Antique german wax religious reliquary pilgrimage wachstock work of monks
This is a traditional German wachsstock. They are a wax sculpture made in the late 1800s usually completely of wax. This piece is so unique and detailed. I have seen many of these but never with the Baby Jesus with the glass top. These pieces are monastery works. They would make these and sell them as souveinir pieces from pilgrimages. This is from the Bavarian region I believe. Some are more detailed than others. This one has lots of detail. It is in good shape, I would say excellent but there is one tiny piece of broken filigree on top area, that looks like gold lace. Its so amazing to know that these were made by hand over a hundred years ago by Monks who were passionate about their work. The Jesus is in infant style and holding a tiny crucifix in his hand. And was hand carved behind the walls of a German monastery. You are bidding on an 18 th Century carved wood crucifix from Germany that has been through multiple wars. Antique 1897 St. Johannes Church NY German Communion Wilhelm Jordan Ornate
Glass frame is about 12x17 very heavy the backside is covered in wood. The relic is about 8x13 inches. St. Johannesburg was a Lutheran church in NYC located at 217 east 119th st. Between 2nd& 3rd ave. Built in 1873 it was early masonry church. It also had a German speaking congregation.since been demolished. This is a first communion paper dated 1897. The frame is very old& the back side is frayed. But the relic is in very good condition. Great piece of history. Please note my 100% feedback. If you purchase an item& have an issue. RARE Antique S. Vincent de Paul German Monk Friar's Catholic Rosary Bronze Medal
Bishop Paul Leonard Hagarty was a beloved friend of my mother Bertha. The founder of Church-Woman Antique. He was also the first Bishop of Nassau. And served previously as Vicar Apostolic of the Bahamas Islands. His estate items are on consignment for auction thanks to a friend of St. John's Abbey, where he spent his final years. This piece weighs 18 grams and its diameter is 1.5 inches long; it dates from the 19th century and was dicovered on a fragment of rosary. This medal was part of the estate of Bishop Paul Leonard Hagarty. The medals in our auctions have been inspected by reputable numismatic dealers. Offering for your consideration an unusual folk art ex voto devotional entitled"S Ursula" This antique devotional item dates to the 1800's and is of French or German origin. This is a composite of materials: watercolor on paper. Cloth cutouts and a lithograph. There is a paper lithograph of the face and hands of the saint together with her name. Which has been cut out and mounted on the paper background. Various, rich brocade fabrics have been meticulously cut and placed to form her garments. Delicate watercolor flowering vines frame her portrait. The simple. Outer pine frame measures 8 3/4" by 7" There is a metal loop attached to the back by cloth from which it can be hung for display.
