Antique Colonial Cast Bronze Exterior Entry Door Set Lockset Knob Plate Lock Key
Penn Antique Restoration. Antique Colonial Style Cast Bronze Entry Door Set Lockset. Elegant. Original, antique, exterior door lockset salvaged from Southeastern PA. The set includes 2 bronze knobs, 1 large bronze escutcheon with swinging keyhole cover, 1 bronze rosette, 1 bronze keyhole cover, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate, 1 working key, 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 set screws. All bronze parts are solid, heavy, cast bronze. At the point of salvage all parts were dirty. Partially painted, and unevenly tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we've cleaned and polished all parts to the best of our ability. You could tell that the hardware came from a well-maintained home because the set is in great shape! The parts have nicks and scratches. Which are typical for hardware this old, but no breaks, ... morecracks, gouges, or chips. The lock was opened. Inspected, and WD-40 was sprayed on and around all parts to facilitate their movement. A key was made especially for this lock, and we could make more for $6/key—let us know if you are interested. After the auction. Someone removed the buttons from the lock faceplate. The buttons controlled a function. Which disabled/enabled the knobs to turn. With the knobs unable to turn, the upper latch remains extended, in the locked position. In essence, both latches would act as deadbolts and provide extra security. Once the knobs are frozen, and the door is shut, the only way to retract the upper latch is by using the key for the top keyhole. I'm certain that whoever removed the buttons, didn't have the key for the top keyhole and he/she had to force the door open in order to push the button, to enable the knobs to turn. If this were my set, I would remove the buttons as well, and this is not only because I'm a parent of a young child who couldn't help himself from playing with the buttons; but accidents do happen. Heavy-duty, antique, door lockset made by"Yale& Towne" of Stamford CT around the turn of the previous century. The set consists of 2 bronze knobs, 2 bronze escutcheons, 1 steel mortise lock with bronze faceplate, and 1 spindle with 1 setscrew and 1 securing pin to connect the knobs. All bronze parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze, not flimsy wrought/stamped bronze or plated iron. One knob, one escutcheon, and the lock faceplate were nickel-played at some point, but some of the plating wore off. We didn't include a strike plate for the door jamb. However, if you need one, we could sell a bronze strike plate lock for $12- email us after the auction if you are interested. The locks is reversible and could accommodate ... morethe swing of any door. The set is called a privacy set. And is typically designed for a bathroom. It could only be locked and unlocked from one side of the door by engaging the thumbturn on the nickel-plated escutcheon. The knobs and escutcheons have a gorgeous. Greek Revival style design with beautiful, bold egg and dart detail. At the point of salvage. The set was found with a lovely, original, patina which augments the beauty of the finely-casted details. We decided not to clean the parts, however if you prefer a more cleaned and polished look, we can clean the set prior to shipping for a charge of $25-email us after the auction if you are interested. The nickel-plated knob has subtle dent on the back. Which is only noticeable if you study the knob. About the lock: The lock and strike plate are reversible and could accommodate the swing of any door. The mortise lock is locked by pushing the bottom button on the faceplate. And unlocked by pushing the top button. Once locked and the door closed, the door could only be opened by turning the key on either side of the door. When you open the door, simply push the top button to enable the knobs. If you wish to keep the door locked while you're at home, you could just leave the key inside of the keyhole. When anyone comes to the door, just turn the key and pull the knob to open the door. The only quirk about the lock is that the latch doesn't fully retract unless you turn the knob in the counter-clockwise direction on the exterior side and clockwise direction on the interior side. All parts except for the key, spindle, screws, and lock body are solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze—not flimsy, stamped/pressed bronze or plated iron. We didn't include a strike plate for the door jamb because we didn't have any ornate strikers that matches up with the lock. However. Item description Antique Nashua passage door knob set c.1885. These are cast bronze with a nice vernacular design. The patterning shows below average wear. Amazing for a pair of 100+ year old knobs. Nashua produced this pattern until the company was bought by Lockwood, who continued to design for some time after. They can be found as part of lock sets by both companies. UP FOR ACTION: Antique"Eulalia" Pattern. Bronze, Matched Door Knob Set. Manufactured by the Reading Hardware Co. Reading, PA, Circa 1895. This rare set is not the traditional round knob. Both door knobs are matched, with aged patina, and have a flat, yet decorative edge to the face. The center is indented with a swirled, leaf-like design, which is raised and can be felt to the touch. The outside perimeter is press out, an 1/8" from the center, having a border of a half braid-like affect. The diameter measures 2 3/16" and the outside edge(where you would grasp the knob to turn it) is 3/4" deep. It has a good solid grip when attempting to turn the knob. One side has the original set screw, one is missing. This"Eulalia" pattern has a great look with smooth wearing from years of service. EXCELLENT mid century modern hardware salvage bronze brass Almet door knob set
These came out of a mid-century 1950s house being remodeled and were original to the house. We have five sets of knobs with plates available and this one set pictured here that has a push button lock(maybe from a bathroom) for sale. I love the subtle. Ultra modern design. They are heavy and well made; the set weighing over a pound. They are bronze or antique brass finished and may be bronze or brass but I am not certain. A few have some paints stains and minor signs of use such as light scratches but to me that is part of their authentic vintage chic. All are in working order as far as we can tell. Absolutely gorgeous Victorian/Art Nouveau era Entry Door Knob and Lock Set. Elegant ornate floral motif with foliage on the knobs. Tiny flowers on the knob rosette, and swags, ribbons and fans on the backplate. Cast bronze backplate is stamped with Sargeant& Co and the numbers 7696 and 7694 and 696 and VR at the bottom. Perhaps an 1894/1896 patent date? Fabulous condition. Only missing a set screw for one of the knobs. The spindle has an interesting swiveling joint in the center.not sure why. Lockset is cast iron with bronze or brass faceplate. Buttons, and latch, and deadbolt. Spindle is cast iron. I think the knobs and rosette are bronze like the backplate. But they may be brass. Antique, interior door locksets made by, Russell& Erwin Mfg. Co. of New Britain, CT during the late 1800's. Each set consists of 2 jet black porcelain knobs w/iron shanks, 2 iron escutcheons with bronze knob collars, 1 iron mortise lock w/1 working key, and 1 spindle with 2 setscrews to connect the knobs. All iron parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast iron, not flimsy stamped(pressed) or wrought iron. Originally, all iron parts were bronze plated, however, some of the ... moreplating wore off over the years leaving the parts with a nice, distressed finish. The amount of plating from part to part, please examine the photos to compare. We didn't include a strike plate for the door jamb because we didn't have any ornate strikers that match up with the lock. However. If you don't mind a plain strike plate, you could buy one from us for an extra $7- email us after the auction if you are interested. The escutcheons and lock faceplate have an exquisite. Art Nouveau style design called, Villa. We found some of the parts painted. And all parts dirty and unevenly tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we removed the paint, and cleaned and polished all parts to the best of our ability. The knobs have a few light scuffs and scratches. Otherwise all parts are in great shape. Free of any breaks. Cracks, chips, dents, or deep scratches. We opened and inspected each lock. Antique Vintage Standing Lion Bronze Door Knob set circa 1927
These knobs and escutcheons were originally from the Stevens hotel in Chicago(they were salvaged when the hotel underwent major renovations in the 80's) The Stevens hotel. At the time when it opened in 1927, was the largest, most grand, hotel in the world! These beautiful door knobs graced the entire hotel and the standing lion can still be found in some of the decorative bronze work in the building, now the Hilton Chicago. Each knob weighs about 8.5 ounces and is about 2 5/8" in diameter and has about a 2 1/2" projection. The matching knob escutcheons and cylinder escutcheon are included. If I can find a spindle(the piece the knobs screw on to) I'll throw one in. These pieces are from an era when things were made with pride to detail and these pieces are in GREAT, though naturally a little worn, condition and are quite ... morerare and becoming rarer as the days go by.
