LOT# 15 Detailed Photos. Click to enlarge. Estate Road Show. Item Description. We are pleased to offer this Antique Victorian Eastlake Low Chest/ Dresser. ... moreThe chest offers 3 long locking drawers. Period brass tear drop pulls and pin& cove(knapp joint) ends on the drawers. All the drawers have their locks intact but no key. The front of the chest has beautiful incised carvings on the drawers and wood escutcheons. This chest is good quality, solid, sturdy and would make a great addition to any Victorian Decor. Nut missing for finial on left top drawer pull. The Eastlake furniture style as envisioned by its namesake, Charles Lock Eastlake, came about in response to his dislike of the over-the-top Rococo and Renaissance Revival styles popular during the Victorian era. Although Eastlake furniture is technically considered Victorian, being popular from 1870-1890, it breaks away from the excessive high relief carving, classical elements and numerous curves of other styles produced during this timeframe. In contrast with other Victorian styles of furniture produced in America featuring classical motifs, Eastlake furniture is more geometric and incorporates modest curves. It sometimes includes mild Renaissance and medieval influences that do not overwhelm the design. Ornamental carving seen on these pieces is lightly incised rather than deeply carved.Research Consulted: The Collectors Complete Dictionary of American Antiques by Frances Phipps. RARE Antique DOBBIE MCINNES Nautical Marine Binnacle Compass Azimuth Mirror &Box
Antique Nautical Compass Azimuth Mirror with Box Rare antique(c. 1900's) The Dobbie-McInnes Limited No. 1443 ~ Glasgow" Azimuth Mirror with original wooden(mahogany? box. An azimuth mirror is a nautical scientific instrument that fits onto a compass binnacle so the operator can take bearings. The heads of the screws that the clasps fit over to hold the box lid closed are broken off so you will have to replace them with new screws. The paper label on the inside of the box lid has a small tear. The two glue blocks on the right hand side of the inside of the box are loose and need reglueing back on. The box has a couple of small faint hairline cracks by ... morethe brass nails on the lid. Please note: instrument came from a smoker's estate in case you have allergies to cigarette smoke. 18th Century American Antique Pennsylvania Chippendale Chest of Drawers Dresser
Click for a slideshow of detailed pictures! American Chippendale Period Cherry Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. C. 1770-1800 Item# 120109RPR08 This is a fine Chippendale chest of the period. Crafted in rural Pennsylvania during the years of 1770-1800 of solid Cherry. The top is crafted of two boards, dovetailed along the edges to the side boards, a fine curved molding wrapping around the entire face and sides, projecting over the facade of four graduated drawers flanked by fluted quarter columns capped and footed with turned capitals. The drawers are typical of Pennsylvania, incredibly solid with very thick secondary woods of solid pine, hand chiseled behind the hardware and each with original locks and pulls. The bottoms are hand chamfered, beveled to rabbet into the side boards and nail at the back with iron hand forged nails. The drawers ... moreare divided with cherry dividers, backed by half-depth boards of pine for partial dustboards. Three pine boards are nailed horizontally to the chest, the boards routed to create no gap, beveled along the sides with a chisel and nailed evenly. The chest rests over four scroll cut ogee bracket feet, replaced but almost certainly in near form of the original feet. The proportions and overall flow of the chest are beyond striking. With unusual width. This chest has a sense of presence that is treasured in works of Pennsylvania Chippendale. This is a piece you will certainly treasure in your collection, with a crispness to the fluting and carved molding that sets it apart. Measurements: 43 5/8" wide x 22 1/2" deep x 34" high Condition Report: 1. Early finish. Though not original 2. Left side is crafted of one board. The old shrinking crack is filled 3. Right side is one board but for a 1/2" strip along the back 4. Hardware pins are mismatched. Some certainly replaced, all of the period. We believe the hardware is mostly original, including all locks. Most locks still have original hand forged screws. No key. 5. Top drawer with square replaced patch on drawer botto

Fine American New England 18th Century Federal Chest of Drawers Dresser, Antique
Please note. We have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description: This listing is for a Federal Period Red Painted Maple Chest of Drawers. Probably Connecticut c. 1780-1800. It is a gorgeous work of art with a rather early and wonderful crusty red and black painted surface over the primary woods. The top projects over the case, finishing in soft molded edges over four graduated drawers. Each drawer features fully original hand cast batwing hardware and faux-keyhole escutcheons with numerous layers of original and later paints- one picture below shows a faux-keyhole escutcheon removed from the case, depicting the gritty surface behind it as well as detailed closeups of the back of the hardware. Each drawer is hand dovetailed with broad and rough dovetails, using what appear to ... morebe Eastern Pine for the drawer frame and bottom. The bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the frame, and each drawer bottom is nailed at the back, though many nails are later with only a few originals. Each drawer is divided by cross bars that through-dovetail into and through the side of the case and backed by pine drawer runners nailed inside the case with rose head iron nails(one drawer runner top right replaced) The bottom of the case is uniquely designed, sliding into rabbets in the sides of the case along the entire bottom, locking at the front with an exposed through-dovetail. The top, likewise built to last, is joined at the top with a sliding dovetail joint that allows the top to expand and shrink easily without causing cracking or pressure. The back of the case features two board construction, one board being incredibly wide at 20" the second board being 13" wide with a soft ovular flow between the back feet. Original iron rose heads line the perimeter of the case back, locking the very thick secondary wood to the case permanently with only one replaced nail. The entire chest rests over fully original well formed scroll cut bracket feet, swelling deeply a

Louis XV enjoyed a favourable reputation at the beginning of his reign, however in time, his inability to reform the French monarchy; his lack of morals, and his foreign policy on the European stage lost him the support of his people, and he died as one of the most unpopular kings of France. At first he was popular and especially after a near-death illness in Metz in 1744 when the entire country prayed for his recovery. However, his weak and ineffective rule was a contributing factor to the general decline that culminated in the French Revolution. Popular faith in the monarchy was shaken by the scandals of Louis’s private life, and by the end of his life he had become unpopular. During this period despite the critics, the Marquise de Pompadour had an undeniable influence on the flourishing of French arts during the reign of Louis XV, a reign that is often considered the peak of French architecture and interior design. A patron of the arts, the Marquise amassed a considerable amount of furniture and objets d'art in her various estates.

The top is dovetailed to the case behind the surrounding crown molding. The case sides are crafted of two solid walnut boards. Each with wonderful tight grains. Each of the three smaller drawers slide easily over full length dust boards, protecting the contents beneath them from saw dust and dirt as they move in and out. Some strengthening has been done ... moreto the interior around these drawers, several boards added to strengthen the structure- these additions have not resulted in any alteration of the case and can easily be reversed at a later date if desired. The five stacked graduated drawers are solid poplar with dovetail construction. Each with chamfered bottoms that rabbet into the sides with nailed back ends(some tacks along the back edge modern) Bail pull brass hardware and plain brass keyhole escutcheons line the face of the drawers. The back of the case is constructed of solid hand planed edge boards secured vertically to the case, these nailed in place with hand forged iron nails supplemented by scattered modern nails. The case dovetails into the bottom board, each hidden with the only evidence of hidden dovetails found in the score marks in the corners inside. Each foot is original, with curving and flowing ogee form supported by replaced interior blocking(note the variation in oxidization suggesting much thicker secondary blocking) The back feet supports dovetail to the back feet. The attention to detail in every single aspect of this chest is typical of early American Pennsylvania craftsmanship. A fine selection
American Federal Inlaid Mahogany Bowfront Antique Chest of Drawers c. 1790-1810
American Federal Inlaid Mahogany Bowfront Chest of Drawers Mid-Atlantic States c. 1790-1810 Item# 120101KVP05 This is a very fine American Federal Bowfront Inlaid Mahogany Chest of Drawers. Middle Atlantic States, circa 1790-1810. Crafted of solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, the golden grain flow is magnificent and unbroken. The top has an inlaid rim with stringer inlay outlines, rectangular in shape while gently bowing across the front to conform with the case. The drawers are also bowed, each with fully original oval brasses flanking original keyholes over what we believe to be original locks with ovular stringer inlay outlining each of the graduated four drawers. They are hand dovetailed back and front, with yellow pine secondaries, the bottom board chamfered to rabbet into the drawer frame and secured with glued blocking at regular ... moreintervals along the frame. Each drawer is divided by a solid mahogany bar, backed by pine secondaries that go almost the entire way through the case to form most of a dust board between the drawers. The drawer blades are hidden behind a thin piece of mahogany. Presumably covering the dovetail slot joinery. The back of the case features all original boards, many with original iron rose head nails, but re-secured with nails and screws throughout. An original yellowed hand written label is illegible, but still present on the back of the case. The chest rests over four French feet, each with just slight outward splay and entirely original blocking along the bottom. The feet are cracked along the grain, natural as the grains run perpendicular to the pine blocking, but do not in any way compromise the feet. A fine band of yellow inlay framed by dark stringer inlay runs along the bottom of the case to complete the chest. Original in almost every single aspect of the chest. This work of art is remarkably well preserved. As an investment grade antique in every aspect, this is a very fine acquisition for any serious collector of American Federal furniture. It will certainly be treasured

American Chippendale Cherry Bachelors Antique Chest of Drawers c. 1770-90
American Chippendale Cherry Bachelor's Chest of Drawers. 18th Century Replaced period brasses. Feet mostly original w/ repairs and restorations, c. 1770-90 Item# 120010OEY02 This is a beautiful bachelor's chest with fine proportions. Crafted of solid cherry wood throughout all primary surfaces. The case is crafted entirely using dovetail joinery, noting the sides which lock to the top with a half-blind dovetail, covered with a fine molded rim; the bottom mirrors the top construction, and the drawer divider bars dovetail into the face of the chest. These are of only partial depth, not full dustboards, typical of New England designs as it lessened the overall weight of the chest. The facade is four graduated drawers with bold batwing brasses, each replaced using nearly the same holes, the brasses of the same age as the chest. The drawer ... moreconstruction shows exquisite attention to detail, note the channeling along the top of the drawer framing, a design characteristic of Massachusetts(though also seen throughout other New England states) The sides of the chests wear fine brass carrying handles, each of magnificent proportions with original hand forged screws locking them to the chest. They are likely added to the chest, though since the chest would not have had brasses on the sides of the chest to start with this is difficult to prove. The chest rests on scroll cut bracket feet, mostly original with mostly original blocking, the right side of the feet replaced in exact replication of the rest of the chest. This is a gorgeous piece. A visual delight and crafted with utmost attention to detail. The cherry boards have a wonderful jagged flamed grain with just a tinge of the soft red hue associated with a natural cherry. With a clean overall appeal and a deep patina glowing through the high polish finish, this is a piece that will enhance your living spaces. A timeless design with excellent lines, this is a chest your family will treasure for a lifetime. Measurements: 35 7/8" wide x 20 1/2" deep x 35 1/4
American Chippendale Cherry Antique Chest of Drawers, Pennsylvania c. 1770-80
American Chippendale Cherry Chest of Drawers w/ Fluted Columns over Ogee Bracket Feet Pennsylvania. C. 1770-80 Back of drawer inscribed"Charles Davis" w/ faint illegible inscriptions beneath the top Item# 130206SWE15 An outstanding specimen of Early Pennsylvania craftsmanship. This chest of drawers is one that retains incredible character and history etched in it's worn and abraded surfaces. It's owners have been faithful caretakers of the chest, restoring breaks and losses without in any way altering the chest itself- though the feet have seen great wear, each cracked and broken at one point or another, every aspect of the feet have been preserved in full originality. Typical of much work from rural locations throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. The chest is constructed using large boards of cherry. The top board is molded ... morearound the edges, projecting boldly over the case, though this is softened by the molding that supports it's transition to the case. Large square wooden pegs secure the top to the case, driven through the top to wedge it into the frame in equal increments along the border of the top. A pair of drawers rest over three larger drawers. Each graduated in size and retaining their original brasses(locks absent) They are crafted of pine secondaries hand dovetailed front and back with a deeply chamfered bottom sliding into rabbets on either side and nailed in triplet with hand forged roseheads at the back of each drawer; along the chamfered edges. Triangular blocks are glued for ultimate strength and longevity(a few replaced, a few absent) The third drawer up from the bottom is inscribed on the back"Charles Davis" in script on the back board of the drawer frame. Flanking the drawers are thick fluted quarter round corner columns, raising the crown molding like supporting pillars; they are in perfect proportion to the size of the case, giving a distinct architecture to the form. The backboards are untouched for the most part, entirely original and retaining almost all of

American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers, Pennsylvania c. 1770-80, Antique
American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. Probably Philadelphia or the Delaware River Valley, c. 1770-80 Item# 130108OSP25 This is an excellent example from the Philadelphia or Delaware River Valley region of Pennsylvania. A fine American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers c. the third quarter of the 18th Century 1770-80. Of quite desirable proportions, the chest has a refined presence with well preserved color in the walnut case. The quality of the chest is self evident, the top with a sandwiched molding wrapping around the rim, projecting slightly over the front and deeply over the back- this allowed the chest to rest flush with the wall despite the thick floor molding. Each of the graduated drawers has a molded lip of the solid. The faces solid walnut, the sides and bottom crafted of poplar: these are hand dovetailed, ... morethe bottoms deeply chamfered and slid into rabbets in the sides; the riven bottom boards run perpendicular to the face, nailed at the back with(mostly) original wrought iron rosehead nails with white pine blocks fitted in the chamfered edges along the sides. Original steel locks are retained in the drawers, locks now absent, the brasses replaced with period batwings- the chest had Federal oval brasses placed on it at one point, that owner drilling new holes very close to the original holes; the current brasses are in those same later holes. The back of the chest is joined with two original hand planed planks nailed around the perimeter. The top and bottom join to the chest with hidden dovetails. Evident in the score marks on the inside of the case. The feet are preserved in almost entirely original condition other than age appropriate repairs(noted below) the form of these ogee bracket feet is above reproach, a fine scroll cut swirl that has robust flare to it and terminates in a bladed edge. The blocking of the feet is intricate and likely the reason the feet have survived in such good condition; large triangular blocks support the thick corner block, these carved to fit

c.1780 Walnut ..Georgian Sheraton Antique Dresser Chest of Drawers Commode
This spectacular chest circa 1780 is an amazing Georgian Sheraton Style commode/chest of drawers When I acquired this beautiful diamond in the rough.I knew it was destined for greatness. I restored this piece from top to bottom. This is some of the most beautiful burled walnut I have ever laid eyes upon. This is a world class antique and a gorgeous work of art. You will never tire of looking at this beautiful chest, it is so rich and beautiful. The highly burled walnut veneer over solid walnut drawer fronts is exquisite. The chest is solid walnut. Other than the drawer sides, drawer bottoms and drawer backs which are solid chestnut. The left side panel is the most gorgeous walnut side panel I have ever seen, no question about it. The burling looks like a storm cloud/ball of fire. The cabinet maker was not just a craftsman of the highest order, ... morehe was an artist as well. The side panels are 5/8 inch thick, cut as one plank of solid walnut. The top is solid walnut with a beautiful shaped edge. The drawer bottoms. Sides and backs are all made from solid chestnut(possibly oak)Old growth chestnut is highly sought after by wood lovers, it is virtually extinct, now being reclaimed at very high prices, these chestnut drawers that I hand rubbed a finish on, they are gorgeous. The chestnut drawers bottoms are chamfered by hand planing into the drawer sides. All of the drawers were restored, some drawer runners were replaced/restored. The lower drawers have some side to side movement when they slide due to age related shrinkage.Notice the tiny hand carved dovetail, a fine display of the highest level of craftsmanship. The blackened iron hardware is new.The finish was restored with many. Many coats of hand rubbed polyurethane bringing out the rich and beautiful walnut grains and textures.Rub your hands over the lovely textures and feel the wonderful walnut wood grain and hand rubbed finish. There is a cabinetmakers mark on the back of the top left drawer it is black ink and looks like a Roman letter capitol"E" with a&quo
American Queen Anne Cherry Highboy Antique Chest of Drawers, Connecticut 1740-80
Fine American Queen Anne Cherry Flat-Top Highboy. Connecticut c. 1740-80 Probably the area of Wethersfield. Connecticut; exhibiting Pinwheel& Sunburst drawers, the apron centrally serpentine over pad feet American Black Cherry Primaries; Tulip Poplar secondary woods Item# 130508QJB12 With a molded cornice projecting boldly over the pair of stacked drawers on either side flanking a square drawer with a spinning pinwheel decoration. The case exudes presence while exhibiting wonderful proportions at only 71 1/8" high. The pinwheel decoration is of inordinate fine quality, the tight rays graduating as they swell outward, these given a third dimension with the impression at the end of each ray; the effect creates a tubular shape, almost suggesting that these pipes swell from beneath the surface of the drawer. A pitch substance was rubbed ... moreinto these recesses to create the ebonized effect within the carvings. Each drawer in the top and base are crafted with poplar sides and bottoms, these deeply chamfered along the bottoms and sliding into the rabbeted sides. All drawer retain untouched original hardware. The drawer blades dividing each drawer join the sides of the case in tiny dovetails. Three horizontal backboards retain their untouched rosehead nails, the only change in two hundred and fifty years being the addition of three modern nails to the top edge of the top board for stability. The back of the Pinwheel decorated drawer is inscribed illegibly in chalk. Possibly noting" M_ certify that ma_ rg_ see image below. The base is constructed with pinned tenon-mortise joinery. Securing permanently the sides and front into the square legs; likewise, the single horizontal backboard joins into the legs and is secured with wooden pins from the back. The chest experienced some pest problems at some point early in it's life, with evidence of mouse chewing throughout the drawer bottoms and sides throughout the chest; as a result, pieces of the drawers are replaced where the damage was probably too ex

Antique Chest-on-Chest, Charles II (17' cent.), Oak
This is an original Charles II chest-on-chest of the latter half of the 17th century(1600's) It is in sound operating condition with no alterations. And few repairs, if any. I have used this piece in my home as the frame. Case and dove-tailed drawers function well. The drawers have pillowed fronts with molded panels. And have brass drop pulls and escutcheon plates. The color and finish are very old and have not been molested. The bun feet may have been added later, but can be easily removed as they are each attached with one large hand-made screw. This piece is intact with no broken or missing pieces. However, some minor age deterioration can be seen at the top of a back panel on one of the drawers. The two-board top of the upper cabinet has a slight separation at the joint of the two boards, but does not split from the grain. This is ... morea serviceable, functioning and very attractive piece of furniture. Measurements of the assembled piece are; 49" wide x 25" deep x 44 3/4" high. Lower cabinet is 24 1/2" high with the bun feet. The bun feet are 2 1/2" high. I can arrange for delivery within a 250 mile radius of NYC.NY, or you may make your own arrangements as you prefer.

Antique Dresser in excellent condition with matching headboards and bed frames
This dresser is in almost pristine condition considering its age. Comes with matching head boards with their bed frame boards. Note that due to the age. The frames may be designed for a bed size that is slightly different than the size that they make modern beds. We were able to put in a king size bed using both headboards and just the outer frame boards and it worked perfectly. We do not know the exact age but we were told by the antique store that it is the late 1800's or early 1900's. A sticker inside shows it is Genuine Mahogany by J.L Metz Furniture Co. The drawers glide in and out smoothly, it's really well made.

American Hepplewhite Federal Chest of Drawers, Antique, Mid Atlantic c. 1790
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN HEPPLEWHITE WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS Mid Atlantic States. C. 1790-1810 Item# 1402SQP15PA Crafted of solid walnut primary surfaces. This very attractive chest of drawers boasts clean and undistracted lines. The top is edged with an attractive molding, projecting softly over a facade of four graduated drawers. The walnut planks selected for the front of the chest are a testament to the craftsman's eye- each boldly grained board flows with a soft harmony from one into the next, the vibrance and golden glow of the planks making the case truly stand above it's peers. The drawers are outlined in a ovular stringer inlay and edged with cockbead molding around the large matched dovetails, the bottom board chamfered along ... morethe edges and sliding into grooves in the sides of the drawer. The brasses are period and appear for all intents to be the first brasses on the case- however, our analysis is that the case originally had brass knobs, these leaving just a single hole- these oval brasses were exchanged for the knobs at some point early in the life of the chest. The chest rests over splayed french feet, these replaced with utmost respect to the form of the case- each is crafted in a period manner, the edges hand chiseled and left unfinished and rose head nails utilized for the blocking. Rough hand hewn blocks secure the delicate feet permanently in position. For anyone passionate about American Federal antiques, this is a very attractive acquisition that remains in a simply gorgeous state of preservation, the surface well maintained and with only minor dings and abrasions throughout. Materials: Poplar(drawer bottoms. Sides) Walnut(some drawer backs, all primary surfaces) Chestnut(some drawer backs, backboards) Measurements: 40 1/4” wide x 21” deep x 36 1/4” high Condition Report: Top with a patched knot; drawers with four small patches. Left brass pull on top drawer shifted. Though all brasses
