The inside is shinny but the outside has patina. The wooden handle has lite scratches. There are no nicks. Dings, dents, bends etc. The lid closes nice and tight. Hinge is in great condition. There are no dents. Scratches or wear marks. It is ornately decorated with a striking and heavily embossed foral, leaf, and scroll design. Rogers and was considered their top of the line tray. The silver on this tray in intact. I don't see any evidence of it wearing off. This is very unusual because so many people use the dreaded"Tarn-X" garbage silver cleaner that absolutely ruins silver plate. I read an article that says it actually eats away at sterling silver to such a degree that the value of your sterling goes down simply by using it. Enough of that. The good news is this piece is in excellent condition. I recommend using Tarni-Shield as it does a beautiful job polishing and leaves a protective shield. Allowing the piece to remain shiny longer. We are offering for your consideration one of the most outstanding. Antique trays that James W. Tufts has ever produced. The pictures do not do the etched design justice. A striking 12.50 inch butler’s tray, that will display magnificently where ever you place it and hold the best of goodies you serve. Mr. Tufts has utilized many techniques in designing this stunning. Aesthetic piece. In looking at the inner portion of the tray one is privy to the very detailed scene of two trilling birds, possibly Blue Jays, sitting along leaf laden branches. The design is set against a hand chased background. The detail in the birds and foliage is amazing and the chased background gives the scene a deeper dimensional look. A spread out fan has been placed along the middle line in this picture and adds a decorative elegance to the piece. The portion below ... morethe birds has been etched with a curly cue of lines which adds a handsome visual appeal to the Butler’s Tray. A simple but decorative gadroon pattern has been placed around the top outer edge. The look is stunning and sophisticated. The piece bears the hallmark of James W. Tufts. With the words, James W. Tufts, Quadruple Plate, Warranted and Boston. There is also a star with a T inside and the pattern numbers. 2236” James W. Tufts’ business originated in Charlestown. Massachusetts with the making of ornate. Soda fountain apparatus. In 1875, he branched out and manufactured a line of table wear consisting of trays, cups and saucers, pitchers, dishes, bases and other table items. His company flourished until 1915 though Mr. Tuft died in 1902. James W. Tufts is remembered for producing some of the most unique and beautiful silver plate of the American Victorian Period. A beautiful long, rectangular tray with beautiful ornate and detailed cast of grape and vine leaf decoration to the stepped border. The tray itself is decorated with a very nice ornate and detailed, chased, scrolling flower and fern pattern. This Butler's Pan is Silver Plated and marked PM Italy. It also has a Crest on top of the Lid. The Pan is 1 1/2" high and 6" in diameter. With a wooden handle. Some surface scratches, but no dents or nicks. It has a nice patina, which many collector's love. An excellent find for anyone's collection.

Figuring a deer and probably a unicorn or a horse around a shield. Thumb press in the shape of an anthemion. Anthemion decoration on the legs. Marked on bottom: F.B. VINTAGE! PLATED SHERIDAN SILVER CO. HEATED ROUND BUTLER'S FOOTED TRAY w/HANDLES. The outer fluted trim is very elegant and the two handles and three feet are very ornate. The platter itself has an attractive. Gracefully chased design. This is an excellent tray both for display and it’s high degree of usability. A very interesting detail. And indication of quality, is that the handles are decoratively carved on both sides as would be expected but the inside of the three scrolled feet are also finished on the insides that don’t really show. It does say Sheridan Silver Co. Inc. on the bottom. However, it does not say that this is silver plate specifically, but it clearly is by the tarnish. I have a feeling that under the bolted down heating element it does have a stamp. There is a faint blush of a coppery tone in some carved inner grooved ... moreareas and underneath, but that may just be how whatever metal underneath has aged. 45+ years old. 14& 5/8" diameter(18& 5/8” long where the handles span) 2” high(3” including upward tilt of handles) Chased detail surround the blank cartouche. Stands on 3 scroll-curved feet. Weighs approximately 4.25 pounds. On the bottom of the tray: A small white label reads INSP. 17. On the round electrical unit it is engraved: Do Not Immerse In Water. NO. 1176E, 120 Volts 70 Watts, UL, AC Only 60 Cycle, Sheridan Silver Co. Inc. Comes with a white plug with a small blue paper cord-label: UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES INC. LISTED Cord set BG-624, E- 24336. NOTE: I have plugged this in and it does heat up but gets VERY. VERY hot right in the center where the blank cartouche design is. I’m not sure what that means but please take note; perhaps it needs to be checked re the power cord. Of course you have the option of just using it as a tray without the heat. No dings or scratches. Age-appropriate fine-line signs of polishing. There is some tarnish(it appears much less so in the pictures because of the glare from the lighting) but it is my policy not to polish silver or silver plate that
