An oak wood base and a handle, which is a leather and oak wood piece. The metal gong piece is brass but the base and the holders I am not sure of the metal. Lovely Victorian mid-late 19 th century snuff. Pill, patch or trinket bo x. Boldly striated beve led-edged slabs of banded agate are bezel set and housed in a decorative brass or gilt metal pierced frame with a delicate floral design. The agate panels are nearly translucent and have a smooth and tactile finish that only comes from age and handling over long periods of time. There are no chips or cracks and no nibbling at the edges. The hinge is of the 3 tube variety and the box opens and shuts securely. The agate slabs are firmly held but there is the slightest of clacking sound s when the piece is handled. Since the prongs and frame are completely intact. The piece was probably made this way. The tartan piece is in absolute pristine condition. There is an oval photo of a Church or Monument set into the tartan pattern. There are Mother of Pearl discs on each corner- which are held in place by brass nails. Sorry- but I do not know the name of the Church or Monument shown. There is no Clan indicated on the Tartan.
