Oneida’s “Montclair” Silverplate Oval Meat Platter (Tray) w Tree Well; 19 1/2"
We are selling a large silverplated oval meat platter with a tree juice well that is lovely. This footed platter was made by Oneida in their“ Montclair” pattern. This tray measures about 19½ inches long X about 13 inches wide X about 1½ inches high. It stands on four metal feet and weighs about 3 pounds. 5 ounces. Specifically. It has a heavy metal border of flowers and vases. The body is of smooth silverplate. On the reverse is the mark with the name“ Montclair” on top and“ Oneida” on bottom separated by a crest featuring a knight shield and two lions. This tray is lovely and is well made; we call it good used condition. It has some knife marks on the top from previous feasts. And some of the plating is worn through to the brass base in areas along the edges of the tree branches on the juice well. We have made no attempt to polish ... morethe tray beyond a light wipe with a sunshine cloth. We will leave the decision to clean further to the next owner. 18.5" x 15.5" hard to fine piece in the popular adoration pattern. This piece was obviously used. It is hard to find any tree in well meat platters in pristine condition. And this one does have a lot of scratches either the woman of the house cooked a tough bird or roast or the man of the house was heavy handed. Sigh. And the plate is worn off at 12 o'clock as shown on the photos. I did call brinkmanship here in town and got a ball park est of 455.00 to replate. You could ck with silver plating company's in your area. And also see if any car restoration bumper chrome refurbishing company's do silver plating. However the beauty of not replateing it is you can use this as a serving piece with no fear what so ever. It came to me heavily tarnished. And by rights with more polish and some metative elbow grease you could make ... morethis shine! There are replateing kits but once you do it you have to keep it up. And I'd try it out on some battered flatware first. Personally I would shine it up and use it! Obviously it made a mediocre tough bird look great! The adoration pattern was very popular for post ww 2 brides my own mother has this pattern. And if she see the scratches I'll be scolded( don't ask) on the other hand if she had one she would have never ever used it. If my dad insisted and he scratched it the argument would still be going on! Sooo this way some one else scratched it. No one will Holler at you, you can enjoy using it! Footed, TREE OF LIFE meat serving platter that measures 16" X 11" X 1.625" I am unfamiliar with the hallmark on this piece: there is what looks like a lion& a unicorn on either side of a shield, on the shield are the letters, EPNS, below the shield are the letters L B. The EPNS means electroplated nickel silver, this piece is EPNS on copper. It is in good antique condition with some scratches from use, tarnish and some pitting.
