This listing is for an 18th Century English George II Tall Case Chest of Two over Four Drawers. Featuring original Queen Anne period brass hardware and ... moreall original locks, circa 1740-50. It is a beautiful piece with a simple form so successful commercially that it was copied in bedroom furniture for nearly 300 years, the same form being used in case pieces today. It is of outstanding craftsmanship being formed almost entirely of solid Cuban Mahogany, today a rare and restricted wood of incredible cost, known for it's dark and dense grain formations. A carved crown molding wraps around the front and sides. Repaired in numerous areas along, completing the smooth finished top of the case. The sides of the case are two boards that blind-dovetail at the top and through-dovetail at the bottom. The face of the case features two smaller drawers over four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws. Each drawer is hand dovetailed. Uniquely with graduating dovetails- the top two drawers have two dovetails, the next drawer down has three dovetails, the third down four dovetails, fourth with five dovetails and the bottom drawer with six. The top two drawers are divided by an upright bar with a half-dovetail joint penetrating the crossbar. Each drawer is divided with full dust board divisions, mahogany along the face, pine secondary woods making up the rest of the dust board. The dust board is primarily an English invention, found only infrequently on American case pieces, and conveniently protects clothing and items in drawers below from being dirtied by the drawer action. The back of the case is made up of one original board and the rest replaced. All re-secured with newer nails- a label inside on one of the replaced boards refers to a furniture depository in England. The case rests over four bracket feet, one rebuilt,

English George III Chippendale 18th Century Bachelor Chest of Drawers, 1780-1800
English George III Period Chippendale Bachelor Antique Chest of Drawers Last quarter of the 18th Century. Probably c. 1780-1800 Mahogany veneers& solid woods(primary surfaces) Oak(drawer secondary surfaces) Pine(drawer facings. Case secondaries) Item# 130001LFF27 This is a fine English George III Chippendale Antique Bachelor Chest of Drawers of wonderful proportions. Crafted during the last years of the 18th Century. Probably c. 1780-1800. The deep cognac mahogany color has been well retained, clearly a chest that was protected properly from the damaging rays of the sun, the grains of the wood glowing through years of waxing. It has a well developed patina throughout, and while it does not have it's original surfaces, the finish is early and quite fine. The top projects slightly on all three facing edges. A rounded molding framing ... morethe perimeter and protecting the edges of the veneer. Beneath the top, a thin blade surface slides from the top, a feature identifying this chest as a"Bachelor" chest of drawers- this convenient device was quite popular during the period, allowing the chest of drawers to be used actively as a desk surface for a quick letter or for reading and studying in the evening hours. The blade is crafted of pine secondary woods with glue blocks giving strength to the overall frame, this covered with a brown replaced felt and edged in mahogany veneers with two tiny cast brass original knobs at the facade. Four graduated drawers line the case. These with period circular stamped brass hardware in the original holes(exception with the lowest drawer. Where the hardware is slightly mismatched and holed just beside the original holes) flanking original stamped brass keyhole escutcheons. Fine American Federal Bowfront Chest of Drawers Dresser 18th Century c.1790-1810
This listing is for a Hepplewhite Bowfront Chest of Drawers of the George III/Federal Period(depending on origin) Crafted in New England or England, circa 1790-1810. The top is a fine single solid board of bleached mahogany, bow in form along the front, with fine grains framed in an edge of banded veneer flanked by satinwood stringer inlays. It slides on dovetails along the top of the case, allowing it to shrink and expand without threatening to split the single solid board top; the top is also nailed for stability beneath round wooden pegs, some of the nails broken over time. The face of the case features four graduated bowed drawers. Each hand dovetailed beneath the applied cockbead molding framing each drawer. The drawers are constructed with pine secondary woods, each carefully preserved with some rebuilding to ensure full functionality, ... moreincluding a strip added at the back of each drawer to compensate for shrinking across the grains and replaced runner dovetails. They feature replaced brass knob hardware, each glowing and in flawless condition. An original lock is still secured in all but the top drawer. The face of each drawer is built up using pine secondaries beneath the mahogany veneers for a light and easily flowing drawer. The case sides are dovetailed at the bottom. Forming a perfect square of the solid mahogany sides. The back boards are secured to the back of the case with original rose head nails, coupled with many modern nails to tighten the back to the case. The chest rests over intensely flared french feet on splayed toes, each entirely original with all interior blocking entirely original and only one slight replacement with the rear right foot support. This is an absolutely gorgeous chest of drawers. Using soft bleached mahogany to it's fullest to create a warm and glowing design. With tight and clean lines that are clearly broken with the intense flare of the feet and smooth curving apron, it brings life to any formal setting. Crafted ingeniously and in simply outstanding condition, this c

Click for a slideshow of detailed pictures! American Chippendale Period Cherry Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. C. 1770-1800 Item# 120109RPR08 This is a fine Chippendale chest of the period. Crafted in rural Pennsylvania during the years of 1770-1800 of solid Cherry. The top is crafted of two boards, dovetailed along the edges to the side boards, a fine curved molding wrapping around the entire face and sides, projecting over the facade of four graduated drawers flanked by fluted quarter columns capped and footed with turned capitals. The drawers are typical of Pennsylvania, incredibly solid with very thick secondary woods of solid pine, hand chiseled behind the hardware and each with original locks and pulls. The bottoms are hand chamfered, beveled to rabbet into the side boards and nail at the back with iron hand forged nails. The drawers ... moreare divided with cherry dividers, backed by half-depth boards of pine for partial dustboards. Three pine boards are nailed horizontally to the chest, the boards routed to create no gap, beveled along the sides with a chisel and nailed evenly. The chest rests over four scroll cut ogee bracket feet, replaced but almost certainly in near form of the original feet. The proportions and overall flow of the chest are beyond striking. With unusual width. This chest has a sense of presence that is treasured in works of Pennsylvania Chippendale. This is a piece you will certainly treasure in your collection, with a crispness to the fluting and carved molding that sets it apart. Measurements: 43 5/8" wide x 22 1/2" deep x 34" high Condition Report: 1. Early finish. Though not original 2. Left side is crafted of one board. The old shrinking crack is filled 3. Right side is one board but for a 1/2" strip along the back 4. Hardware pins are mismatched. Some certainly replaced, all of the period. We believe the hardware is mostly original, including all locks. Most locks still have original hand forged screws. No key. 5. Top drawer with square replaced patch on drawer botto

Please note. We have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description: This listing is for a Federal Period Red Painted Maple Chest of Drawers. Probably Connecticut c. 1780-1800. It is a gorgeous work of art with a rather early and wonderful crusty red and black painted surface over the primary woods. The top projects over the case, finishing in soft molded edges over four graduated drawers. Each drawer features fully original hand cast batwing hardware and faux-keyhole escutcheons with numerous layers of original and later paints- one picture below shows a faux-keyhole escutcheon removed from the case, depicting the gritty surface behind it as well as detailed closeups of the back of the hardware. Each drawer is hand dovetailed with broad and rough dovetails, using what appear to ... morebe Eastern Pine for the drawer frame and bottom. The bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the frame, and each drawer bottom is nailed at the back, though many nails are later with only a few originals. Each drawer is divided by cross bars that through-dovetail into and through the side of the case and backed by pine drawer runners nailed inside the case with rose head iron nails(one drawer runner top right replaced) The bottom of the case is uniquely designed, sliding into rabbets in the sides of the case along the entire bottom, locking at the front with an exposed through-dovetail. The top, likewise built to last, is joined at the top with a sliding dovetail joint that allows the top to expand and shrink easily without causing cracking or pressure. The back of the case features two board construction, one board being incredibly wide at 20" the second board being 13" wide with a soft ovular flow between the back feet. Original iron rose heads line the perimeter of the case back, locking the very thick secondary wood to the case permanently with only one replaced nail. The entire chest rests over fully original well formed scroll cut bracket feet, swelling deeply a

Louis XV enjoyed a favourable reputation at the beginning of his reign, however in time, his inability to reform the French monarchy; his lack of morals, and his foreign policy on the European stage lost him the support of his people, and he died as one of the most unpopular kings of France. At first he was popular and especially after a near-death illness in Metz in 1744 when the entire country prayed for his recovery. However, his weak and ineffective rule was a contributing factor to the general decline that culminated in the French Revolution. Popular faith in the monarchy was shaken by the scandals of Louis’s private life, and by the end of his life he had become unpopular. During this period despite the critics, the Marquise de Pompadour had an undeniable influence on the flourishing of French arts during the reign of Louis XV, a reign that is often considered the peak of French architecture and interior design. A patron of the arts, the Marquise amassed a considerable amount of furniture and objets d'art in her various estates.

LATE 18TH CENTURY HEPPLEWHITE CHERRY FOUR DRAWER CHEST WITH THISTLE BRASSES-LOOK
SOUTHERN UNITED STATES 18TH CENTURY HEPPLEWHITE CHEST WITH THISTLE BRASSES With our pleasure we are pleased to offer you this fine 18th century Southern United States(possibly Virginia) four drawer Hepplewhite period dresser with lovely period English Thistle brassess and four graduated drawers. This is a wonderful period chest that has obviously been refinished but that is about the only negative in the equation. The chest is structurally pure. Upon inspecting the secondaries the lack of oxidation on the chamfered drawer panels threw one or two of us. They turn out to be select cuts of cherry which started our theorizing its origin. We quickly knew it had very little in common with our native New England pieces and simply ruled it out right down through Pennsylvania. We are not certain of what Southern state it originates from. We note similar ... moreconstruction techniques indicative of Virginia. It the best call we can make. What we are certain about is that it has cock bead molded drawers. Smartly formed legs, cut out sides, a lovely scrolled front apron detailed by a fruitwood band on inlay. This is a large robust chest that is perfectly functioning and will hold a large amount of clothing. We are almost most certain we are offering you a fine 18th century chest for less than the price of even a new mid grade veneer of particle board dresser. Why not own something that will last a lifetime and actually be an asset as opposed to something that may fall apart in a few years? The choice is yours and the question is self evident. There are some mars on the left side of the case(photos provided) which are truly not a big issue but we are obligated to inform you. This lovely old chest is 42" long, 19 3/4" wide and 41 3/4" tall. Its back and base panels are as attractive to us as the chest itself but that is the opinion our expert eyes and not your own tastes. FINE LATE 18TH CENTURY SHERATON DRESSER IN MAHOGANY WITH GREAT PROVENANCE
SPLENDID LATE 18TH CENTURY SHERATON MAHOGANY& WHITE PINE CHEST VIRGINIA 1790'S With our compliments. Pride and distinction-from the collection of a gentlemen we are delighted to offer you this wonderful late 18th Century Mid Atlantic United States Sheraton period chest in mahogany& white pine. This is absolutely fabulous chest with simply everything you want to see going on in one of these uniquely American treasures. It has correct very high quality(and refreshing not dented or dinged) original period embossed brass pulls, an overhanging formed body, charming carved columns terminating with great late 18th Century definition, a wonderfully shaped back gallery and a completely hand dovetailed one board base plank. Its as right true and correct as one could ask for. We note a mid 19th century replacement of just one section of ... moreone side of the two old growth white pine back chamfered panels with tiny period screws. No doubt some or its original nails wiggled free and it was addressed correctly and that is it! Its spectacular and nothing less. You are seeing it fresh off a truck in unplayed with pure direct sunlight. We have always found this the very best way to give photograph buying its truest representations. We would always caution professional photos with dollie camouflage(sorry trade joke) We have our own Important American Furniture events and they are expensive productions that someone other than us are ultimately paying for. What if we could stop that just for this? Not yet we think and we'd miss all our old friends. They are more than worthy of some nice wine and cheese. The chest was acquired in Virginia 2008 by a New England Gentleman it an important American furniture sale. It was one of his last furniture acquisitions. It bares a century old paper label on a top back panel noted in cursive text"This Antique bureau to be given to my Nephew Lowell W. Kingsbury Harwichport, Mass when I pass on" Annie May Ives" We can not disclose any additional identification information be
18th Century Connecticut Cherry Bureau--Possibly Chippendale
Even if you haven't discovered the origins of this magnificent piece. When you look at it you can tell it is something incredibly special. The wood glows like a warm fire. The brasses are still yellow-even though the piece dates back to the l700s. If it still had its original bracket feet, it would be astronomically expensive, but somewhere along the line someone lopped them off in favor of castors! Not the end of the world since it's quite heavy and the wheels make it easier to move it around. but kind of blasphemous. Still, it is amazingly gorgeous, the kind of piece that stays in your family forever. For shipping. Please contact me and I will get in touch with TSC Moving to try and get you a good rate. 20" deep x 36" tall x 39 1/4" wide.
18TH CENTURY 2 OVER 3 FORMAT QUEEN ANNE PERIOD PINE DRESSER ON BRACKET BASE
MID 18TH CENTURY QUEEN ANNE PERIOD BRACKET BASE TWO OVER THREE DRESSER IN PINE With our compliments we are pleased to offer you this fabulous mid 18th Century Queen Anne period pine chest in a two over three drawer format with period brasses and bracket base. This is a wonderful chest with complete structural correctness other than the expected and within acceptable standards of period furniture maintenance of a back leg bracing and some tiny additions to the very ends of the front bracket pine bracket footings. We speculate that the base of the pine brackets probably took a bit of dry rot over the last 250 + years and it was very carefully restored. Why a scrap board with green paint was used on a back brace? Its a Vermont thing with Yankee thrift! This comes from a Quechee. Vermont estate and the entire period furniture collection was wonderfully ... morepure and well maintained. The chest has a superbly executed top with large finely detailed dovetailed joinery along with the chests body and the single board dovetailed base. It is adorned with lovely Queen Anne period pinned brasses and just a super New England first half of the 18th Century 1740-1750's dresser. All its drawer actions are smooth and this is a fully functioning chest with all original back& chamfered drawer panels. The chest accented with fabulous molding and is 37 1/4" long, 19 1/4" wide and stands 37 1/2" tall. This true& pure Queen Anne period chest is a bit of an oddity and this was no doubt crafted in a hold over technique used in the pre dating William& Mary period New England furniture. Walnut was the most common wood used in Queen Anne period furniture construction in the American Colonies. Pine cases are evidence of the most earliest periods in the Queen Anne furniture and decorative arts movement in America. When we initially encountered this chest we speculated it was a William& Mary chest with an excellent period modification from ball feet to a bracket base. After we got it on its back we discovered that

American Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers, Late 18th Century
WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT! AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS This is an excellent example from the Philadelphia or Delaware River Valley region of Pennsylvania. Made during the third quarter of the 18th Century 1770-80. This chest built from beautiful quality crotch walnut is a fine display of the craftsmanship of its time. Each of the drawers has solid walnut faces. The sides and bottom are crafted of poplar. These drawers are hand dovetailed and their bottoms are deeply chamfered and slid into rabbets in the sides. All original hardware. The blocking of the feet is intricate and likely the reason the feet have survived in such good condition; large triangular blocks support the thick corner block. These carved to fit the bracket feet. A fine specimen in every sense. This is a wonderful find for serious collectors of American Chippendale, ... moreparticularly those that seek out works from Philadelphia. The French feet on this chest give us question on if its a Portsmouth New Hampshire or Boston piece. We have seen these on both disciplines of furniture making. Beautiful 18th Century Cherry Hepplewhite Chest of Drawers
Up for auction this week we have a beautiful American Cherry chest of drawers circa 1790 that was most likely made in the lower New England states. The Cherry wood on this chest has a very nice warm color and patina on an old refinished surface that is in excellent condition. There are a couple old repairs to the drawers and to the bottom front leg section area as to be expected of a piece this age. And the hardware has been replaced through the years. As you can see in the photos all the original glue blocks are still intact on the bottom of the piece. Even with the repairs which are done very well. This is a beautiful example of a late 18th century period Cherry Hepplewhite chest with a beautiful color and overall look. The drawers are nicely dovetailed and are in fine working condition. The backboards are all original as far as I can tell ... morewith possibly the exception of the narrow top board. But I think that one is original also. This piece. With the exception of the above mentioned repairs is 100% original. No replaced parts or pieces to the drawers, back, top, or anywhere else. We have listed this fine piece at an exceptionally low starting price. I have seen similar pieces sell in the $1000-$1200. range. American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers, Pennsylvania Antique, 18th Century
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS Pennsylvania. C. last quarter of the 18th Century; with restorations Item# 1402JYP15PQ A very attractive piece executed in solid walnut. This delightful chest of drawers was crafted during the last years of the 18th Century in Pennsylvania. The bold crown molding surrounding the finished walnut top projects over a tidy facade of graduated drawers: three small over two medium over three large drawers, each hand dovetailed with deeply chamfered bottoms set in flanking grooves and nailed along the back edges. The drawers retain their original brasses, beautiful hand filed pulls with mostly original nuts and posts. The backboards were removed at one point, these appearing to be chestnut ... moreand bevelled along the top edge. The entire case rests over scrolling bracket feet with robust interior blocking; we are not entirely sure if all of the feet are replaced or if portions are original, as there are several parts of the feet that seem very old with a pure oxidization and hand tooling that would suggest originality- note the beautiful hand dovetailing of the front feet, this left exposed along the sides as part of the overall design. With clean and attractive lines. Absolutely gorgeous flowing walnut boards and intricate original brasses, this is a beautiful chest for anyone passionate about rural American forms. Measurements: 39 3/4" wide x 20" deep x 44 3/8" high Condition Report: Refinished- a very attractive chest of drawers with the minor nicks and scratches expected with an antique; most feet and blocking replaced- several facings appear to be original. All hand carved and some with deep oxidization, but we are not certain that any of the feet are original; all feet have cracks, but all feet are very strong and sturdy; molding around base replaced; brasses are original; missing one lock(keyhole filled) one drawer lip repaired, one drawer with two

It belonged to a VERY prominent business woman and antique enthusiast formally from NYC. It's a charming antique table. It has an older finish. I believe the original hardware. Everything else on the piece seems original except the wood blocks underneath. It was at some point over the last 50 or 100 years reinforced with newer ... morewood blocks and glue. Everything else though is good. Original top. Hardware, legs, draws.a Great old antique that are hard to come by. It does have some staining on the top and what looks like maybe a burn. 18TH CENTURY NEW HAMPSHIRE CHIPPENDALE FAN CARVED BANDY LEG MAPLE DRESSER
EXCEPTIONAL MAPLE 18TH CENTURY CHIPPENDALE NEW HAMPSHIRE FAN CARVED BANDY LEG CHEST OF DRAWERS With our compliments we are delighted to offer you this very rare 18th Century maple New Hampshire Chippendale period fan carved bandy footed chest in a 3 over 2 drawer format with a overhung top and dovetailed joined case. Bandy legged Chippendale period chests are very scarce finds. Counting this one we have seen a total of three specimens come out of New England estates during the last year. Each has realized prices much greater than the modest price we are offering this one for.The entire lower case is finished with an original amber to light reddish paint finish. The top appears to have been redone several decades ago. It is a most flattering and professional restoration with attention to detail not obvious to an untrained eye. This very high ... morequality maple with strong Birds Eye and figure grain present. This chest is adorned by wonderful period American Chippendale brasses as opposed to the English brasses which were almost exclusively found on all these period chests. The furniture makers& joiners indigenous to lower Central New Hampshire/Northern Massachusetts were far away from the major trade ports of New Hampshire and the North Shore of Massachusetts. They were compelled to employ the wooden knobs they made for their case pieces. This chest shows very good evidence of these period brasses being installed shortly after its crafting and logically by the family who commissioned it as Chippendale brasses became vogue and more readily obtainable. The chest is further defined by a molded top and drawer facings and fabulous oxidation of the native New England pine secondary woods. It measures 41" long. 21" wide(deep) and it stands 36" tall. This piece has a great mellow old finish and all its pure structural integrity right down to the glue blocks. These comes from our very oldest New England families and only surface every century or so. The only thing we can say about this dresser is it was rebarssed which was a common practice. These are great period English brasses. These dressers were originally made with wooden knobs. Getting a set of brasses like this was extraordinarily difficult for American families in the Post Revolutionary American Colonies. We make no apology or excuses for this. We do not believe it ever had a bottom drawer horn escutcheon. It is a faux wood escutcheon with no lock ever being installed. This chest is 40" long, 18 1/2" wide(deep) and 36 3/4" tall. Antique 18th Century Walnut Queen Anne Highboy Chest of Drawers 1725-1750
Description Fine 18th century highboy with beautiful burl walnut veneer and cabriole legs ending in club feet. Made in New England. Torus molding below the cornice is the front to a hidden drawer. This is an earlier highboy and was made circa in 1725-1750. Provenance: Northeast Auctions. Portsmouth, NH. Dimensions 69 inches high. 22 inches wide, and about 18.5 inches deep. 69x22x38 Condition The condition of the highboy is very good for its age. It is structurally sound with nice color. The are some places where small amounts of the veneer is missing(see photos) But this is normal for a pieces of this age and I don't believe it takes away from its appearance. Also, the molding on the left side of the upper right small drawer is missing. I have just ignored this, but if it bothers you it would be an easy fix. The drawers all open, but ... moresome stick a little at times. Finally, the highboy is married-i.e. the top and bottom were not originally associated. Pick-up and Shipping You can pick up the highboy or arrange to have it shipped to you. We live about 25 minutes northwest of Springfield. MA. We are less than 2 hours from Boston, about 1.5 hours from Albany and about 3 hours from New York City. If you want to have it shipped, we suggest considering At Your Service Transportation, Inc. IMPORTANT 18TH CENTURY QUEEN ANNE MASSACHUSETTS BONNET TOP MAHOGANY HIGHBOY-BEST
IMPORTANT 18TH CENTURY MASSACHUSETTS QUEEN ANNE PERIOD DOUBLE SHELL CARVED MAHOGANY HIGHBOY Bay Colony Antiques takes the the utmost pleasure in offering you this remarkable two piece 18th Century Queen Anne Period Mahogany Highboy with fully formed Bonnet Top. Broken arch pediment, triple finial, double shell carved case on the most gracefully formed legs and pad feet. This is the American masterpiece without exception. Our senior staff are in a heated debate on attributing to Boston or the Massachusetts North Shore(Salem) over the vertical styles on the base case. We solidly attributed this to Massachusetts in the late Queen Anne period at the cusp of the Chippendale furniture movement of the last half of the 18th century. We note remnants of paper label and have not had a chance to black light it yet but a faint signature in a drawer panel. ... moreIt has an entirely dovetailed joined case and one of the best formed full bonnets we have noted in a very long time with carved rosettes adorning the pediment. The finish is absolutely fabulous and original and it is embellished with the finest period brasses. We are certain the top chest matches the base frame and other than some typical maintenance to pine secondary panels(drawers) and possibly one back panel board on the back of the chest. We say"possibly" with great trepidation as we are not certain. If there was a replacement its at least a century old when the rest of the maintenance work was done. Its back panels are fastened with very nice rose head nails and frankly all toll these do not get any finer. We have brought some of the very finest 18th Century Highboys to market in the United States over the last few years and this is something of our ongoing experiment if this sales platform is mature enough for this caliber of material. We are very proud to put our name of this fabulous Highboy. We keep pushing the limits and we are meeting absolutely wonderful people right here. Whether it be Live Auctioneers, Invaluable, First Dibs, etc, etc, why not here?
