Antique rare 12 matching sets Victorian era door knob sets back plates 19th cent
hard to come by authentic matching units for doors. Each one has front plate and on the inside there is a round plate as well as a key hole escutcheon. they came to us by way of an estate that was instrumental in the renovation of an old brownstone there was a note with them stating They came out of a 19th-c brownstone at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. Along with other architectural elements, when the residence was renovated for a new faculty member. I believe they are Arts& Crafts elements. Or Eastlake Victorian-but these are rare as they have the door plates, The father was the person who removed them from the home. they passed to the lady that I selling them for they have not been polished some a bit more tarnish than others. the knobs on the back of the doors so to speak do not fit down inside the round cup plate but the ... morefront ones do fit inside the seat ring. there are some set screws missing from the knobs to tighten them on the spindles and as stated there are a couple of sets missing spindle the back plates are 5 1/2 inch by 2 inch wide. the opening for spindle is 1 3/4 inch above keyhole the keyhole is about 1 inch in from outer edge. the knobs are 21/4 inch across. and about 2 1/4 deep. the escutcheons are 1 3/4 inch by 1 inch. the round back plate is about 2 1/8 inch. there is a number on the back of the door front plates 1241. these are heavy solid brass not a thin stamp pattern brass. please ema l any questions selling all together

Missing only one door handle. In the 18th and 19th centuries. Hinges served two important purposes. First, doors were heavy, so hinges had to be strong enough to support their weight. Strap hinges served this utilitarian purpose very well, but when a door’s design demanded something more, a large rectangular hinge gave metal artisans ample surface for decoration. Strap hinges were frequently attached to doors with thumb latches. The precursors to. The length of a strap hinge helped distribute the door’s weight. While its wrought-iron construction gave it plenty of strength. The decoration on strap hinges was usually minimal—hammer marks in the surface, bevels at the edges, a shape such as a circle at the end. Large rectangular brass. Antique Ornate Brass Door Knob Set w Back Plates/Lock Mechanism- Victorian Era Up for bids is a set of ornate door knobs. Center lock mechanism, and matching back plates. The knobs and back plates appear to be made of brass(a magnet will not stick to them and they have a brass/copper look) The knobs have a 2 1/4 inch diameter and the backplates measure 5 3/8 inches by 1 3/4 inches. There are some screws included however some appear to be missing from the set. The lock mechanism does appear to be working properly however the lock mechanism has not been tested.there is no skeleton key for the lock. The square rod that connects the two knobs does have some light surface rust. Please see photographs to see exactly what you will receive. Thank you for your interest in this item.
