Here is a lovely set of dried flowers under convex glass. Had them appraised recently. Appraiser stated they were from the 1930's. And are worth $55.00 to $65.00. Hand Made by Peter Watson's' Studio. They are 5 inches in diameter and the domed glass is about 1 inch high. Very nice condition with only 1 flower broken loose. And a few small flecks also loose. Glass is excellent. They have a round metal hanger on the back. The first and third picture shows the back ground close to what is truly is. It is more cream than white. These were among my Mothers' things. Very old Silhouette of Daniel Webster. Wood framed and glass covered. It looks like real hand hollow cut silhouette and not reproduction. Very old piece and paper has some water damage on it. Can be extremely rare original silhouette, belonging to Daniel Webster's sister. I have old letter with some story about this silhouette. It is hard to read this handwriting so I took a picture of it for your review. I can be mistaken about details because not expert, but this silhouette is genuine and came from my ansestors and was very valuable for them. Antique Silhouette from Europe with Names and Dates Inscribed
For sale is a silhouette I purchased in Paris in the 1960's. It is unsigned as to artist. But has several inscriptions within as to the identy of the person shown. I do not know what type of silhouette this is, but the individual has a waist-ban consisting of a small white cross surrounded by a red background. This is obviously a painted section, which suggests to me that the individual is of Swiss origin. The remaining sections are black and white with some fine lines in the white areas to accent the white, as was often done. The two notes found within the back of the silhouette have additional infromation, but I cannot make the two coincide. One suggests that the individual is his brother Jerome Herzog, who died in America in 1854. The other suggests the individual is Johannes Schiess, born in 1832 and died in 1860. Obviously there ... moreis a contradiction, assuming my translations are correct. I have not tried to remove the silhouette from the glass to identify more precisely what type of silhouette it is, but will leave that delicate operation to the buyer, if they so wish. However, when the glass is moved slightly, the silhouette stays in place, indicating that it is not a"painted on glass" silhouette. The frame appears to be of the type used in the 1800's, and I believe it to be original to the silhouette, but cannot prove it. The hanger is a very small wire drilled into the top, which serves additionally to hold the silhouette in place. Their are no nails or other devices to hold the silhouette in place, except the two backing pieces shown in the photos, which fit tightly into the frame. This piece has hung on my wall for the past 50 years. It is small(4" tall, 3" wide) and exceeding well done.
