vintage round silverplate gallery serving/butlers tray, footed, with hallmarks
This 10.5" round tray has silver filigree sides with either a laminated wood bottom or a faux wood bottom. And three round feet. The sides are 3/4" high. There are three hallmarks on the bottom edge which I tried to photograph but I am afraid I didn't have much luck. The hallmarks look like a lion, a"C" and a rooster but I don't know hallmarks well and might be mistaken. This silverplated tray is otherwise unmarked and in very good condition. I am selling this for an 88 year old friend who is trying to clean out some things. She told me her aunt gave her the tray when she was first married as she and her husband entertained a lot and her aunt didn't want her husband serving drinks to his guests with his hands- he had to have a tray to serve them on! A very ornately, embossed, outer edge designed with seashells, leaves and scroll work extends onto the large open handles that provide for ease in carrying and lifting. A beaded design frames the pattern. A lovely, floral, leaf and scroll design has been deeply etched onto the trays surface and is set against a chased and basket weaved background. Hard to do this one justice in pictures it is a real beauty. It is 26" 66cm) long and 17" 44cm) wide and very heavy weighing a full 2.5 Kg before packing. No sign of wear to the silver plate anywhere and beautiful etched designs with what looks like a slightly oriental look to them, embossed acanthus leaves all around the edges and very ornate handles.
