Each one measures 3 1/8 inches long by 1 13/16ths wide by about 5/8 of an inch deep. They are quite hefty for their size. And in very good original condition. Antique Victorian Eastlake Brass Or Bronze Door Handle Pull
This is an ornate antique Victorian Eastlake brass or bronze door handle or pull. I would date it 1880s or 1890s. Based on its design. It's a very heavy piece. Weighing 4 pounds exactly(1.814 kg) I'm not sure if it's brass or bronze. But based on it's weight, I would tend to think it's bronze. At its longest point. It measures 13 inches(33 cm) It is 3 3/4 inches wide(9.5 cm) When attached to a door with its two smaller pieces, it protrudes out 4 inches(10.2 cm) It's a great looking piece. The detail is classic Eastlake. There's no company name on it. But I'm sure it was made by a skilled craftsman. Except for some tarnishing. There's no damage to it. Antique, exterior door lockset made by the"Reading Hardware Company" of Reading, Pennsylvania during the late 1800's. The set includes 2 bronze knobs, 1 bronze escutcheon, 1 bronze rosette, 1 bronze keyhole cover, 1 bronze thumb turn, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate and 2 working keys, 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 setscrews to connect the knobs. All bronze parts are solid bronze not plated iron. The lock is reversible and could accommodate either a right or left swing door. All bronze parts have lovely. Aesthetic(Eastlake) style designs consisting of flowers, leaves, wagon-wheels, beads, and various geometric shapes. We found the parts with a rich. These solid heavy knobs have a beautiful finish and an exquisite design. Each pair includes the connecting spindle and set screws. The mortise locks are in working order and standard sizes. 1 of them is slightly larger and has a ¼” longer hole backset. The faceplates are solid bronze. Antique Victorian Eastlake Brass Or Bronze Door Handles Knobs
This is an ornate set of antique Victorian Eastlake brass or bronze door handles or knobs. I would date them 1880s or 1890s. Given their Eastlake design. The long side of each measures 4 3/4 inches long(12.1 cm) The short sides(not including the metal rod) each measure 2 3/4 inches long(7 cm) The one short side that has the metal rod measures 5 7/8 inches long(14.9 cm) They have a classic Eastlake style to them. I'm not sure if they're made of brass or bronze. But the quality is excellent. I don't see a company name on them. But whoever made them did very good work. I am including the lock and escutcheon that you see in the photos as this was how I found the set. I think the lock is original. But not the escutcheon. The handles themselves are probably made of celluloid. Which was an old replacement for an ivory look, first manufactured ... morein the 1870s. On both pieces the section containing the celluloid moves around slightly. I'm not sure if this was done originally or just happened over time. But it doesn't affect the usability of the handles at all. One handle is fully attached to the metal rod that goes into the lock. And does not separate. There is green tarnishing in a few areas. And a few spots with dark dirt on them, most notably the ends of the longer sides of the handles. There are some light dings on the celluloid. But nothing major. Antique, interior door lockset made by, Sargent& Co. of New Haven, CT during the late 1800's. The set consists of 2 bronze knobs, 2 bronze escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate and 1 working key, 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 setscrews to connect the knobs. All bronze parts are solid bronze not plated iron. The knobs and plates are embellished with lovely. Aesthetic(Eastlake) style details. The lock is reversible and could accommodate either a right or left swing door. The set was salvaged from Northwestern Tennessee. At the point of salvage. All parts were painted, dirty, and tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we've removed the paint, and cleaned and polished all parts ... moreto the best of our ability. This is for a very nice H&D mfg co.pocket door hardware set with key.Its a beautiful complete set in excellent working condition.Made by hopkins and dickinson it has a patent date of 1873 making it 141 years old and still as solid as it was when it was made.Finely crafted it features a eastlake style floral design and bronze finish.One mortise has a convex faceplate and the other a concave so that fit together perfectly when closed and add extra strength when locked. Although i don't have the original screws from this set I do have bags of screws from this period so if someone really wanted them I could provide them. Each knob is made of solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze-not plated iron. The pair comes with 1 standard 1/4" thick spindle(connecting rod) and 2 setscrews. Each knob has sunken center. And an intricate pattern on both front and back sides. The designs are complemented by a rich, dark patina, which we opted to leave. The knobs had some paint, which we carefully removed without disturbing the patina, however, there is still some green paint on one of the knobs, and a few other small spots of paint that we couldn't remove without compromising the patina. All bronze parts are solid bronze, not plated steel. 4 of the sets have locks with bronze faceplates. And 4 have steel faceplates. 2 of the sets have bronze strike plates and 6 have steel strike plates. See"Group photos" for a visual. The locks are reversible and could accommodate ... morethe swing of any door. The parts have a wonderful. Aesthetic(Eastlake) style design called, Ceylon" At the point of salvage. Some parts were painted, and all parts were dirty and unevenly tarnished(see photos under"Prior to restoration" Since then, we've spent hours removing the paint, and cleaning and polishing the parts to the best of our ability. The knobs and plates have tiny nicks and light scratches. Which are typical for 120-year old hardware. Otherwise. All parts are in great condition with no breaks, cracks, chips, or heavy scratches. The spindle is stuck in one of the knobs. This isn't a flaw. Because that's where the spindle belongs, but we just wanted to make you aware of it. Two of the locks have a broken or missing portion of their bodies. However. The broken or missing portions have no bearing on the lock's functionality, and will be concealed once the locks are installed. All locks were opened. Inspected, and greased to function more smoothly. We also made a key to operate each lock, and could make more for a charge of $8/key-email us after the auction if you are interested.
