The set consists of 2 steel knobs, 2 stamped steel escutcheons, 1 steel mortise lock w/1 working key, 1 steel strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 threaded spindle with 2 setscrews. The knobs and escutcheons have an elegant. Art Deco style design. At the point of salvage. All parts were dirty and unevenly tarnished. This old door knob and lock works. We guess it’s from the 1950’s or 60’s. Not magnetic metal so we assume it's brass. Penn Antique Restoration. Antique Colonial Style Cast Bronze Entry Door Set Lockset. Elegant. Original, antique, exterior door lockset salvaged from Southeastern PA. The set includes 2 bronze knobs, 1 large bronze escutcheon with swinging keyhole cover, 1 bronze rosette, 1 bronze keyhole cover, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate, 1 working key, 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 set screws. A key was made especially for this lock, and we could make more for $6/key—let us know if you are interested. After the auction. Someone removed the buttons from the lock faceplate. The buttons controlled a function. Which disabled/enabled the knobs to turn. With the knobs unable to turn, the upper latch remains extended, in the locked position. In essence, both latches would act as deadbolts and provide extra security. Once the knobs are frozen, and the door is shut, the only way to retract the upper latch is by using the key for the top keyhole. I'm certain that whoever removed the buttons, didn't have the key for the top keyhole and he/she had to force the door open in order to push the button, to enable the knobs to turn. If this were my set, I would remove the buttons as well, and this is not only because I'm a parent of a young child who couldn't help himself from playing with the buttons; but accidents do happen. Bold, entry set salvaged from Northeastern, NJ. The set consists of 2 brass knobs, 1 large brass escutcheon, 1 brass rosette, 1 brass thumbturn, 1 brass anti-theft collar, 1 steel lock with brass faceplate, and 1 split spindle with 2 setscrews. All brass parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast brass not stamped brass or brass-plated iron. Although there are no markings, judging by the design, I am pretty sure this set was made by"Russwin" of New Britain, CT. Unlike most old-fashioned mortise locks. Which have rectangular deadbolts; this lock has cylindrical bolts with odd-shaped heads. When you turn the key, the bolts spin as they spring forth from the lock. The spinning ... morecauses the heads to turn in a corkscrew manner. Because of this feature, this will require a special strike plate with circular holes, not the typical rectangular holes. Unfortunately, we don't have any compatible plates, however, I don't think it would cost too much to have one made-less than $50 for sure. We do not have any mortise cylinders that will fully extend the latch. Our cylinders only push it out halfway. However. You can stop at any locksmith shop to buy one that will work for this lock. The knobs and escutcheons have a lovely design accentuated by a grainy texture on the faces of all the parts except for the lock. At the point of salvage. The set was found with many layers of paint and was heavily tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we've removed the paint, cleaned, and polished the set to the best of our ability. All parts are in great condition with only a few signs of wear like nicks and scratches. Otherwise there are no breaks. Cracks, chips, dents, or heavy scratches. Heavy-duty, commercial grade hardware made by"Russwin" of New Britain, CT around the middle of the previous century. The set consists of 2 aluminum knobs, 2 stamped aluminum escutcheons, 1 steel mortise cylinder with 2 working keys, 1 steel mortise lock with an aluminum faceplate, 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 split spindle with a securing nut and a pin. The whitish lines or bands in the latches of the lock are made of some kind plastic. Since this set was used for commercial installation. It was designed to be strong and secure. The exterior knob is permanently affixed to the spindle with a securing pin. Once the knob is mounted on the escutcheon, the tall collar of the plate bars access to the pin. The only ... moreway you could access the pin is by loosening the screw and removing the knob on the other side of the door. The lock is not reversible. And it could only accommodate a door that swings into a home, towards the right. If your door swings in the other direction, you could still install this set, but you would have to install it upside down, with the knobs on top, and cylinder mortise on the bottom. The mortise lock is locked by pushing the bottom button on the faceplate. And unlocked by either pushing the top button or using a key. Once locked, the door could only be opened by turning the knob on the interior side of the door, or by using the key on the exterior side of the door. This is a very convenient feature for the person inside of the room. No more locking and unlocking to let someone in. Simply turn the knob, open the door, let someone in, close the door and it's already locked. To disable the auto-lock feature, simply push the bottom button. The knobs and plates have a simple. Co. of New Britain, CT around the turn of the previous century. It consists of 2 iron pulls(2 large back plates, 2 thumb latches, 2 handles) 1 iron mortise lock, 1 brass strike plate for the door jamb, and 2 nuts, 2 washers, and 2 bolts to secure the pulls. All parts are solid, heavy, and thick cast iron, not stamped or pressed wrought iron. Originally, the pulls were copper plated, however, most of the plating wore off of one of the pulls and some of the plating wore off of the other, leaving the parts with a nice distressed look. Many times. Sets like this are used only to keep a door closed and to look pretty, so we didn't make a key for the lock. Really nice hard to find Russell Erwin lockset for your consideration. US and Canada Patents March and May 1900. Unusual hard to find set which includes two nicely patterned ornate backplates. Two doorknobs with patterning, mortise lock with matching faceplate as the included latch and deadbolt slide catch marked 1900 and a drive rod with a few set screws. Mortise lock latch springs feel good although should have a good cleaning and lube for optimal operation. Mortise box looks pressed and peened. not cast iron. Marked Russell Erwin mfg co. and some other stuff that is hard to read. Original finish on all the pieces is worn although it looks like a craftsman period style black with copper Jappanned appearance. All brass parts are solid brass, not plated steel. This is a high-quality, commercial-grade lockset. This set is"New Old Stock" which means that it was made a long time ago but was never used. We found it in it's original box(see 3rd photo) There was no mortise cylinder included with the set. This is the round. You could pick one up, brand new, with 2 keys at your local locksmith or hardware store for less than $20. The lock is reversible and could accommodate the swing of either a left or right swing door. Once locked, the door could only be opened by turning the knob on the interior side of the door, or by using the key on the exterior side of the door. We spent much time cleaning and polishing them to restore them to their original splendor. We didn't post them separately on eBay in case the buyer of the door wanted to keep the set with the door. The customer wanted knobs instead, so her loss is now your opportunity! Since we cleaned the set 4 years ago, the parts have developed a very subtle patina, which only adds a degree of warmth to their natural, bronze color. The plates and handle do have scratches and nicks here and there. But considering that they were probably bumped and grabbed hundreds or even thousands of times. They are in great shape. They are free of breaks. Cracks, chips, or gouges. We opened, inspected, and greased the internal parts of the mortise lock to facilitate their movement. The lock and cylinder mortises operate smoothly. If you think that the parts look nice in the photos. Wait until you see them in person! Once you grab hold of the old-world quality, you will be able to truly appreciate the fine craftsmanship and metal purity, which is rare to find now-a-days. All of the parts of the set combined weigh nearly 5lbs! In the last paragraph. I emphasized, brass mortise lock, because it is extremely rare to find an exterior lock which is made entirely of brass. Normally, the ... morebody of a lock is iron or steel, and the faceplate and latches are brass. This is a rare, and high-end lock. Another interesting aspect of this set is it's knobs. Egg-shaped knobs are uncommon and large T-shaped knobs are extremely rare. Not only are the shapes of the knobs unusual. But they are made of cast iron instead of brass like the rest of the parts. There are no signs either that the iron parts were ever brass-plated. Considering that the lock body is brass, we could rule out that the client wanted a less expensive metal used for the knobs to save money. My guess is that this set was custom made for a client who had a unique taste. Although we show the egg knob on the exterior side of the lockset. It doesn't mean that the T-shaped knob couldn't be on the exterior. You could put whichever of the 2 knobs you like on the outside of your door. Condition: We didn't clean the set. And judging by the very subtle patina on the brass and lack of rust spots on the knobs, you could tell that someone has been periodically cleaning the set. The mortise lock is locked by pushing the top button on the faceplate. And unlocked by either pushing the bottom button or using a key. Once locked, the door could only be opened by turning the knob on the interior side of the door, or by using the key on the exterior side of the door. This is a very convenient feature for the person inside of the room. No more locking and unlocking to let someone in. Simply turn the knob, open the door, let someone in, close the door and it's already locked. To disable the auto-lock feature, simply push the bottom button. The lock was opened. Inspected, and we sprayed greased on and around all internal parts to facilitate their movement. The set consists of 2 bronze knobs, 2 bronze escutcheons, 1 iron lock with bronze faceplate and 2 working keys, 1 bronze-plated steel strikeplate for the door jamb, and a spindle with 2 set screws to connect the knobs. All are bronze parts solid bronze, not plated iron, and are fairly heavy—good quality pieces. Antique, pull entry set removed from an old door that we salvaged from an apartment building in Northeastern Pennsylvania(see last photo) The set consists of 2 stamped bronze back plates, 2 cast bronze handles and thumb latches, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate, 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb, and 4 securing nuts an washers. All bronze parts are solid bronze, not plated iron. The mortise lock is fully reversible and could accommodate the swing of any door. There are no cylinder mortises included because we do not have any that are keyed alike. However. You could pick them up at any hardware store or locksmith. We found the parts with a gorgeous patina. Which did not want to disturb. Notice the heavy verdigris on ... moreone of the pulls-truly amazing! However, if you like you hardware bright and shiny, we could clean and polish the set for an additional charge of $40- email us after the auction. Someone drilled an additional hole to insert a screw. In between the upper and lower screw holes. The back plates of the pulls have a small tiny dents and dings that are tough to spot unless you examine them closely. We had an extremely difficult time removing the lock from the door, and accidentally broke the cover plate of the lock body in the process. Fortunately, it was a clean break and we were able to re-secure the 2 broken parts using an industrial strength epoxy. There is a visible scar, but once installed in a door, the scar and lock body would be hidden. Otherwise, all parts are in great shape with no breaks, cracks, chips, or gouges. Each set consists of 2 iron knobs, 2 stamped iron escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock with working key, 1 steel strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 3-section spindle with 1 setscrew and 1 securing pin. Although, most of the brass wore off of the knobs over the years, the rest of the parts retained the majority of their original plating. The amount of plating varies from part to part(see"Group Photos" to compare) All of the locks are reversible and could accommodate either a left or right swing door. Vintage, exterior, lockset made by"Lockwood" of Lockwood, CT sometime around the middle of the previous century. The set consists of 1 brass pull with a thumb latch, 1 brass knob with a 2-piece steel spindle(connecting rod) 1 stamped brass-plated steel rosette, 1 stamped brass thumbturn. 1 brass mortise cylinder plate, 1 steel mortise lock with brass faceplate, 1 brass cylinder mortise w/working key, 1 brass strike plate for the door jamb, and 2 brass washers.
