Antique P. & F. Corbin Bronze Entry Door Lock Set, c.1885
Item description Antique P. F. Corbin bronze entry door lock. The general pattern of this lock was highly successful for Corbin. This set is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition with only the typical signs of wear and use. Although the design on the lock and door plates are often refered to as the"Ceylon" pattern. That name was limited to the knob design seen with this set. This set includes a matching strike plate that has been opened up a bit, but otherwise looks fine. The switch on the face plate of the lock allows the door to be closed in a prelocked position and the included latch bolt key is needed to properly utilize this feature. The set includes one bronze faced reversible entry mortise lock. Two"Ceylon" pattern knobs, one large door plate and round knob escutcheon, matching strike plate, single keyhole ... morecover, and both the latchbolt and deadbolt keys. Also included is a reconditioned knob spindle with new set screws. The set screw holes have been deburred so the screws turn in easily. This is a very nice functioning lock set ready to be installed. The mortise lock's backset to the keyhole is 2 5/8" and the face plate is 6 13/16" tall x 1" wide. The lock box is 4 5/8" tall x 5/8" thick x 3 9/16" deep. The large door plate is 7 1/4" tall x 1 15/16" wide. The knobs are 2 1/4" in diameter. The round escutcheon is 2 1/8" in diameter, the strike plate is 4 1/4" x 15/16" and the keyhole cover is 1 3/4" x 1 1/8" If your going to spend real money on a vintage lock set you should expect no broken or missing pieces. Some of which has worn away creating a dramatic two toned look. The set is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition with only a few small signs of wear and age. This set is typical of the high quality hardware produced by Corbin. The pieces are all heavy castings and the reversible mortise lock is far more sophisticated than a standard box. The set includes one bronze faced reversible mortise lock. Two pattern matched knobs and door plates and an original Corbin deadbolt key. Also included is a reconditioned knob spindle with two new set screws. The set screw holes have been deburred so the screws turn in easily. The pieces of this set have complementary vernacular designs with nice sharp detail. Though Corbin rarely named its patterns. The knobs are listed in the company catalogs as"Gothic" The set has an aged color typical of quality bronze castings and there is minimal discernable wear, except for the strike plate which shows a few small dings. Everything is straight and functional. The reversible mortise lock has strong springs and is in excellent working order. The last photo speaks to the condition of the lock's internal components. The set includes one solid bronze faced mortise lock. Now that I have finished sorting through and emptying out my 100+ year old home I have started to venture out. lol. There are just so many barn. Church and estate sales up this way I just can't resist. So in addition to my usual wares you will also be seeing a bunch of these items. Be sure to add me to your favorites list! This Mortise lockset by Sargent was salvaged from a turn of the century home in the North East. It features two jet black glass or marble door knobs with two back plates. There is wear and surface rust on the finish of the plates is being sold as is. Just as a note it is fully functioning. The lock reads Corbin and it has the number Q18. Corbin is on mortise box and P. F. Corbin 1888 or 1883 is stamped on the face of the lock bolt. HARVARD is stamped on the top edge of the latch face. High quality machining and function. Complete except for key and in perfect working condition. Has two large high quality cylinder locks. Latch face measures 1 5/16" x 8 5/16" Mortise box measures 4 1/16" deep. 5 7/8" tall and 15/16" thick. Uses a 1/4" spindle. Distance from center of cylinder opening to center of spindle opening is 4" High end cylinger locks are 1 11/16" in diameter across face. Cylinder opening is 1 1/2" in diameter. UP FOR AUCTION IS A CORBIN MORTISE DOOR LOCK IT HAS 2 KEY HOLES AND BUTTONS AND DEAD BOLT ON SIDE, The deadbolt is thrown by the lower keyhole from either side of the door. The split spindle allows the doorknobs to rotate independently and the buttons on the lock face provide an additional independent level of security(with or without the deadbolt) Pushing one button in keeps the outside doorknob from turning(the strike will not retract) You can still open the door by the interior doorknob. With the buttons in this position you can enter the house using a skeleton key in the upper keyhole. It retracts the strike and you would simply push the door open. Pushing the other button in allows both doorknobs to rotate so the door can be opened from either side. I do not have keys for the upper or lower keyhole function. Antique Corbin Bronze Mortise Door Lock Set Victorian Ornate 1899 Rare
Offered is this fantastic Victorian. Art Nouveau style complete mortise lock set with matching door knobs and door plates. Patent date is 1899 probably made by Corbin. Signed on inside of door plate and on the front of one door knob. Left unpolished with the original 115 year old patina. I think it's a combination of brass and bronze highly ornate sand cast metals. This set is fully functioning with dead bolt and inside lock on the door knob shaft that turns and locks from the inside. Condition is excellent condition with no damage. The original lock has been re-keyed. The plate measures 12" long by about 3" widest point. Weight is about 7-8 pounds. Good luck!

What a rare find! Magnificent. Antique, door locksets made by"P.F. Corbin Mfg. Co. of New Britain, CT circa 1895. Each set consists of 2 bronze knobs, 2 bronze escutcheons, 1 steel mortise lock with brass faceplate, 1 working key, 1 brass strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 setscrews to connect the knobs. All bronze/brass parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze, not stamped/pressed brass/bronze or plated steel. Originally, all bronze/brass parts were copper ... moreplated, however, some of the plating wore off over the years leaving the parts with a nice, distressed finish. The amount of plating varies from part to part; see photos to compare. Each set has a different lock. Set#1's lock is slightly bigger. The locks of both sets are reversible and could accommodate the swing of any door. The knobs and plates have a superb. Art Nouveau style design, which Corbin called, Florence. We put the sets together using parts that we've collected from various places over the past couple of years. That is why all parts have differing degrees of patina. One knob of Set#1 and 1 plate of Set#2 were cleaned within the past few years. If you prefer the sets to look more uniform. New in Box Pocket door keyed lock with decorative pulls. I purchased two of these from a seller in South Dakota who was clearing out an old building in a small town that once housed a hardware store. I installed one and continue to use it every day. That was over five years ago… A little background on the manufacturer…P& F Corbin. From Wikipedia: In June 1848. Philip Corbin married Francina T. Whiting. The two went on to have three children, two of whom survived. They later adopted a daughter. At the end of 1848 the Corbin brothers sought a partner for their newly formed company. In a small factory built by Corbin’s father-in-law, the brothers, along with Edward Doen, began their first manufacturing firm. The first items produced at the factory were ox balls for the horns of oxen and steer. A year later Henry Whiting bought Doen’s interests ... morein the company and the firm became known as Corbin, Whiting and Company. By 1851 the brothers purchased Whiting’s interest and the firm name was changed for the final time to the P&F Corbin Company. Through the latter half of the nineteenth century the company grew. The firm manufactured builders’ hardware including coat and hat hooks. Sash fasteners, picture nails, locks, knobs, as well as coffin trimmings. Beginning in early 1870 the company switched its focus to decorative hardware. Philip Corbin died after a long illness on November 3. 1910 at the age of 86. At the time of his death, Corbin’s companies employed over 1,800 people and were major manufacturing centers in New Britain, even starting an automobile manufacturing company. The P&F Corbin Company eventually merged with other local manufacturers and became the American Hardware Corporation. Black and Decker purchased the company in 1989. Penn Antique Restoration. Vintage Corbin Deadbolt Entry Door Set w/Knobs. Plates, Lock& Key. Mid Century Modern. Heavy-duty, commercial-grade, door hardware made by"Corbin" of New Britain, CT around the middle of the previous century. The set consists of 2 chrome-plated brass knobs, 2 aluminum escutcheons, 2 brass mortise cylinders(1 without a key and 1 with a key) 2 aluminum anti-theft collars, 1 steel mortise lock with an aluminum faceplate, 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 split spindle with a setscrew and a pin to connect the knobs. All aluminum, brass, and bronze parts, are solid, thick, cast aluminum, brass, and bronze-no flimsy, stamped or pressed metals. We found the original mortise cylinder without a key. So we added a cylinder from our collection, which has a functional key. We are including the original, ... morekeyless cylinder in case you would like to have keys made for it, and use in place of the one that we added. Since we don't have a key for it, we cannot test it, and do not guarantee that it works. The knobs and plates have a simple. Straightforward design. Since this set was used for commercial installation, it was designed to be strong and secure, not fancy and decorative. The set was salvaged from Southwestern Indiana. At the point of salvage. We found the set fairly clean with only a subtle patina. If you prefer your hardware bright and shiny, we could clean the set prior to shipping for an additional $25- email us after the auction if you are interested. There are only small nicks and scratches here and there. However they are common wear for hardware this old. There are no breaks, cracks, chips, dents, or deep scratches. We weren't able to remove the exterior knob. And it's because of a combination of not having the right tool and its screw is rusted and stubborn to turn. Corbin company, and it measures 4 1/8" tall, 3 1/8" wide, and 7/8" thick at the front edge. The set is an old one, but it is in very good working order- both tongue and dead bolt mechanisms work smoothly. The faces are clean and show some wear as one would expect in an older piece of door hardware. The lock comes with a key that works the deadbolt, though I don't know if it is the original key or not. Antique brown swirl door knobs(I believe they were made by Bennington. But not guaranteed) set in an 100% working Corbin door mechanism with lock. The knobs and lock work smooth and are in working order. There are some small white paint specks on the knobs and the same paint(or whatever it is) on parts of the edges of the lock mech. The lock body alone measures 4 1/4" x 3 1/8" and the porcelain knob/rod stickout from the lock body appr. 3 3/4" It's showing signs of wear with surface rust/discoloration/dings/paint spots and could use cleaned up the porcelain knob has no cracks but a few very small dings. I tried to pull the metal rod out from the lock body but it's stuck and won't come out even with it still inserted the knob turns freely both ways and the lock on the side of the box pushes in/out freely please see the pictures for a better view. Outside knob is locked and i did not take it apart to unlock deep patina on outside plate and knob. Set of"4" Antique Corbin door knobs complete with"4" door latches. These are turn of the century solid brass knobs and plates- stamped CORBIN on the inside plate and exterior plate. Comes with the copper protective plate that is stamped with all the patent dates starting with Jan 31 1899 The knobs show very little wear and very minimal nicks and dents. Antique Art Deco Corbin Door Hardware Knobs Escutcheons Lock, Solid Brass S8518
Very nice. The white in the photos on the piece is paint, old paint, and chips off easily. The turn lock mechanism works, i guess it was for an interior door as there is no place for a key, 8 1/2" tall and 2 3/16" wide escutcheons. Knobs turn freely, unless the lock is turned, then it's locked. Marked Corbin on a couple of the parts. totally original. weighs 5 lbs 2.8 oz of solid brass. Model S8515 then under that model number it reads 8x2 1/2. Really a nice piece. I don't know if pieces are missing and what goes in the holes on the piece as I know almost nothing about door knobs. This is a very nice Victorian door set. The knobs and the back plates are brass although it's tuff to see on the back plates. Between the patina and the over paint. I hate when people don't take the time to remove these when they are painting. There are still parts of the back plates that show brass. The back plates are 7-3/4" long and 2-1/8" at the widest. vintage CORBIN door lock assembly with dead bolt & key, reversable
Appears mostly brass and is complete. Can be disassembled and fitted to a door for proper swing on hinges. I have taken this apart. Cleaned, and found all parts in good condition. Depending on which side the lock cylinder is attached. It requires 1 brass screw to lock it in place. The other screw is extra and is recently replaced as a spare(it's a little shorter but can be used) As it is now. It's set for an in-swinging door with hinge point an left. Note the word"top" in picture. Fully functional with 1 key included. Named Corbin. Marked inside.
