This is a large lot of antique/vintage door knob hardware. There are 5 porcelain door knobs. Three of them measure 2 1/4" across. One is 2" and one is 1 1/2" One of the 2 1/4" knobs has a rusted rod in the back(this is the last picture) There is one glass door knob that measures 2" across. There are 3 glass drawer pulls( one measures 1 1/4" across and 2 are 1" across) There is one brass door knob that measures 1 3/4" across. There are also 7 door knob back plates. The interior section of the iron is not round. But square. Great antique white porcelain doorknobs. Size: White porcelain knobs measure approx 2 5/8ths in diameter The length of the piece as currently approx 6 ½ inches– this measures to the beginning of the curve of the knob. Just measuring the iron segment: approx 4 ½ inches. Condition: Knobs still have a shine- you can see parts of the background reflected in the photos.I think very good. But I am uncertain how experts grade. I have merely wiped the porcelain with a soft soapy cloth– very white. This happens naturally, over time, to some knobs and is not a serious concern. We mentioned it so that you're not surprised and worried when you receive your hardware. We opened. Vinatage Cast Iron Door Knobs with axle and strike plate (Original)
I salvaged these from a very old door that was attached to a house that was built in 1933. I am not an expert. But it appears that these are much older. That is just my opinion and not a fact I am stating. Look at the photos closely for condition and as part of the description. The knobs appear to be hand hammered to give the modeled look. Measurement: knobs are about 2.25 inches wide. One full key plate is about 1.5" x 5" and the other is half way broken off. PA around the turn of the previous century. The set consists of 2 iron knobs, 2 iron escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock cast brass faceplate, 1 iron strike plate for the jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 setscrews. All parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast iron, not stamped/pressed/wrought iron. Originally. The knobs and plates were brass plated, however, much of the brass wore off over the years, leaving the parts with a nice, distressed look! FYI: A Jack and Jill bathroom is a shared bathroom that adjoins two separate bedrooms. The knobs and escutcheons have a simple. Straightforward, Craftsman style design. At the point of salvage, some parts were painted, ... moreand the rest were dirty and rusty(see last photo) Since then, we've removed the paint, and cleaned and polished the parts to the best of our ability. Heavy-duty, antique, door locksets made by"Yale& Towne" of Stamford CT around the turn of the previous century. Each set consists of 2 iron knobs, 2 iron escutcheons, 1 steel mortise lock with bronze faceplate, 1 brass-plated steel strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 1 setscrew and 1 securing pin to connect the knobs. All iron parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast iron, not flimsy wrought/stamped iron. Each set weighs almost 4 lbs! The sets were removed ... morefrom 2 doors that were salvaged from Northeastern Ohio. We found the sets very dirty(see last photo) Since then. We cleaned and polished all parts to the best of our ability. Originally. All parts were painted with an enamel paint to prevent rusting. Since then, some of the paint wore off and rust started to form. If you prefer a distressed look, the rust is just what you're looking for. However, if you prefer a cleaner, uniform look, you could either paint the knobs and escutcheons, or rub the knobs and escutcheons with oil every couple of months. The parts of Set#2 have more rust than those of Set#1. All parts are in great shape with only the light nicks and scratches. That you would expect to find on hardware 100+ years old. There are no breaks. Cracks, chips, dents, or deep scratches. About the locks: The locks of both sets are reversible and could accommodate the swing of any door. If you look at the last 2 photos. You will see that the locks originally had 2 latches. Prior to cleaning, we studied the locks to gain an understanding of their function in order to make a key for each. They have been wire brushed to clean the surface. Knobs are steel. Measuring about 2" in diameter with no obvious dents on the round knob, and about 2" long on the lever knob. Penn Antique Restoration. Rare Antique Industrial Cast Brass& Iron Exterior Lockset. Rare. Heavy-duty, commercial grade lockset made by"Norwalk Lock Co. of Norwalk, CT around the turn of the previous century. It consists of 2 iron knobs(1 egg-shaped& 1 T-shaped) 2 brass escutcheons, 1 brass mortise lock. 1 brass mortise cylinder with a brass anti-theft collar, 1 brass strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 steel spindle(knob connecting rod) with a setscrew. All brass and iron parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast brass and iron, not flimsy, stamped or pressed sheet metal. The parts of this set are of the highest quality. All of the parts of the set combined weigh nearly 5lbs! In the last paragraph. I emphasized, brass mortise lock, because it is extremely rare to find an exterior lock which is made entirely of brass. Normally, the ... morebody of a lock is iron or steel, and the faceplate and latches are brass. This is a rare, and high-end lock. Another interesting aspect of this set is it's knobs. Egg-shaped knobs are uncommon and large T-shaped knobs are extremely rare. Not only are the shapes of the knobs unusual. But they are made of cast iron instead of brass like the rest of the parts. There are no signs either that the iron parts were ever brass-plated. Considering that the lock body is brass, we could rule out that the client wanted a less expensive metal used for the knobs to save money. My guess is that this set was custom made for a client who had a unique taste. Although we show the egg knob on the exterior side of the lockset. It doesn't mean that the T-shaped knob couldn't be on the exterior. You could put whichever of the 2 knobs you like on the outside of your door. Condition: We didn't clean the set. And judging by the very subtle patina on the brass and lack of rust spots on the knobs, you could tell that someone has been periodically cleaning the set. They need to be soaked in naval jelly or rust remover gone separated. One doorknob has chipping towards the bottom on both sides as seen in my photos.
