When this piece was escavated it was in pieces. At that time they put the dog back together and its seems to be almost complete. We don't see anything missing just a few flakes where the piece was put back together. We didn't want to have it restored because than it would appear like new. We like to see the items just as they were discovered. We aquired this item from the late Michael Robbins. He had his gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico. Ancient Mezcala Jade Stone Statue Artifact Pre-Columbian Rare Style NR
Hi. I have a very nice Mezcala statue for auction. I own a few different Mezcala figures, and have seen hundreds. This one is different. Most of the Mezcala figures are thicker, this is very thin. It is no more than a quarter inch thick. This statuem was made with an arrowhead drill technique. You can visibly see all the spots all around it where it was hand drilled to cut and scuplt it. This drilling is the same way that they drill out the top of a pendant for suspension. This piece has visible weathering and there is no denying it's age. It dates 200 BC- 200AD. I made the stand to make it more presentable, and it's included. It's a shame that it wasn't recovered with the other leg intact. This came from an old collection. Hi. I have an incredible Olmec stone figure for auction. The Olmec figure is laying on his side and he is holding two offering bowls, with his legs behind him. I'm not sure what type of stone this is, but there are parts that shine like mica. I took a picture of the head to show one of the spots. I have seen Olmec figures with offering bowls before, but never two bowls. I feel this is very for a number of reasons: the age 800-200 BC, the type of stone, the two offering bowls, and the fact that it is just plain awesome. Hi. I have a huge Olmec stone bead for auction. This awesome artifact was used as a massive bead, or possibly a staff top, or some other ceremonial purpose. This isa very solid and heavy piece. I has fantastic patina, deposits, and weathering in areas. In al my years of collecting, I have only seen one or two Olmec artifacts remotely like this in all the years that I have been collecting. It has a very striking appearance. This has always been one of my favorites. I have had it sitting on the shelf by my desk for many years. It obviously took them quite a bit of time to make this over 2,000 years ago. There are scores of chisel and gouge marks all over this great artifact, especially on the inside to hollow it out. SUMMARY Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here's a very nice drilled Jadeite Bead of the AZTEC CULTURE(ca; 100 BC-500 AD) found years ago near the ancient Teotihuacan pyramids in Mexico's Central Highlands. It's roughly 1 1/8 in. 2.7cm) in diameter and 1/2 in. 2.1cm) thick. It's made of a hard light green stone believed to be jadeite and is highly polished. One side is curved outward. While the opposite side has been worked flat—presumable so it would lay flat against its owner’s chest when worn as a necklace. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this Aztec jadeite bead is the three(3) small. Pictographic symbols that have been carefully etched into the front side of the bead. Under 80x magnification. I can clearly see how they have been scratched into the surface and are not natural occlusions within the jade. I cannot translate these 3 symbols. But I have taken several macro photos of the symbols and posted them with this description. I can only hazard a guess that they are some type of ritual prayer to keep its original owner safe from evil spirit
