Antique Primitive Hand Forged Wrought Iron Norfolk Door Thumb Latch Hardware
Antique Primitive Hand Forged Wrought Iron Norfolk Door Thumb Latch Hardware. Mouseover to enlarge Up for auction is an antique Norfolk Door Latch. The back plate measures 8 3/4" high. 1 3/4" wide. The handle is 5" high, 1" diameter at the widest part. The thumb is 1 1/4" wide, 1 1/8" deep, and the thumb lever projects 3 1/4" from the back plate. It will accommodate up to a 2 1/2" door. This early latch is hand forged and is quite pitted but solid. It appears to have a coat of oil on it to help preserve it. There are no visible cracks, breaks or repairs, but the handle appears to be bent slightly to the right of center. There are no interior door parts included. Old wonderful reproduction wrought iron Suffolk thumb latch door handle
A wonderful old reproduction large Suffolk thumb latch with parts. The latch is a reproduction-but vvery well made. by a talented blacksmith. The upper and lower cusps are welded onto the handle-as opposed to all being one piece. The latch is 13 1/4" long. The cusps are great with a triangular shape-with the sides being serrated. The cusps are 4" wide. The thumb piece is original is over 5" long and beautifully made. The thumber is 1 5/7" wide. The latch bar is an old reproduction. The keeper and staple are wrought reproductions. The keeper is a nice legged one as opposed to a simple drive in one. If this piece were period-it would be several hundred $$. A very nice and old hand wrought iron gate or door latch. I purchased this from a home renovation contractor working in the historic district in Charleston. South Carolina. He told me(and I just am relaying what I was told. I do not know if it true facts or fabricated, but I believed him and I personally think it is true information) that he found it when digging a hole. It was completely corroded and covered with rust. He brought it home and soaked it in a solution for 6 months to remove the corrosion. I am not a hardware expert, but it appears to be completely hand wrought and probably dating from the early to mid 19th century. It was probably made by a blacksmith in Charleston. It measures about 14" long and about 1 1/2" wide. The arm measures about 6" long and extends about 5 1/2" high. Condition appears to be good ... moresince it was cleaned. This offering is for a late 18th or very early 19th century wrought iron door handle thumb latch. This great early handle measure app. 7 5/8" in length and 1 1/2" in width. The handle itself has avery nicely formed design with three knobs at the center and the back plate is scalloped at each corner. The overall condition is very nice with a bit of surface rust as expected. The handle has no breaks or repairs and it displays beautifully as seen in the photo's both above and below.

This is a vintage cast wrought iron hardware set by Davies. It is 3 separate pieces with the thumb latch being affixed to the door face plate. The slide arm and holder make up the rest of the set. It is in very good condition with good black paint. There is some other white paint on the inside latch. It is hallmarked Davies surrounded by All Wrought Iron Warranted on the face plate. Which measures about 7.25 by 1.75. The inside hand latch measures about 1.75. The arm is about 7 by 3.

Up for sale is a Antique Hand wrought/ made Iron Gate Latch. It measures 9 1/4" wide by just under 2" across the back section. This latch is in great used condition and is very large and well made. All you need is an old iron eye hook that fits through the square opening and it is ready to use. you will need a mounting bolt and washer to bolt it to the Gate through the back round hole. then an eye hook so when this is attached to the gate you would close the gate over the eye hook that would be mounted next to the gate on the side post. very easy to install. Up for bids is a great lot of old thumb latch type door handles from an old estate. The smaller ones measure about 6 1/2" long. Hammer marks are visible on the back sides of the mounting plates. It is most likely 18th century It has very bold cusps- 2 1/2"2 3/4" wide The thumb piece is a replacement and is 3 1/2" long The latch bar is a period one The keeper and staple are wrought reproductions. Note that the keeper is a legged one as opposed to a simple drive in one- This latch could be used as an interior or exterior latch There is some slight missing of the edges of the upper and lower cusps-I chose not to file those areas off The latch is a wonderful one and shows that it has been around for a long time- Ask questions if interested- Watch for my other early iron items- I have other nice laches-Suffolk. antique door Thumb Latch -lot of 3- early 1800's forged Wrought Iron Norfolk etc
Offered is a lot of 3 early primitive forged Wrought Iron thumb latches from an estate. I think these would all date back into the early 1800's Colonial era. The largest one on the left in the first picture has no thumb piece. The back plate is 8 1/2" tall by 2" wide, it has a nice looking cast handle. The center latch is 6 1/4" tall by 1 5/8" wide, it has old crazed white paint. The right latch is 7" tall by 1 3/8" wide, it also has old crazed paint and a great looking handle that I think is called a Norfolk type. All of these have old weathered surfaces and some surface rust as shown, hopefully someone can put them to good use! Thanks for looking! Vintage antique black wrought iron door handle heart shape latch
Olde timey wrought iron thumb latch door/gate handle for your project. Nice long tongue for intercepting the latch/lock. It's a big one. Over 9" long x 2.25" wide x about 1.25" projection. A full 3.5" grip. Great vintage look, not sure if it's a reproduction or not but FEW could tell either way. A fantastic piece of door hardware!
