Up for auction here is a great estate find. A wonderfully ornate flat top door knob. Interesting design.Art Deco/ Arts n Crafts era. Small flowers. Leaf or flags, and two very small iron crosses on either side on the front, in which I wonder if it could have originated in Germany. The knob measures: 2" across. About 1 7/8" back to front, with a about 3" shaft, which is 1/4" in diameter, attached with a single screw. It has a great look with nice patina. I have not attempted to clean it. Offering this Antique 19th Century MCCCo Bronze Entryway Knob. The intricately detailed doorknob is slightly bigger than 2 1/4" in diameter and just less than that in depth. With a nice uniform aged patina, left undisturbed. The knob was designed by Ludwig Kreuzinger for the Metallic Compression Casting Co. Boston, MA. The design was patented on June 7, 1870. The maker markings are incised on the backside of the doorknob. There is very little wear. The Metallic Compression Casting Co. manufactured"house trimmings" Such as knobs, hinges, escutcheons, bell pulls, along with dies for printing wall paper, for bookbinders, and a variety of articles. The inventions of Charles and Michael Smith, introduced with complete success into practical operation Metallic Compression Casting at their foundry in Bomerville, near Boston, revolutionized ... moremetallurgic art. Excellent condition. Super ornate heavy cast brass or bronze doorknob set. It was made by The Russell and Erwin Mfg. Co in New Britain Conn- this is stamped on the inside of the doorknobs. The larger knob is nearly 2 1/2 inches in diameter, the smaller knob nearly 2 1/4 inches in diameter. THe door plate has the swing piece for the keylock and is MINT. The door plate has the escutcheon for the large knob built into it, the smaller knob would mount on the doo backside and has a ferrel plate with it. I’m not exactly sure what they are made of or how old they are. Everything is non-magnetic. The knobs are approximately 2 1/4” in diameter; appear to be hollow but are thick walled and weigh approximately 7 oz each. The thick plates are approximately 7 1/8” long and approximately 2 ¼” wide; also weigh approximately 7 oz each and have numbers that appear to be 1460 14 on the backs of each(could be 1466 14) There are some scratches, some bends, some paint and some tarnish thru out. Overall they are in good solid condition with no breaks or cracks. I’ll leave the restoration and cleaning to the professionals. These came out of a mid-century 1950s house being remodeled and were original to the house. We have five sets of knobs with plates available and this one set pictured here that has a push button lock(maybe from a bathroom) for sale. I love the subtle. Ultra modern design. They are heavy and well made; the set weighing over a pound. They are bronze or antique brass finished and may be bronze or brass but I am not certain. A few have some paints stains and minor signs of use such as light scratches but to me that is part of their authentic vintage chic. All are in working order as far as we can tell. Absolutely gorgeous Victorian/Art Nouveau era Entry Door Knob and Lock Set. Elegant ornate floral motif with foliage on the knobs. Tiny flowers on the knob rosette, and swags, ribbons and fans on the backplate. Cast bronze backplate is stamped with Sargeant& Co and the numbers 7696 and 7694 and 696 and VR at the bottom. Perhaps an 1894/1896 patent date? Fabulous condition. Only missing a set screw for one of the knobs. The spindle has an interesting swiveling joint in the center.not sure why. Lockset is cast iron with bronze or brass faceplate. Buttons, and latch, and deadbolt. Spindle is cast iron. I think the knobs and rosette are bronze like the backplate. But they may be brass. The color matches, nonetheless. Backplate measures 10-1/2" x 2-3/4. Antique PENN Door Lockset w/ Large Knob, Brass or Bronze
Brass or maybe bronze. They do have a real heavy feel, part of it due to size as the escutcheon is 11-3/4 in. long, and the face of the lockset is 1-1/4 by 7-3/4 in. so it's larger than usual. Even though the knobs and escutcheons are different sizes, they are a match and I think it was designed this way so one side has the larger and the other the smaller set. The key is very fancy, signed Francis Keil& Son New York. I don't know if the two thumbscrews are meant to go along but they are included. The lock measures 4-1/8X3-1/2X13/16 and the face plate measures 2X6 the egg shaped knob is about 2-1/2X1-3/4 these show minor signs of previous use.
