3 - Vintage black Porcelian Door Knobs with Escutcheon and shaft
The escutcheon is black painted iron. When I lived Back East I worked on old houses and saved old hardware. Now I live in Nevada and it is time to get rid of my collections. This week and for the next few weeks I will be listing door hardware. I have not cleaned up these pieces. So they have some surface paint and dirt. They are, however in good working order except where noted. I have photographed the items against the background of pegboard with a one inch spoacing of holes, so you can estimate the dimensions of the items. Here is an antique door lock housing with two glass knobs and shaft. the housing is 3 1/2" L x 3" D x!2" W and the face plate is 5 1/4" L. The Knob spread is 5 1/2" W. There is light chipping of the glass on the knob edges and paint on the face plate. The mechanism works good and the throw works good as well. Light rusting and oxidation on exposed metal surfaces. Here is an antique door lock and knobs assembly with two glass door knobs. Bottom of one knob has paint on the brass bottom of the knob and the outside of the lock is painted also where it would be flush with the door. Glass knobs are in over all good condition with just a few light chips or scratches on the edges of the knobs. Mechanism works smoothly and throw is smooth also. One knob has some paint spots or light chipping on glass surface. The lock housing is 3 1/2" L x 3" D. by 1/2" W. The knob spread is 5 1/2" The face plate is 5 1/4" L. Victorian era white porcelain door knob set Salvaged from an 1800’s to turn of the century. 1900, home. Seems to be a full set– I have not taken anything apart. The interior section of the iron is not round. But square. Great antique white porcelain doorknobs. Size: White porcelain knobs measure approx 2 5/8ths in diameter The length of the piece as currently approx 6 ½ inches– this measures to the beginning of the curve of the knob. Just measuring the iron segment: approx 4 ½ inches. Condition: Knobs still have a shine- you can see parts of the background reflected in the photos.I think very good. But I am uncertain how experts grade. I have merely wiped the porcelain with a soft soapy cloth– very white. But there are a few light brownish stains– The iron bar looks good but does have some tarnish so I cannot see if there are any ... moremaker’s marks. I looked at all antiques knobs being offered on eBay prior to this submission. Yes all 4.000 +) and did not find this pattern design on any currently being offered. I examined the shaft and could not find a manufacturer imprint. The knobs appear to be brass. The set weighs over 11 oz.
