This ancient antiquity is a Chupícuaro head fragment from a Chupícuaro fertility effigy. I bought this in San Miguel. Mexico( located in the ... morefar eastern part of the state of Guanajuato) at an estate sale in the early 1970s when I was living there during the summer. The effigy fragment still has remnants of red paint. The nose and mouth. And left side are broken off. It measures 1 ½ x 1 ¼ x ½ inch depth. Stand not included. There is also glue residue on the back as the fragment as it was once attached to a velvet backed display case. Chupícuaro(a pre-Horizon culture) fertility effigies were placed into the dirt by a Chupícuaro farmer during the planting season to appease the goods to insure a bountiful harvest. Subsequently. After centuries of being plowed or tilled over, the heads usually break off from the bodies. Chupícuaro Excerpt from Wikipedia. The free encyclopedia The Chupícuaro culture was located in the mountains of central Mexico and is named for the area in which the artifacts have been found. It is an important pre-Hispanic archeological site from the late pre-classical or formative period; located west of the Mexican Plateau. On the hills nearby the Lerma River and its tributary Coroneo or Tiger River; which currently under water because of the Solis dam. Just 7 kilometers from Acamaro in the Guanajuato State, near the Michoacán State border in Mexico Little is known about the history of this site. And it was not until 1946, due to a dam construction, that the first explorations were performed, discovering pottery objects and tombs. The place is currently below dam water, although there are surrounding areas still being explored. According to several sources. It is believed that this settlement developed between 500 BC and 300 AD, although some scientists suggest an older development, as far back as 800 BC. Establishing a firm chronology for Chupícuaro has been very problematic. Due to a lack of stratigraphic excavations and reliable C 14 dates.

Very interesting portrait face head warrior mug with wonderful details; the eyes are wide and are under the influence of drugs. In the mouth, he holds a predator bite of Ai Apaec. Ai Apaec, the chief god of the Moche, probably only the best warriors were their chief god set equal. He is wearing a helmet with two war clubs heads and ear pegs made of shells, and a headband with shells. A stress crack on the forehead, and age-related surfaces, as well as small scratches and patina, otherwise fine. So a head belongs in every collection, a wonderful and great piece! pre-Columbian vessel head trophy wTL test Doc! Veracruz Mayan pottery ceramic
You are bidding on a large vessel head of Veracruz Maya culture; you look at the head of it can be seen that there is either a trophy head or around a sacrificial ritual. The facial expression is dead. Which speaks well for the ritual, where victims were skinned and priests covered skin. On the top is a hole, which was used for hanging. The Moche people were primarily a coastal agricultural group with a very strong artistic approach to all aspects of life. They are most famous for their beautiful jewelry, ornamentation and very illustrative pottery. This very unusual piece is thick and heavy hammered copper or copper-alloy in the shape of a large thrusting parrot head with an elongated rear section which has a hole in the end. There is a small green turquoise bead representing an eye on one side only. The condition is mostly good, showing the typical mottled green oxidation that appears on ancient copper from this region, about 38 mm or 1-1/2 ... moreinches at the widest point, 3 mm in thickness, and a long 122 mm or about 4-3/4 inches in length from beak to the rear-end. Pre-Columbian HEAD Vessel Moche PERU Dig Guaranteed Authentic approx. 700 AD
Pre-Columbian HEAD Vessel Moche PERU Dig Guaranteed Authentic approx. 700 AD Recently I was able to obtain several pieces of authentic pre-Columbian pottery and artifacts from ancient civilizations including the Mayan. Incan, Nazca, Aztec, and Central American cultures, all from one individual’s upscale collection. Up for auction is this very cool Vessel. It is a fat rotund HEAD Vessel attributed to the Moche Civilization during the late classic period. 700AD-850AD. It came from a pre WWII dig and has been off the market until now. The piece shows a head at the top in a very strange expression. Almost like he is in pain. He has a very flat head and piercing eyes his mouth is either smirking or showing stress. His ears pop out the sides of his head. There is a tiny hole in the neck and it looks like a tracheotomy to me, maybe that’s why he ... moreis in pain? In his belly is a wide mouth to fill the vessel with water or blood or whatever this was used for. The front is all red and the reverse seems white, but it could just be the dirt that has adhered to the surface causing the whitish look. The piece is bulbous and measures 9” TALL and is about 7” at its widest. It is unusually lightweight and the walls are thin. The vessel is delicate. The bottom is shaped like a football and it is not meant to stand upright. There are surface stains and some very minor surface spotting. This is an extremely old piece and quite interesting and BIG piece. The dating. Attribution of culture and historical references came from meticulous research from the original collector via a very reputable auction house in St Augustine Florida. This piece is guaranteed to be Pre-Columbian Central American. Please email with any questions. I want to keep you as a customer and make sure you are completely happy with any item you purchase from me. My feedback is 100% and I will work to keep it that way. Please take a look at my other antique auctions. I am listing a variety of some very nice and some rare hard to find antiquities and antiques this week.

Pre Columbian Head, Ancient Artifact, Central America Aztec, Mayan Effigy NR
RH1 This is a unique pottery face. I believe it is considered terracotta and is one of several I have. It measures approx. 2 1/4" x 1 3/8" larger than most of the other ones and in good enough condition to sell separately. I can't tell if these were broke off of statues or made this way? I have seen so many of them in my research it is hard to say. I'll let you decide. It still has traces of red paint in the headband area and the facial features look pretty good. It is 100's of years old and guaranteed not a reproduction. I am not sure if it was a from a statue at one time but is in good condition. It is part of a small collection I bought approx. 5 years ago and even then was packed away for approx. 50 years. I don't have any information on the piece other than it is an early piece from the America's. I will ... moreprovide the winner with the original old box and cotton it was stored away in as it formed the impression of the face when removed and also some history and provenance about the original collector. I bought this collection by accident as I was actually called to the house to look at some Art. I noticed a few pieces on display and asked about them when I was told they had several more items packed away. So I am not knowledeable about these items other than I can guarantee they are authentic and some very ancient pieces as you will see by my other listings. I had one piece authenticated from the collection at a Museum of Natural History for a person who was interested in it and it was clearly a very early piece and he bought it(actually I sent about six pieces but kept the rest) My health declined since so I haven't done anything with the rest until now. Please don't ask what else I have or will be listing as I will list everything as my health allows. So far a few good days! Payment must be received within 3 days. eBay rules do not allow mail payment so this is very reasonable. As a buyer myself I pay all my auctions immediately or within 24 hours. The 3 day terms help us

Mezcala Green Stone Head Ancient Artifact Pre-Columbian Mayan NR
Hi I have a Mezcala Guerrero green stone head for auction. This Mezcala head is quite different than most that you see. Because of the hat. Rarely do you ever see a hat on a Mezcala figure, let alone a round one like this. That's one of the reasons I acquired this many years ago from an old collection. The face is stylized in typical Mezcala style. This piece dates to their later period 200-600 AD. The Mezcala artifacts were valued by other cultures as well. Mezcala artifacts have been recovered in Aztec sites, Teotihuacan, and others. The half dollar is for size comparison only and is not included in this auction. I combine shipping. Pre-Columbian Carved Stone Head Artifact ~ From an old collection!
Greeting Fellow Kollectors! Up for sale are from my most recent finds! This beautiful stone hand carved idol came from a wonderful estate of a man who was described by his widow as a'an amateur Indian Jones of sorts' He was an early film documentary film maker who travelled and explored all over the world and hence where his extensive collection of interesting and amazing artifacts came from. This stone head was told to me to be Pre-Columbian in origin as the original owner had a vast collection of such artifacts. Collected in the 50's and 60's. It has a wonderful patina and is carved with by a skilled artisan hand. The item looks very ancient and there are no signs of modern tooling. I was told amazing piece came from Guatemala in origin. This piece looks to be extremely ancient as it has lots of weathering. But still a stunning ... morelittle piece. A friend of mine told me that this was probably used to induce vomit as part of a shamanistic ritual.that's just what I was told. I am not an expert and have no paper work to accompanying any of the pieces from this collection. But based on the story of the former owner's widow, I believe them to be old. Please use your own judgement before bidding: Approx. 3.75" x.5" I have listed many more incredible pieces from this kollection: 40g.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk%601d72f%2B%3E40g-14bb5c205b0-0x105-
