the early Church. His name"Cresces" anglicized to"Crescent" was on the marble slab that covered the tomb and next to the body was an urn in which had been placed the blood of the martyr now dried. The body of St. Crescent was removed and the Holy Father gave it to Blessed Antonio Rosmini. Founder of the Institute of Charity or Rosminians. Father Rosmini had the relic taken to Stresa, Italy, where it was placed under the altar of his chapel. In 1887, Rosminian Father Joseph Costa asked his superiors if he could have the relic for the church he had just built in Galesburg, Illinois. His superiors agreed. St. Crescent's body was enclosed in a case of thin glass and Fr. Costa worried that it wouldn't make the long trip to the U.S. without being damaged. He expressed his concern to his superiors. One of whom told him: St. Crescent will take care of himself, and you too! And so it happened. The relic survived intact the railroad trips through Italy, France, England, and from New York to Galesburg, but what was more remarkable was his ocean passage. Fr.

After she told him she was a Christian, he denounced her to authorities who ordered her to be tortured and killed. During her tortures many miracles occured. She was finally beheaded by her own father. Afterwards her father was struck by lightening and killed. Pope and Martyr(655) Original COA ONLY Saint Martin. Who occupied the Roman See from 649 to 655, was a native of Toscany, and became celebrated amid the clergy of Rome for his learning and his sanctity. When he was elected Pope, Rome echoed with cries of joy; the clergy, the Senate and the people gave witness to their great satisfaction, and the emperor approved this happy choice. He did not disappoint the hopes of the Church; piety towards God and charity to the poor were his two rules of life. He repaired churches falling into ruin and restored peace between divergent factions, but his greatest concern was to maintain in the Church the precious heritage of the true faith.
